  1. I also had a bad encoder. Wilba has promised to send me a replacement one. Academic Planner: Did you order your Sammich from this latest batch? Then you probably got a mail with the topic ORDER POSTED. There is the original suggestion.
  2. Awesome! :sorcerer: :sorcerer: :sorcerer: What was the problem?
  3. It's alive! :super: All cores work superly as well as all eight 8580 chips I bought from someone on this forum months ago. Hard to find words describing the beauty of this machine with the poor subset of the English language I master. Thank you everybody somehow involved in making this possible, including TK, Wilba, nILS, SmashTV (is that a person or the name of the shop?), Hawkeye and jojjelito! Nobody left out on purpose... I wish to present some fresh tunes in the near future... :frantics:
  4. Well, no. I don't really know how to install MIOS on 2, 3 and 4. Setting the jumper to one of them does not work. When I query for the device from MIOS Studio, the MIDI out led of the sound card is flasing for a while, then the MB6582 reboots. Maybe I should swap the PICs to core 1? Edit: Blast me! You need to change device ID in MIOS Studio as well. :P Uploading MB SID v2 to the other cores... :)
  5. Ok, I guess there are steps I need to go through then. I have successfully uploaded MB SID v2 to core 1 and I was just guessing I could do the same for the other cores by just moving the jumper and shoot. But alright, I'll dig into the manual tomorrow (after work :( ). Thanks alot! And by the way, the control surface is completed, apart from the knobs. Already got sound from the thing. LP filtered sound! :) I'm temporarily using an ATX PSU.
  6. I did not take any photos while building, but it is quite handy to take apart, so here goes... http://midibox.org/forums/gallery/album/176-sammichSID/ (Edit: The album was removed :( .. Photos attached to a post further down this thread.) Please note that I made the B+ patch a little different to what Wilba suggests, because I missed that piece of information. It does not matter though, as there is a direct connection from my point to Wilba's. As I use an unshielded left over pin from a resistor, I think it's better not risking to connect to wrong pins. Also, note that I did not install the second cooler on the current limiter, just because I read the guide to fast. Nothing to do about it, as I am using a self adhesive cooling paste (because that's what I had within reach). I don't think the extra cooler is needed though, but you should install it as it is suggested by Wilba.
  7. Right after the sammichSID was completed, the next project took place. I'm building an MB6582! My gods, that's far beyond anything I assembled before. So I've completed the base board and the control panel. Installed one core and the two SID chips for SID 1. Works perfectly! However, I cannot get more than one core to be recognized. I've installed all PICs, but when changing the core select jumper to anything but 1, it fails. If I install the display to the current core, it shows nothing, and the MIOS Studio says nothing is there. I have installed R80 (although it took me hours to find it). I'm using PCBs and base part kit including PICs from SmashTV if that matters. How can I trouble shoot this? And by the way... Many beers to jojjelito for helping me order all parts for the control panel!
  8. I also have this issue with my sammichSID I just built from the latest batch. I don't know what encoder it uses. It's still not unusable, but it would be great if this was fixable. Luckily there is only one encoder on the Sammich.
  9. Done! Awesome piece of goods. Nice set of preset patches. Wow!
  10. When connecting the control surface board to the base board, there is a difference in the hardware layout from the guide. In the guide, the female header for the display is 8x2 but the component and the baseboard is 9x2. The male connector, however, is 8x2, as well as the display. My worry is that when you align them, the display will be inserted from D7 to the hole pair after 5V, leaving B- unattached, if the screen printing on the base board is correct. I cannot see how I can connect the display aligned with the correct hole pairs. If my description is too messy I can shoot a photo. Edit: never mind. It is likely correctly connected according to the datasheet of the display. B- and B+ is probably something else. Edit2: B- and B+ is likely supposed to serve the backlight. How am I supposed to connect them? On my display, backlight are pin 1 and 2, then comes 5V and GND. The last pins, 15 and 16, are data pins. On the base board, B+ and B- are placed after the last data pins, not connectable. Am I supposed to solder wires to the backlight pins? Edit3: After studying the board quite a while I realized there must be a trace from pin 17 to pin 1, so I soldered a wire and it works so far. :)
  11. I'm sure it is. 70% of base board completed. Hope to have it running before Christmas. :)
  12. I just received a notice for my package. Custom taxes of EUR 25, but that's life. Looking forward to build it, whenever time allows.
  13. I received them yesterday. Came home late at night so I had to play it at low volume. Sounds very good so far. Have to turn the volume up before I can tell the real truth. :) Congratulations for completing this project!
  14. Lovely! :) I'll flag when I receive them.
  15. Hi! What's the shipping progress?
  16. Radical! Thanks Dr! :)
  17. Very nice to hear about the progress of the record. Of course I have the means to play it! :) Keep it up!
  18. I just found this and I have to say great job! Ordered two 7" and is now downloading the album. :)
  19. Johey

    So good!

This sounds very promising. I'm waiting to receive all parts for the MB-6582 project. Most of it is already here. I also got an answer from Wilba about the sammichSID. I'll take one just in case I run into time consuming difficulties with the MB-6582. :)
  20. Thank you for showing me that section! :D (I started this thread because I worried about you people just building cool boxes for the sake of building, never using them... Happy I was wrong. :))
  21. I want to hear your music where you have used a MIDIBox SID. The more SID the better, but please... Anything where MIDIBox SID has a part. Show me what you got! (I have nothing yet... Not even a ready to use MIDIBox SID.)
