Echopraxia
Cansomeone please give me some insight if these buttons are any good for midibox. I am wondering what type of feel they have, are they "Clicky", will they work? ect....http://cgi.ebay.com/50-Push-Button-Led-DPDT-OFF-ON-Momentary-Switch-GLKD3_W0QQitemZ300152643109QQihZ020QQcategoryZ58166QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemhttp://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/PB-146/700325/SPDT_PUSHBUTTON_W__LED_.html
stryd_one
The ebay ones, i got some from him and they do work, nothing special though. You get what you pay for.The allelectronics ones are basically tacts in a nice housing, so... You know those :)Hope you don't mind I fixed your links up...they didn't work :(
DavidBanner
stryd makes a good point, you do get what you pay for, but beware you can end up selling kidneys for some buttons.check out:http://www.rapidonline.com/products.aspx?tier1=Electronic+Components&tier2=Switches&tier3=Tactile+Switchesactually I think some of the prices have come right down, I remember paying double what they are asking for some of their buttons 12 months ago (but then my memory is a bit hazy)... Echopraxia
Thanks for the insight. I was looking at rapid's switches they all seem nice. Could you give any recommendations as to which ones from rapid to use/buy for MBSEQ V3.2? I have been wondering about feel and response issues with buttons. DavidBanner
the only way to get the info you need is to order 1 of each, check 'em out and then you'll see and feel if it is what you are after.that said, I've ordered a lot of their buttons (in fact 1 or more of every button, switch and led that I liked the look of), so if you link me a specific button I can give you a quick run down on how it is if I got one... Echopraxia
Well I was gonna ask you about several but why waste all that time when I can buy one of each like you said. My main concerns are getting ones that don't make a clicky sound every time you push them and also have the same mounting specs/sizing as smashtv's encoders. I basically want to mount them on the same board as the encoders and leds. I am trying to use a very slim case about the size of Hallucinogen's SEQ but with alittle more room in the back http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=2608.
DavidBanner
the "clicky sound" buttons are called Tact Switches (for tactile), which are the ones Halluciongen usedI'll be very surprised if you find any buttons with the same mounting holes as an encoder, but I think you mean the height right?check the datasheets for the buttons, they'll give you all the info you needmost of the nice led buttons are PCB mount, so you'll need to do a PCB or use veroboard if you wanna go down that path.good luck getting your case as thin as that, it'll be a challenge. I've gone for a much thicker case design to make life easier
ultra
for my seq, i've gone with the e-switch TL1240's.http://e-switch.com/index.php?contentID=261&type=tact&seriesID=33they are tactile and have matching illuminated and non-illuminated buttons. nebula
^^^ those look expensive! may i ask where you got them and how much you paid?
ultra
i think i got them from future electronics but i can't remember. try their list of distributors and compare prices. i remember having to order some of the caps elsewhere because they didn't have everything i needed. i'd guess it's probably about $1-2 (usd) for non-illuminated and $2-3 for illuminated, including the caps you buy separately.within the next couple weeks i should be finishing up my sequencer and i'll show what they look like. i made up a jpg of what it will sort of look like, if you want to know how big they are in proportion to everything else. i think these buttons will end up being perfect and are worth the money. ultra
i was basing this off tk's so i don't know. and future electronics is definitely not futurlec.
stryd_one
I think you based it on TK's Seq v2. You want v3. Trust me :)
Echopraxia
Has any one used these on the MBSEQ?http://cgi.ebay.com/3-Stainless-SPDT-ON-ON-Green-Lighted-switch-12V-G11ZE_W0QQitemZ300155615795QQihZ020QQcategoryZ58166QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem5046_1.JPG
DavidBanner
apart from the cost factor, those buttons are latching, you need momentary for midibox stuff....
stryd_one
My advice to you is that eBay is a bad place to buy switches unless they are a brand name and you know what you're getting.
Echopraxia
Yeah the buttons/switches gotta be real nice. Can you name some high quality brands?
stryd_one
It really depends on what you're after... If they "gotta be real nice" then you'll need to try before you buy, so buy one of many types, and try them out until you find 'the one'.
