  1. Things are getting real bad when you post replies to your own posts. The other day I had an argument with myself and lost :o :o :o Oh how delightful the leds are when it boots up ::) Those stinky segments were CC not CA. Slid the new ones in and it works a treat. ;) Now gotta work out how to change the source code ......eek :P ??? Ian
  2. Hi I have also been getting into this with the old 16f84. Be careful, it seems some guides to this stuff leave out pertinent information especially when programming in assembly. I went to a site called www.poptronics.com This site has a subscription fee but for mine is the best set up to deal with the TOTAL beginner in this stuff. Their site was being updated just now but it's well worth a look. There is a certain amount of free info also. They also use The JDM and ICProg for the examples. Needless to say I can now get leds to flash all over the place ;) ;) Ian
  3. So when hydrogen powered cars are in full flight I guess someone will want to rule Lake Taupo ;) Lemonhorse...........checked out your site today..he he :o I feel better about my kids room now ;) ;) ;) Inspired me to get my site finiished 8) Ian
  4. Hi There That rectifier is a surface mount. ( bridge rectifier ) Most come in at around 400 volt and around 1.5 amp even though they look pretty small. They have two sine wave markings on them, this is for AC voltage input. The + and - go as marked. You can't go wrong. You can apply DC voltage from your wallwart adapter to the AC connections of the rectifier with no damage. Thorsten adds the rectifier to all voltage inputs to save you getting the polarity wrong and smokin your hard work. Hope that's clear enuff Good Luck Ian
  5. So TK I bet that's the sort of result you would expect from a common cathode segment is'nt it !!? Ian :'(
  6. :-[ Ok so do you think 33,000 pf is a bit toppy for the oscillator !!! :-[ :-[ Now the leds light up ok. Thing is the numbers appear to be changing but all the leds segments are all bright and the ones displaying value are only marginally brighter. Ideas ? Ian
  7. ??? Hi Tk Just built that flooboard thing for Mackwreck. Only thing is that it does'nt go !! he he he As you know I check things and I have checked this. Upshot is that I get nil per led segment. I guess I should see something on the leds when I power up. I have not tried to send any midi with it yet, did'nt see the point. Did anyone build this thing b4.........? Wondered if there might be a code prob or something. BTW can the 877 be used ? TIA Ian
  8. Hi TK I have 16 motorfaders coming for the new boxes. ;) The MB NG LC will support 16 faders with an extra core etc ? ;D Ian
  9. Hi TK So down in the winterless South Pacific we have little need of glowing comforts in the evening studio sessions. Do I need to plan for encoders for my "19 inch " rack version SID or can I accomplish the same results using pots ? ;) I have lttle need for lights !! ;D BTW just what am I supposed to see on the 1.4 version lcd ? Now it's raining!!! TIA Ian
  10. You little beauty !!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o
  11. So given that there is now a LCD do we have to add a few buttons to gain control of the LCD and bank stick so the patches can be recalled without the use of jsynth etc ? ??? Please say yes 8)
  12. With less spelling mistakes....sue the spellcheck !!

  15. Hi there I had a mail from someone b4 regarding this similar problem. I got him to change the xtal altogether. They are,as you know,a mechanical device and can sometimes be damaged when mounting etc. This happened to me also and nothing will work without the thing. Good luck Ian

  17. Hey there If you want a good looking finish then draw the thing on cad and export the .dxf to your favorite laser cutting place. Can be pricey, mine was $150 nz (US$75 ) Check it on the brag page. I did my lettering in Adobe Illustrator and gave it to the signwriter and he computer cut the thing out of whatever they cut stuff out of and I stuck it on. Not as a solid sheet but the backing with the individual ltters etc cut out. Woorks good. My box was made of 0.9mm electro galved panel steel. Powdercoated grey. I stuck some of those self adhesive rubber feet on the bottom. Hope that helps Ian Hurlock

  22. Yeah My sids 6581's also got hot. I had a similar problem with lockups. I hav'nt rebuilt yet until the control surface "surfaces'. Think I'll be adding some heat sinks though !! I had an ensoniq pci for midi and it would send some weird message every 50 events and trip the whole thing. That card is now in two pieces on the ceiling of my studio !! 8) I got a different sound out of all ten sid's I tested. I even ran a 8580 on 12volts !! still goes ! ian
  23. Shame about that plan for the 20 SID chips eh ;) In that spare room on the chip do you think it is possible to have the ability to name banks without using the Vmidibox? That would be kind of cool. Love the new stuff anyway Ian
  24. Hi TK Just loaded the latest version into my old mb64. I was going to moan about the thing but I have worked out how to assign the menu buttons now !! Don't know what the rest of it means but anyhoo......... Gotta go name some banks he he he Very cool thanks TK and Serge can't wait for the new SID surface....... onwards Ian
  25. Sounds good TK Can't wait to use up those SID chips in my collection !!! Will this enable a better solution for the MF extension ? Well done Ian
