Sasha
240 buttons, 720 red, green and blue LEDs... Nice! :)
leonard
buy this thing instead of a lightshow or such dumb par36 led lights :D
TheAncientOne
Nice. You could run a Von Neuman Automation program on it. Wouls certainly look cooler than the Daft Punk coffee table, (nice try guys, but a new record would be better)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCA79Du-WqY, but not quite as sexy as a Hypnocibe, for mehttp://www.hypnocube.com/MikePS. Anyone want a hypnocube built? I want one, and figure on cutting my costs by assembling one for someone else, (at a small fee).
Sasha
Hypnocube looks really cool, but 400 bux for that seams too much... think of how many cool buttons or knobs you can buy for that money...? ::)
Wilba
Wow. Took me a while to realise this is Tetris and not just some pretty flashy lights.Nice. You could run a Von Neuman Automation program on it.Do you mean like Game of Life?I love the hypnocube too but I'm too much of a hacker to be satisfied with just looking at the pre-made patterns.... I want to make my own, but it's all very closed-source.... bit of a shame really because it seems so logical to make it open source and generate a hacker community around it, instead of just a bunch of non-hackers who want to upgrade their lava lamps. And I also have typical envy of their next generation 8x8x8 cube, way out of my price range for a toy that just looks pretty and I can't tinker with. ilmenator
So why not build one using MIDIbox? And make it SEQ3 compatible, so patterns and songs can be imported from the bankstick ;D. Nah, just dreaming.Best regards, ilmenator
TheAncientOne
Yes. I think they should at least have made the pattern system open-source and provided an I/O port. I'd like one enough to put down the money for a kit, though it looks a fairly tough assembly job.@WilbaThey are a bit similar, Von Neumans generate the next row displayed by applying rules to the previous row, and so on. generally a pixel/light will be controlled by three on the row above, ie the one directly above, the one to the left and the one to the right. assigning values to the colour or stae, and using this to determine the next state. It can be very hypnotic, and there are lots of rule sets, and you can do a pre-determined or random 'seed' row to start things off.If you want to play with them (WARNING - Additive!), try CelLab http://www.fourmilab.ch/cellab/By the way - it is quite possible to make them play tunes, though my last attempt was on a BBC micro.Best wishesMike
th0mas
At Coachella there was a light sculpture that consisted of > 6000 lights that would do sequenced patterns. Here's a pic of it during the day:http://juvin.com/gallery/v/coachella/coachella2007IMG_1821.jpg.htmloh! I just found a bunch of stuff on it. It was from burning man, like a lot of the coachella art.http://www.nw.com/nw/projects/brc/Anyways, the thing was amazing. Had the drug users entranced. One kid told me he was going go to see "lsd soundsystem" which I'm pretty sure existed at the festival, if only in his mind.
DavidBanner
One kid told me he was going go to see "lsd soundsystem" lol - I think he meant LCD Soundsystem...who are pretty cool and doing the rounds on the festival circuit...

DrBunsen
Hmm. The video on Sparkfun's site shows a lot of light bleed between buttons. And it looks like they're using the button matrix assemblies we've all been drooling over... :-[
