Guest opiumx Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Hi, I am collecting up sid chips from c64s that I have bought all over the place. Would anyone be interrested in purchasing them ? I will start selling them in a few weeks, I figure there is no point in charging alot of money for them, would $16 shipped anywere be alright? Quote
js Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 I would probaly be interested. Right now i´ve bought one C64 im going to kill when I get the parts to make the Core and Sid module. But im pretty sure that i´d like to extend with a couple of Sid right after i´ve made the first one. :)As for the price I have to say that it´s very fair. The C64 i bought have cost me twize as much (got it with a tape and diskdrive..). There are not many C64´s around where I live. :(js Quote
gillesdeshays Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Great !I wanna buy a couple .... ;DLet us know when you're ready !Gilles Quote
Guest opiumx Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Also, are there any other parts I should look for? Anything usefull in ataris? Sega Genesis? Nintendo ect? My father has a junk store, and we have way too much of that crap. Quote
Captain_Hastings Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Other parts that might be useful:Atari ST soundchip : Yamaha YM2149Used to make a very basic 606-style drummachine in this project: http://www.preromanbritain.com/gwem/drym/Sega Genesis soundchip (first generation) : Yamaha YM2612 (soldered)I didn't find any DIY projects using these, but maybe... one day... using MIOS... *dreams*Nintendo Gameboy Classic (DMG-01) : known for their "warm" sound... with a DIY midi cable (http://www.preromanbritain.com/gwem/lsdj_midi/) and  Little Sound DJ (http://www.littlesounddj.com/) or Nanoloop (http://nanoloop.de/) can be used as a synth;D Quote
Guest opiumx Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Thanks, by the way, $16 may not be the final price, but it will be the highest price. If anything I might sell them cheaper. I have to wait to build a sid module so I can test the chips before selling them, but I will post on this forum when I am ready to sell them. Forms of payment will be paypal, money orders, and I dont like taking cash but if someone wants to it will be fine. I am in the US but will ship anywhere (these chips wont cost much to ship to UK and germany and all those places, around $2-3 for airmail which is included in my price) Quote
Wilba Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 $16 is a good price. I bought two on-line for US$25 each! So count me in for at least two. Quote
stryd_one Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 I'd love a pair of 6581's and a pair of 8580's :) Can you ship to .au? Quote
arumblack Posted September 30, 2003 Report Posted September 30, 2003 i would e interested as well. having trouble finding cheap on ebay....well, it's the shipping that sucks, and they usually include heavy drives and printers, onmly worsening the shipping.got a pristine one with a monitor at a flea market for 15 bucks,so i'll keep searching like that. but i'd pay 16 bucks to get a tested sid. NorthernLightX Posted November 23, 2003 Report Posted November 23, 2003 Hi, i might be interested in 1 or 2 8580's. Where are you located, opiumx?BTW, keep in mind that the 8580 series needs a different SID board than the 6581, if you do try them on the 6581 board you will kill them, and that would be a shame now, wouldn't it ;) Quote
arumblack Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 actually the board is the same, just a different voltage and different caps for the filter. but the actual layout i am pretty sure is the same.the voltage for the 6581is higher and so would probably kill an 8580 . Quote
LO Posted November 24, 2003 Report Posted November 24, 2003 I wonder if this SID offer even came about? the last mention from OpiumX was in AprilMaybe it was only pipe dreams :Ppeace LO Quote

So we're saying the same, practically.Damn shame the guy kept all those SIDs for himself though :-[ Quote
nerd Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 Check this out, this guy on ebay is selling 28 "Vintage SID Chips". (The auction will probably be closed by the time most people check it out).http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3443567391&category=31492Christopher. Quote
Captain_Hastings Posted December 4, 2003 Report Posted December 4, 2003 His info on chip revisions might be interesting to keep...----------------------------------------------------SID Chips: Any SID fan is well aware that each SID especially based on year and batch sounds slightly different, thus I wanted to build a collection that offers the sound of each type and have at least two for mono or stereo play and if possible extras in case a chip dies. 6581 R1: the original revisions these are unmarked. 6581 R2: the second revisions these are also unmarked. 6581 R3: the third revisions these are marked with an R3. 6581 R4: the third revisions these are marked with an R4. 8580R5: The revision 5 chip, widely used for midis but also supports some newer SIDs. 6582: these are extremely rare and a bit of a mystery. Some say these were a proto-type for the R5 which oddly is dated before these and others claim these were the R6 but for whatever reason were never released. These use the same filters and settings as the R5. Revision 1 (R1) original chips: The 1981-83 are R1 chips for certain. 1984 are probably R1, but actually could be an R2. 6581:2482 6581:1683 6581:2983 6581:0484 6581:2084 Revision 1 or 2 (R1 or R2) chips: 1984 are probably R1, but actually could be an R2. Unless you are a SID chip expert it's unknown. 6581:2484 6581:2684 6581:2884 6581:3384 Revision 2 (R2) chips: The 1985 unmarked 6581 CBM are Revision 2 (R2) chips made just before the R3 came out. These were hard to come by so I only have two, no backups. 6581 CBM:2885 6581 CBM:3085 Revision 3 (R3) chips: The 1985 marked 6581 with R3 are obviously Revision 3 chips. 6581R3:4285 6581R3:4285 6581R3:4485 6581R3:4585 6581R3:4585 6581R3:4885 Revision 4 (R4) chips: The 1986 and 1987 marked 6581 with R4 are the last of the 6581 chip. 6581R4AR:2286 S 6581R4AR:2286 S 6581R4AR:2286 S 6581R4:3586 S 6581R4AR:0287 14 Revision 5 (R5) chips: The 1988 and 1989 renumbered chip to 8580 and marked with R5 are the revision 5 chip. 8580R5:1488 25 8580R5:0488 25 8580R5:3188 25 8580R5:3589 25 6582 (R6?) chips: The 6582 chip appears to be made in 1992. Because these are ultra rare; mainly due the fact they were never used in commercial computer. Some people have told me this was the R6 chip and yet others say it was a proto-type to the R5, not sure what the truth is. The 6582 uses the same filter and jumper settings as the R5 (so it can ONLY be used in a C64 that contained the R5 and NOT a C64 that was 6581 based). 6582A:2392 25 6582A:2392 25 Quote
