  1. I think I've seen tact switch caps like those... maybe they're not pushbuttons? I'd have to leave that to monolake to comment on... Hunting for parts is 50% fun, and 50% fate-worse-than-death ;) Only Wilba knows the insane lengths I've gone to, to find just the right parts.... It might not help that I decided to build to military specifications and emulate the console specs of a B1 bomber for my digital stuff and the M1 tank for the analog..... and trying to do it on a relatively (to the USAF) minimal budget ;) I've spent months searching and getting insane quotes (USD$88 for a jogwheel for example) and finding bargains (I got em for 15!) in the corners of the globe and having them shipped to me down under. OK I'm an extreme example of being choosy about parts but yeh, the part hunt can be rough, especially when you've got something really particular in mind. You want a challenge? Try finding 2x40 PLED displays ;) If I had a core module for every time I decided to forget it and just buy the cheapest option, I'd be TK. Then again, if I had a DIN for every time I'd decided to stick with it, I'd be SmashTV heheheheh Hang in there ;)
  2. Just my luck, the one case I want is above the sample range, and seems to be the only one! DOH!!
  3. Rock on Bill. Way to make me need another core :P
  4. Sounds like you want a trackball, then you can just run a USB or PS2 connection to your PC from there...
  5. Heya 1) You can remove the detents from encoders so they turn smoothly but they will be continuous, not limited to a 270o turn like pots 3) Same place you buy other knobs, and it's an encoder, but you can have two buttons instead 4) We wish! :)
  6. Hah, I've just soldered a core and was thinking exactly that. That smoke is funky :-X
  7. Anytime dude, hope it works OK! Don't forget to send us all some pics and show off when you're done heheheh
  8. Read some more mate :) Don't be discouraged, there's a lot to take in! You've bought the PIC with the bootloader burned on it, and you've uploaded the operating system (MIOS), but not an application :) What application did you plan on using?
  9. Hey illy You probably should make sure the port/latch are clear before setting the input, but I don't think it's a big deal... Now I'm having a bit of trouble visualising the circuitry so I might have missed something here, but: Is it 2 or 28kOhm? I could really go a rough circuit diagram... or maybe some Z's, it is 0130 after all :-\
  10. Welcome aboard John http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=mios You've just got the bootloader on there at the moment. Check out that page and have a search around these forums as well and you'll be all set :)
  11. LOL
  12. Here, here cimo. OK I won't hijack :-X
  13. This is how you know you've got too much on your mind... I just clicked reply to mention the 256 element limitation on arrays............ .......which we already fixed up ages ago.....and I personally documented on the wiki.... ::)OMG I'm going crazy... hahahah this is what computers will do to you!! Just a little light entertainment at my own expense :) Keeping on topic, you could always try making the string 15 chars long :)
  14. 5V is fine, go for it! Additional info: I take no responsibility if I am wrong and your PC blows up! hehehe
  15. You can't get midiboxen premade but Yamaha, Kawai, and Akai have all made midi processors. Akai had a whole series of them in fact. Hit google and have a look around :) I'd also highly recommend a crappy old pentium with an equally crappy soundblaster running Converter. Cool stuff for free. We like that :)
  16. Well it's like this....either I one day get it working, or I wasted a stack of cash. Nothing is for sure, I might get hit by a bus when I go for a walk today ;) If I were you I'd be looking at 6 of them, but any amount could be interesting... So how small is a "small amount" and how cheap is "cheap"? (This reminds me of "How hot is too hot?" ;D)
  17. Nice!
  18. ahh the old hamster-race heat-sink trick! You need a good hamster-whisperer ;)
  19. Hehehe Yeh sorry if it sounded like I was teasing! I apologise, I'm just being silly. I'm good at that! I also completely missed that it was your 1st post, welcome aboard man :)
  20. From the IRC chat we're having about your question right now: "How hot is too hot?" "Too hot, is when it's hotter than it should be, because you fed it more voltage than it needs" ;) Another reg will introduce noise (so they say, I never tried it) You could strap a heatsink to it but that's a bit of a cop-out You really should match the voltage better...
  21. I wouldn't bother with silkscreening, I reckon filled etching is even nicer... Hey just a thought, the Shaeffer MBSID panel is like €150 and you guys can do it for €110, I know that one way of saving some big €$ on the MBSID panel is to change all the text to single-stroke fonts, so it could probably be even cheaper still?
  22. I wouldnt be getting anything standard either and I don't think Wilba would either. I'm not assuming any discount on the panels themselves, but as yuo say it will bring shipping down. Some of us get together to pitch in for bulk orders from time to time, guess it kinda just happens... There are quite a few of us, lots of melburnians too. Rather than a long role call, I'd suggest that those of us who want to advertise our location use the link on TK's posts and add ourselves to the frappr map :)
  23. Cut'n'Paste :)
  24. Yaknow that VST with the filters inline reminds me of a beatbox-MIDI device I imagined once, so you could replace or mix human beats with samples... But I dunno, I like beatboxing how it is ;)
