The 3D renders are another package... I've got it installed I know...what's it called..... Oh yeh Eagle3D It converts the Eagle layouts into POVRay files for rendering.

I don't think it's browser specific, either the server or the route must've been down... I could see the image just minutes after those posts, with both browsers. Sideline note for those who are aware of my position on FF: actually I'm using an IE Tab inside of FireFox 2 - finally a workable solution for someone who needs both! I've learned that the secret of enjoying FireFox enough to turn a blind eye to it's windows compatibility issues, is to spend a few days downloading addons to flesh it out ....yes it's taken 3 days so far and I'm only half-way through ::) I admire the theory of having a small footprint which can be expanded, but this sucks! They really need to make a few packaged distributions which install with a bunch of addons installed, and a wizard to configure it when you start it the first time.... And a table on the website which shows where different addons include the same features, so you don't end up with 10 addons all giving you a bunch of duplicate features. Or just a form with a bunch of tickboxes that you can select the features you want and it will grab the addons required. It is kinda worth this hassle though, and I'm just so glad that I can now open a page in FF, and if it doesn't render, or Java won't behave (which is extremely common in enterprise apps) then I can just right-click and switch the rendering engine to IE. Fanf-rrreakin-tastic. Plus the tables at ucapps.de render correctly now, which is far more important than work ;) Sorry for the mini hijack there, but I've been known to blast FF for going beyond "non-MS" into "anti-M$" territory, so I thought that, seeing as it came up, I'd say something nice about it for a change heheheh

Hey good idea! I never considered that... You could also stick the mask on bare metal and get a nice effect... hmmm... I really like that backlighting idea though!

Yeh he's been listing the dope ish for months... So spewing that I blew it :( Maybe he won't care, I mean, I did pay and let him re-list it hehehe

All yours illy. Maybe you could ask him if he can give you a few extras? ;)

lowest cost DIY illuminated button - the challenge continues...
stryd_one replied to ilmenator's topic in Tips & Tricks
That button cap is exactly what I've been searching for for my buttons! Looks nice, thx TK :) Random (Mr modnaR) you're kinda right... Although I suspect it would be decades away, I'm sure the design will stress the LED legs and eventually break them, or more likely, the solder joint. The movement is a rotation around the solder joint as a fulcrum, probably with a fair ellipse due to the downforce. The pins will be rather flexible and the solder itself will be soft (it's lead), the solder bond with the copper will be quite strong, but the weakest link there is the bond between the copper pad and the PCB fibreglass. I think the trace would be torn off before the pin snapped (provided the integrity of the pin is sustained, ie no oxidation). I mentioned in another thread a good way to bend the wires to help move the stress away from the solder joint and into the pin itself but admittedly it's not perfect....but I doubt it will be a big problem. I have been playing with pay_c's 'silicone rubber tubing over long tact switch' trick lately (if you don't know what I mean, click those links), just took delivery of my new power supply so I'll need to get a camera next so I can send pics... Long story short, it's about as cheap as the above, but takes the LED out of the button, and uses the tubing as a light pipe. By slicing the tubing a certain way (not just the angled cut pay_c mentioned, but a few others too), I've been able to get pretty good even diffusion of the light, but I was disappointed with the diameter of it, because the tact switch is about 3mm and the tubing takes it to about 6-7mm. All I needed was some kind of clear cap to put over the end, to make it a bit wider ... :) -
I've been thinking about this a bit lately and I had an idea... It's based on concepts I picked up from graffiti, and I plan on using spraycans to do it, but airbrushing would be nice too. With good can control, a spraycan will do just as good a job. It has two limitations but I don't think they're all that bad really: You have to paint the panel (so no brushed aluminium/bare chrome etc), and your panel colour may need to be darker than your lines. 1) Make stickers of your lines and lettering. The lettering can be bought as pre-cut adhesive backed sheets from stationery and art supply stores. The lines can be cut with a ruler or stencil and scalpel from sticker sheets, or you could print onto the sheets as an outline (or both). This is easier than cutting a screen because the lettering is pre-cut, and better than lettering stencils because they sit too far from the panel and leave fuzzy edges. 2) Paint the panel in the areas where the designs will be. You don't have to be accurate at all, just make sure there is paint where the letters go. Let it dry. 3) Lay your stickers over the painted areas. Use a ruler to make sure it's al nice and straight. You can draw faint pen lines over the whole panel to help with layout. 4) Spray the main background colour of the panel over the whole thing. Do this lightly and dry in layers to get a nice even coat and avoid leeching paint under the stickers. I recommend Belton or Montana brand paints, pretty much everything else is junk. 5) Peel off your stickers to reveal the letters underneath If you're familiar with the technique you can also do graphics and stuff like this by layering and fading the colours... It's just like screen printing, only done backwards ;) Any thoughts?

Do a clockbox or something man, keep it simple. You can link it to a drum box and show them how turning the knob changes the tempo.

I can beat that with some dude trying to phish 2000 UKPounds out of me last week :o Funny that eBay say they support the law enforcement agencies... They'll report an attempt to steal 2K pounds to the feds, but when someone actually succeeds in taking 800USD from me, that's not worth a mention ??? I don't know whether to blame eBay or the cops, but either way: Grrrrr. Be careful people. (Oh FWIW I knew this guy was phishing from the get-go, but I thought I'd gather some evidence for the feds bwahahaha)

Totally man. It's with the cash. You wouldn't want to make a mistake and kill that lovely 'litzer now would you?

Maybe you'd like to buy me a mac so I can use it? :)

Don't stress guys :) That seller offloads them 6 at a time pretty frequently (if it's the same guy) I've been watching him for a while :)

SDCC 2.6.0 working with MIOS wrapper, but there is an issue...
stryd_one replied to TK.'s topic in MIOS programming (C)
Thanks TK! I'm suffering badly from chronic RSI at the moment (i've damaged my rotator cuffs) so I'm not writing much code but I'll give it a shot ASAP. -
Oh yeh that reminds me - TK uses a MicroQ, we should ask him ;)

Numerology = best.seq.ever. :) I never can understand why it's not more widely used (except that it's mac only) Your project could be based on mb64e, but you've got too many inputs there for one. I'd drop a few of the pots or sliders and use MB64e, otherwise you'll have to chain two of them. Joystick - sony ps2 dualshock controllers. spectra pads - check out the forums. I don't think anyones got them going yet, but only because nobody has the FFC connectors yet. They're just pots so I'm sure they're fine, but it seems that spectrasymbol aren't responding to purchase requests.

The only thing that can answer this is your style of music making :)

Proof that you don't need to spend $1000 on a custom case to have a perfectly good midibox :)

PIC. My motivations are simple... There's some stuff available for both PIC and AVR, there are advantages and disadvantages to both, you'll grow equally familiar with whichever one you choose, given time.... I think they pretty much balance out. MIOS does everything I need so it sways my vote to whatever MBHP is using. If you're doing something new, that propellor chip could be hot....

I'm very interested in this project :) What do you mean by "range" on encoders? Are you thinking of pots perhaps? Encoders have an infinite range (like the mq, they just go round and round). Pots usually have a range of 270o, if you have an analog mixer you will know what I mean. Hopefully this link will help. I would definitely use encoders, you want to be able to make the thing sit in the rack next to your mq and so it would make sense to use the same kind of control. Do you know how many knobs you want yet? For stuff like selecting oscillator waveforms, I'd just use a single button which scrolls through and enough LEDs to show which is selected. Take a look at the MBSID to see what I mean.

Yeh AC's got the right idea. You'll only be able to do this by linking several cores, so you might as well start with one and grow it :) It's great to see some fully live electronica beginning to emerge lately. I was beginning to think I was a crackpot talking about the difference between 'live' and 'live' for so many years and being the only one. I wonder why there's such a recent trend towards it when for years people have been saying it wasn't realistic? Anyway obviously I like the sound of the project, and I'd love to hear more about your max app!
