Ahh dangit... I had a big reply there but the browser crashed. Bast**d It was some stuff about how polyrhythms require different tempo as well as a different meter (to the other track)in order to syncronise the measure start points, unlike polymeters which are just a different meter at the same tempo. MIDI only has one metronome (0xF8 aka clock) so the device has to support quantising the beats at different tempos to it's master clock, the F8 (or a multiplier of it). Yes, you can do that with a timestretch tool, or better yet write it in notation so you don't have to fumble it post-writing, and there are a number of other tricks, but it's cumbersome, and although it is possible to obtain a similar effect to a polyrhythm, I'd call it a hack, not a supported feature. For example can you think of any seqs which support a separate snap-to grid in the piano roll editor, for each track? Individual tempos per track? Etc Etc... All I can really remember (except a bunch of tech talk I can't be bothered with retyping) is that I said "I can combine my skateboard with a chainsaw motor, but that doesn't make it a car". I think that'll do... besides I didn't want to hijack, just to give a theory lesson :) Although I could split this off into another topic if you guys want to discuss it further? Obviously I am very interested in the topic and what you guys think of it :)
