NICE Thanks man :)
-
So what're you trying to say, the works all been done for you? ;)
-
Yeh it's simple in theory ;)
-
Not stupid at all... Well, not stupid that you don't know the answer, but stupid for getting yourself into reading this: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=6480.0 Heheheheh, see you in an hour or two ;)
-
Rowan for coming up with a thread concept that has resulted in 100% sarcasm ;)
-
Hehehe you sound like me... I dunno, I might be worse, I have a drill press in the hallway, a soldering iron in the loungeroom, C64's strewn about the spare room... It's a mess here! There hasn't been any interest from anyone else, so I'll keep a pair of 2044's around for when you're keen and ready, and just leave my order as it is... Last chance, people :)
-
"As requested" hehehe I was just kidding around mate :) That's top notch though, cheers!

is it possible to combine/mod exsisting midi controllers?

Sounds feasible, why not. Do it at your own risk man, you might end up with a really expensive pile of junk :-\ -
High quality 3 axis trackball assemblys with TTL output on ebay

Glasgow, ah you have that accent! I'll always hear you with that accent now when I read your posts ahaha No need to ship from work bro, I'll pay you for shipping and beers for the favour ;) Hey I was thinking about that whole thing with the rate they pulse at, you could use a S&H or it occurred to me today a counter IC could do the job nicely... -
Looking swee-eee-eeet man. Two of the nicest buttons I've seen in ages. What's up with the LED under the square button, how will you see it?
-
NICE! ;D Totally awesome. I hope to include it on the vX one day if that's OK with you? Pretty please share your code and designs with the community :) You can put it on the wiki, or if you like, I'll be your wiki-slave and you can PM or email it to me and I'll wikify it :)

Thanks :) I'll just reel off thoughts as they come to me, sorry if this ends up being a bit erratic... I'm just sharing some ideas I've come up with, but there's no pressure to take my lead on any of this stuff :) First thing, jumped out at me... I don't want to section things into lots of four. One of the aims of my project is to educate the world on the wonders of time sigs other than 4/4 :) Obviously, that's just a matter of drilling anyway :) I wanted the LCD (4x40 for sure) on the bottom so it is more easily viewed, and centered or towards the right, so it is near the right hand (aka tweaking hand hehe) 16 columns of buttons is a lot, and would be awesome, but will probably necessitate a second core for the CS. I wanted at least 12 rows for an octave worth of buttons in grid edit mode and 8 columns of buttons per row, as the base unit (without additional modules) but more on that later. I think bank/slot could be limiting (more on that later, but it's because of the pattern grouping problem) I was thinking of an encoder to select which pattern is assigned to the track. This brought me to another thought, of having a vertically mounted 2x40 LCD to display track info like assigned pattern, start step, end step, current playing step, play direction, loop mode, etc... Although bank/slot would be a nice intuitive way to arrange the track assignment templates that were mentioned earlier in the thread Need buttons for the clocks I don't know about the press+hold thing, that's a bit prone to error if you're too short or long in your press by accident, and slowing movement around the control surface ... I'd be inclined to put a Shift key on there. You can also use this for other things like fast encoder speeds The vX would do well to have transport buttons for each track.. 16 tracks fixed might not work out... There are two things that will control the number of simultaneous tracks - utilisation and memory. Assuming memory won't be an issue (4620 and SRAM should have that taken care of) then the limitation will be utilisation, and that will vary from song to song. Much more will be known when I get building. Okay back to the bank/slot/pattern thingy, as I somehow spaced out and forgot to mention in my post to moogah, I'm yet to come up with a way to get the patterns into some kind of group... If you're still keen to help, see if you can think of a way to group the floating patterns. Welcome to my hell. Every time I think of a way to do it, I find a problem with it :-\ Ultimately I want an "Alias Pattern" which would have a list of it's children, and would pass it's input onto each of them. Regarding the modular hardware, definitely, I wanted extensible pattern modules so you could have strange numbers of steps happening, so that 7 step patterns will be physically aligned with 8 step ones when playing in sync Ahh now you're talking ;) This is part of the scheme with the vX that I haven't talked too much about yet. Obviously the more complex functions are the kind of thing that can be a hindrance during a performance... or at least leave you hunched over the console ignoring the crowd = bad. Although I plan on fully exposing the complete set of features to the UI, the more complex features of the seq, such as programming algorithmic sequences will be best editing using a PC. MIOS is totally bitchin, but for really complex user interfaces, a mouse, keyboard and a pair of 21" monitors is hard to beat ;D Drag'n'dropping sequencer objects on screen into parameters for internal control functions, 'patching' clocks into patterns, etc etc. I'll cross that bridge some more in a year or so when it's reached that stage... But yeh, I agree. Look, regarding all thoe other stuff, which I didn't respond to directly, just assume that my response is somewhere between "Hey you stole that idea from me!" and "That's a good idea, can I steal that?!" ;) Any thoughts on all this? I won't presume to do the ascii art UI diagram like yours until I hear your opinions. As for your offers to help, I'd be especially appreciative of any suggestions of how to implement the grouping of the pattern modules. They need to operate in a fashion that allows the track to continue to operate independently They need , when the target of a function, to be able to act as a conduit for data through to the individual patterns, or act as an overlay which leaves the member pattern untouched and only modifies it's contents when it is played as a member of the grouping They need to be able to be scanned for assigned clock ticks without interrupting the flow of pattern scans and interrupting realtime operations At the moment I was thinking of making them appear almost like a normal pattern which acts as an alias in the above fashions, but I think it will require a kind of second sequencer engine, so the first engine scans patterns as per the current documentation, and the second scans the group patterns and plays them in a special manner. That's pretty drastic though, I'm hoping for an easier way... :o Another Bloody Long Post from me

Oh yeh, forgot to mention http://www.inkscape.org/ for Front Panels...

And take note of the word DEFINITELY. To clarify - If the link does not work and you cannot open it, that is NOT DEFINITELY DEAD If nobody can get to the site but it was fine last time you checked that is NOT DEFINITELY DEAD If nobody can get to the site and nobody has been able to for a month or so, then you can call it dead. Here's what I suggest: If you think a site may be dead please: 1) Mark the link as being broken with a searchable flag (Dead_Link) and provide a brief description of the problem, your login ID and a time/date stamp, EG "Dead_Link - Times out - stryd_one 0100 102306" or "Dead_Link - 500 error - moebius 2330 012910". Note US MMDDYY date formatting seeing as the US tend to rule these things ;) 2) Enter an alternate link, either to a mirror, a similar page(s), the page on archive.org, or all of these. Then 3a) If you see a link marked dead which is now OK, remove the annotation or 3b) If you see a link marked dead which was marked a long time ago (month or more), by someone other than you, remove it, and perform step 2 above if necessary. Never remove a link that you marked as dead, it might just be you, and OK for everyone else! Yes? No? Maybe?

Sorry about the bad news man. Hope it's not too hectic there right now. Hey she probably feels really bad man, don't be too harsh... But then again sometimes things aren't so rosey ::) Hey the sample is a hot tease man, I need schematics ;D

Hey, I know this isn't exactly analog, but I thought this might be of interest: http://ampage.org/hammer/files/Alphadrum.PDF Nice looking digi drum ROMpler, could make a nice sound source?

Would that be the Bernardi one by any chance? OK I've ordered up... Already ordered, for me, but if you guys want just a couple, you can take from these: 50 PT2399's... Take some! I want lots, but not that many! 10 SSM2044's... At least 8 of those are for me 20 SA571 Stuff you guys might like me to get some of: These come in lots of 10 .... SSM2044 $9 or $11 each in lots of two BBD Chips, here's the deal Clocks are like a buck a piece 1024 about 1.50 2048 about 8.50 apiece, or clones for 3.50 but orders of 50 4096 about 12.50 apiece SA571 companders $1 each, other similar companders available (NE570's etc) Opamps same CA3080's are available if anyone is interested, but again, orders of 50 :\ And I don't need any so.... If you want lots, say the word! Some other stuff that I haven't come across looking at delays and filters but might be helpful, if you have a schematic that uses any of this stuff let me know: BA6110, TL072, JRC4558P, JRC 4558D, UPC1571C, M5218P, 2SA1142, TL082, M5216L, LM308, LM311N, TC4016BP, TC40H000P, TC40HO74P, CA3094, LM317, LM358, JR56RB, LM741, TL062, LF353, AT24C02A, ADS1210P, 74141, BA634 All those prices are aussie dollars and are estimates including shipping. They might move around a little bit, I make no promise that they won't cost more... But I mean like maybe 1 dollar, tops, and I doubt that. They might work out cheaper too, they're estimates.. I'm pretty flexible... I'll take payment in cash, bank deposit, paypal, trade, PCB's, whatever... If you only want a few chips out of a whole batch I might take some as spares or something... I dunno, just ask me if you're wondering about something :) Linkage: Delays: BBD (ANY BBD Chip!) http://generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/ad3208_schematic.pdf Robote 2.5 http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=98 PT-80 http://generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/pt80schem.pdf Bernardi's 2399 (includes a nice voltage controlled resistor schematic too) http://home.comcast.net/%7Esbernardi/elec/og2/echo_delay.pdf PT239* info http://www.sdiy.org/destrukto/vc-echo.html Need other parts for this one, but yeh...800ms echo..sweet... http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/pdf/ggg_shecho.pdf For singular parts, including the holtek chip for the above: http://www.smallbearelec.com/Categories.bok?category=ICs+Delays+and+Echo About twice the price I'm getting them for, but you only have to buy 1 :) Probably gonna need some of these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/1N4148-Diodes-small-signal-200pcs_W0QQitemZ7612424205QQcategoryZ7287QQssPageNameZWD2VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

High quality 3 axis trackball assemblys with TTL output on ebay
stryd_one replied to Rowan's topic in Parts Archive
Yeh they sure do get the imagination going :) Might have a problem with ordering from Aus though, guys... This seller doesnt take paypal, so it's a slow and expensive bank transfer... $40 before we even start :( If someone in the UK would let me paypal the money to them and then buy them for us that would rock... Otherwise they might be a bit much. -
Yeh AC those are the ones :) robotfunk: good to hear someone else aside from me saying that... Those UV LED's are to musicians, what flames are to moths...
