I've just ordered 3 displays (16x2, 20x2, 20x4) and these should be in somewhere between de beginning and half of juli. I'm also organising a order for some dutch people to get the PCB's from Mike, atleast that's the plan. We're gonna order them after 1st of juli, because of the new laws for banks which come in effect after that date. We don't have to pay large amounts of transfer costs to the bank anymore by then. I'm also waiting for my second batch of free samples from Microchip which include the bankstick IC's. So sorry, but i'll won't be able to begin on the hardware for atleast 1/2 to 1 month i guess. I'm also still thinking about the user interface though. This stuff is difficult to decide ;D

Hmm, Well, i'll just have to start from scratch won't I!! I thought maybe i wouldn't even have to change most of the filenames like SID_xxx.inc, because those functions would become almost the same in my application. Therefor i thought that i would only have to change little bits of code in these functions.

Is this done by assigning the functions to a certain button/pot or encoder by the use of a number that's pre-assigned (in MIOS application code?) to a button/pot/encoder? You said there currently isn't any room in the PIC to implent the 'MIDI Learn' function. And that this function is available for the 16F8xx series designs. Wouldn't it therefor be possible to implent this myself in the application code if i start to make my application from scratch? Wouldn't a simple copy and paste, with some code changes for the new PIC routines, this code into my own code? This is because my own application would take less space as your SID application. Or isn't this possible, because it has to be a function of MIOS itself and not of the application and beside the MIOS (v3?) and the application there isn't enough room on the PIC for this?

I also want to know if this is true..... Would be very nasty if there were a latency of 100ms, this would resemble old (for example Soundblaster) ISA cards without ASIO drivers or anything. And that would be very bad in my opinion. That's also the reason why i think this info is wrong, because who would want such a big latency, certainly not Thorsten i guess!!

I've started to gather some info about PIC programmig, assembler code and took a look at the SID files. I was wondering how much there has to be changed? I know i have to change/make new tables with all the sysex data, LCD menu text, and assignments for the buttons/encoders/pots. But the functions for the button handeling and more stuff like that do not need to be changed right? And isn't it so that i can delete a lot of files from the SID zip when i use Step C (new) as a skeleton for my design? Because in my design all functions are controlled via the midi out (to the midi in of my DB50XG) and in your design there's a more 'direct' connection between the core and the SID, right or wrong? And also because of the fact that the DB50XG doesn't transmit anthing back to the integrated MIOS apllication? Some if the files are fairly understandable, but some are really difficult. The programming stuff is going to take more time than i anticipated. :'(

Hi Thorsten, I was looking at the pictures you posted above and i saw your solution with the breadboards for the encoder and led mounting. I was wondering how you determine the length of the leds, compared to the distance there is going to be between the breadboard and the frontpanel. Same question for the encoders vs breadboard and vs leds? And how do you get them to be even with eachother, a row of leds that is, on the topside of the leds? I hope you understand what i mean... A question about the integration of the original SID Step C functions into the new SID Step C. If i understand correctly, this 'CC assignment function' will be handled by a LCD-menu? Or can optionally be handled by a LCD-menu? If so, would this allow a certain (in MIOS application) programmed function (like 'Reverb Time' or 'LFO Speed' or any function that can be controlled by CC) to be controlled by: a) entering the desired encoder number in the LCD-menu with an encoder (or INC/DEC buttons)? :) b) by moving/turning the encoder in order to let the MIOS application 'learn' which encoders has to be assigned to a specified function. Like the handling of the remote control function in Fruityloops. This would be a very nice feature. ;D c) different method ??? What are the dimensions of your frontpanel? 3U in height? Would it be useful to try and find a analog-to-spdif conversion shematic/pcb for a spdif-out and add this to my design? Maybe the same for the audio in of the SID, with maybe even an option to chose from the menu which input to use...... Would be nice to have a digital out, maybe even digital in! Or is this already possible? Last question. How many SIDs do you, Thorsten, (plan to) use in your own design for the SID Step C (New)? 4? Hope i don't give you a headache from reading....... Thanks

Maar nu met die nieuwe wetgeving en zo gaat het schijnbaar makkelijker en goedkoper. Ik wil best de verantwoordelijkheid voor die bestelling op me nemen. Als iedereen nou een lijst maakt van wat ie nodig heeft vam mike's sjop en naar mij mailt, hoeft uiteraard niet meteen aangezien we toch pas na 1 juli gaan bestellen toch......

Ik moet alles nog even op een rijtje zetten, maar ik heb dus wel een redelijk aantal pcbtjes nodig, dus ik denk dat we dat bedrag makkelijk halen. Wie is straks verantwoordelijk voor de inkoop? Why don't you let other people make the documentation? Saves you a lot of time, because you have a deadly busy shedule. What do you mean by documentation, more of an contruction manual or a function manual? If i finish the one with Step C, i would be able to write such an documentation for it.

I don't understand. In the alfabet b goes to c and then to d, not from b to d.... What happened to Step C of the SID interface? That was the design where (all) functions were controlled by encoders that were placed directly under the appropiate function showing on the display, right TK?

Ik zou het helaas niet weten, omdat ik zo lomp was om die te vergeten bij mijn bestelling. Mijn bestelling bestond uit 3 PIC18F452. Very nice! Luckily, i'm not the only one who thinks the same way about a chat. But as others have mentioned, it's also nice to chat to some fellow diy people, as long as the real midibox talk stays on the forum.
