Excellent!

So, the module itself is working, it could be a windows issue :-/

(sorry, I'm out of ideas what else could help to get the driver running)

Indeed TK, that's just enough to keep me going (on this module) instead of just thinking it's a wash. I'm feeling pretty low in the electronics department these days. And to think that I have to invent an art project using them within a few weeks (no midibox or synthesizers allowed!)

i feel really bad now i wouldnt have sent them to you if i thought it was going to put you off electronics (maybe i should have just killed them)

ive got no idea what sort of art project your going to come up with just using usb modules as well take photos of them posssibly or paint them i dont know

No don't worry, I'm more frustrated with the burner and trying to get the voltages right. This is okay, it appears as if it might work eventually. Though I have a strange tendency to have horrible windows problems. I tried to make and Atmel burner and it does absolutely nothing, probably again because of my PC.

Okay. So I got Windows 2000 in hopes of having it work there. I direct it to the correct folder and ... it fails! It finds the driver and says it's a better one than I have now, but then it fails once I click "next" stating:

"a function driver was not specified for this device instance"

???

Okay, so now I've wasted about 4-5 hours with a Windows 98 installation that didn't work. It appears that OSX sees it as the right vendorID and productID but any windows version sees it as 0000 0000. So I added a line in the .inf file that says anything with 0000 0000 should be loaded with the driver. It "worked" in that the driver is actually loaded onto it, but the control panel sees nothing at all.

Here's the best question ever:

CAN I JUST BURN MIOS (NOT JUST THE BOOTLOADER) ONTO A PIC AND THEN UPLOAD THE SOFTWARE ONTO THE USB MODULE SOMEHOW THROUGH THE CORE?

I don't know if burning MIOS actually works, so let me know.Also you only inferred a little that the USB firmware could be programmed in such a way.

Please let me know.

Apparently it uses Linux which could be a bit annoying but I suppose it should run using a Knoppix for example if you don't have a Linux installed.

Otherwise most probably, I should be able to burn one for you by hacking a bit my Miss Parker. Where are you located?

Maybe something stupid but have you tried connecting it directly to the PC or through a USB hub? I have a USB soundcard at home that does not work through a hub and absolutely requires a direct connection to the PC. I doubt that the EZ-USB has such requirements but ok...

A last one, are you trying the EZ-USB without an eeprom connected to make 100% sure that a firmware does not get loaded by accident? If I remember correctly, it's enough that the first value of the eeprom is the magic number for the rest to be considered as valid firmware. The fact that the device is seen correctly in OSX tends to prove that it's not the cause of the problem though.

It also looks like PonyProg programs them, but I don't know if a direct connection (ie no board with caps and resistors,and buffers ) will do or not.

I'm located in Montreal Canada, where are you? It's getting warm up here!

I've only tried connecting it directly, also I've tried it with and without the eeprom connected.

... I'm an effects pedal?

I'm in Belgium. We've gone in one night from winter time to spring time, strange weather...

I'll check about the shipping cost to Canada to see if it's worth it or not.

I am in Germany. Got a MBHP Burner. If you want to I can burn it for you, too. Think its cheaper sending to here. Your choice :) But I need a 40pin adapter if it isnt. Sockets and a schematic would also do.

Lall is that MissParker your work ? I ask because of your homepage.

Yes and no:

- yes Miss Parker is our work and

- no because it's a friend who did the electronic design of the beast and

- yes because I did most of the firmware part and the PC software and

- no because another friend did the Linux stuff in the PC software

;D

The Miss Parker is one of my definitive 2do projects :) But as I'm not the guru in reading schematics for making a one layered pcb and I dont have the money to get pro-pcbs or buy the dsp atm it will definately take some time.
