... some other buttons if I find them at all.

:) No, I meant what I've said. I don't know what version do you have (mine is T2.53), but these helpful features are a must. As I promised, here is the snapshot from my panel design: http://www.mb64.150m.com/temp/index.htm I made it in a hurry, so if you have any questions, just ask. Yes, this is not MIOS based midibox - it's old one, midibox 64. Works excellent. About buttons question: I have no idea, I used ones from Conrad, 11x11 mm, really minimal travel length, but I'm not satisfied 100%, think they have to be bigger. Maybe I'll reconsider

Hi Wise, I used LEDs for on/off type of functions, for example, round function for BPM, SET for offset, etc. And this works very nice. So I suggest you should consider using LEDs anyway. I'll post soon my MB design for traktor; I have some comments about your design: I started working on a traktor MB and tried NOT to reproduce the controls I see on the screen. Main reason is that if they change the interface in next version, the panel will be useless. So I developed my own design of the controls which looks a little bit like regular audio mixer, but with specific controls of the Traktor. To be more specific: I should redesign, for example, audio controls to be more on the centre of the panel, equalizers upon them, etc..

You're welcome ;)

IT WORKS! ;) System specs: ASUS Laptop, Intel Celeron 2.xGHz Many USB ports (more than 4, 2 of them declared USB2.0) Windows XP proffessional The cable (I have to return it to the source, no image, sorry :( ) is made by some anonymous (unknown) eastern company. Looks like those fancy modern mac-like peripherals: transparent cables and connectors in some color. Comes with an optional 9-25 pin connector, one cable USB->9pin COM cable and CD with drivers. When you plug USB cable, pop-up comes out asking for drivers. CD was full with bunch of various drivers, so first I tried USB2.0->COM, and got an error - Windows was screaming that it was not proper driver for this hardware. I tried with other one (USB1.1->COM), and succeded. WinXP complained about "certified" drivers, but that's OK. For LTC module, I use Kawai serial driver (have a look on www.ucapps.de for download address) because of all drivers I've ever tested for WinXP, only this one ever worked properly. So I installed it, and got settings panel where I can choose either COM1 or COM2. The USB device was COM5. I went to control panel, moved modem to COM5, moved USB device to COM2, started Kawai serial port driver settings, choosed COM2, restarted system, installed MIDIOX and everything worked as expected. Midi messages all around ;) The only problem (didn't have much time to test it properly, maybe I'm wrong) is that every time you plug that USB cable, Windows needs drivers :-/ I beleive I'm going to get one of these (it's something like 15 Euro) for live gigs (my midibox is Traktor mixing panel) as soon as I get USB audio card and USB rack (for external HDD). Right now, I'm out of money for this extravaganza :( I hope that I helped you ;)

I have the same question and I beleive I'll have the answer one of these days! My Mbox has LTC module, and I asked a friend from a computer hardware company to save for me one of those converters (I need it for the laptop). He claims that some company bought those for some very old applications which had some kind of protection on serial port, so I beleive it should work ok. It must be reckognized as a serial port on the host computer, otherwise I don't think drivers will work. You never know :-/ I'll test it this weekend and post results here.

Hi, I am already building midibox (almost done) for Traktor DJing... I don't think you need motorfaders at all, and this MIDI capability is only for sync, so you won't get feedback information. My midibox has only pots & buttons and works excellent.

@arumblack: yes, they are fine. I've got 2 vintage joysticks from tv-game, 50 & 100kOhm, both work excellent!

is there any chance to use old touchpad from some laptop?

Hi, personally, I'm not an expert in electronics, but anyway I bought ERSA Multitip 15 W - the one Thorsten mentioned. Works great and feels great to work with. Maybe a little bit heavier than it should be. Here is a ersa pdf about their irons: From: http://www.ersa.de/ersaenglisch/pdf/pls5e.pdf Size: 88 KB (89,308 bytes)

Because I don't know how to make a circuit to add encoder support for PIC16F midibox. I know MIOS is great, but I can hardly understand anything there :( (btw, I can't buy new PIC chip over here). This is "Pulse rotary switch", doesn't need decoding routine - they can be incorporated into any midibox which has DIN - look at the datasheet - it's not ordinary encoder.

Hello, I have MB64 with old PIC; Since I don't have the time nor knowledge to build MIOS based box, I decided to look around for some alternative to encoders since they are not supported by MB64 (btw, I only need 2, maybe 4) So on traktor forum, guy posted this link: http://www.knitter-switch.com/ If you go to /Products/Rotary switches/ you can see 3 products; the middle one is called Rotary Pulse Switch. I downloaded pdf and it says that it works with ordinary buttons, around 20 pulses per revolution. But in specifications block it says for Mechanical part, minimum 10.000 rotations...hm... does this mean that this switch is no good quality? What are these values for 'normal' encoders? I need to know if I'll have to change these every now & then, since I am going to use them for jog-dials (Traktor-specific midibox). thanks

Hi My mistake :( I connected LEDs wrong... I figured out today, resoldered them and everything works fine. About shift registers: tried to change them and everything worked as expected. Thanks TK for reply

Hi guys, after a few months of chaos at work and home, I decided to finish long-time started project of midibox 64. It works fine, we already have few parties with it (designed especially for Traktor). Only minor problem is with pot->button modification (see this thread:http://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=troubleshooting;action=display;num=1052757915) for which I have no solution - if someone knows how to fix this, please tell me. Anyway, I sat down few days ago and started working on the DOUT module. My box has 64 buttons (2 x DIN), but I need only 16 LEDs, so I made 1 x DOUT. I soldered 8 LEDs just for testing purposes, connected it to the core, started midibox and nothing happened. I checked all connections on the board, cable to the core module, even bought new four 74HC595 chips to be sure they are ok, checked that all cathodes are wired to 74HC595 chips, but still the same - no light in LEDs :( What else should I check...? Is there something specific has to be set-up in order to get flashing LEDs? In Vmidibox maybe?

LO, I can't see the connection - guy is asking about encoders... what is soft takeover in Traktor? Does that change pot behaviour in some way?Am I missing something here? @Kartoffel Encoders can be good when used like jog-dials on pro cd players. When you spin one, Traktor should rewind track...or you can use it for pitch-bending, etc.... I built myself MB64 for Traktor usage mainly, but MB64 has no option for encoders, so it is only pots/faders/buttons but it works great

LOL LOL LOL :D Couldn't be better!

LOL LOL LOL I can't beleive.... ;D

try this one: http://headwize2.powerpill.org/projects/showproj.php?file=cmoy2_prj.htm they claim sound quality is superb. I though of building one, but quit because I simply got amplifier from ripped-off old PC speakers ;D

good luck man :)

Try to find some old hard drives, the plates inside are looking very good for jog wheels.
-
I got a pair of similar joysticks from vintage TV-game. Both of them had potentiometers (I beleive trimmers) with different resistance per different axis. I used them for 4 inputs in MIDIBOX 64 and they work excellent.
-
I'll try with the pots just to be sure, but I think AIN works fine.

They work ok, that's not the issue. When I turn on MB64, all of them work, but send sometimes more NoteOn messages. After a while (when I intentionally press more of them, just to test), some of them fail to work at all :( No pattern - ones which fail are different every time... When I restart mb64, every button work, but still sending more messages... :-/
