Salut!

It's not possible. Mackie-Protocol uses all channels on the midiport. have a look at this thread: http://69.56.171.55/~midibox/forum/index.php?topic=3097.0 the easiest way is to build the ltc in the lc. the usb module is more expensive. if you want to build a big LC with multiple cores or with other boxes attached you could also buy a midisport 2x2 or 4x4. rip it and put it in your box.

Hi! You can not do that. The MBLC needs its own dedicated port. I have a BCR2000 (which is similar to MB64E) and a MBLC (which is not completely finished but I allready tried the original MCU and i tested the MB without the motorfaders). When you want to do Live-Performances you should have a MB64E. The LC is much more usefull for mixdown if you produce with live like me. When you want to easily access parameters of softsynths, filters etc to tweak arround when jamming/performing it is way too complicated with the LC as the encoders have many different functions and you have to swich through submenus to get what you want. Search for Sashas customized "Maven-Controller" that he uses for Live in his shows. I've heard that it is in fact a Midibox Rip-Off (there's some evidence for that) regards, rambinator

Hi! I used 0,8mm PCBs (which is 0.03'') to build smartcards back in the days of analogue pay-tv. they still were to thin for the card-slot in my decoder and I had to glue some hardpaper onto them. they are very flexible and easy to bend if they are from the same material as mine (from bungard). I would definetely not recommend them to support mechanical parts like buttons. cheers rambinator

Hi! I still didn't find a good PSU for my MBLC, i still use a wallplug + a lab-PSU. Now I stumbled accross a PSU which is an external PSU for PC komponents. You can get 2A from both, 5V and 12V. It costs 28€. Thats not cheap but I didn't find anything better yet. They also seem to have good ones at Dehner but they don't sell to private customers. Here's a link to the device: http://www.hardwareshop4u.de/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/507_1272/products_id/10740 And a review in german: http://www.exclaim.de/tests/artikel/212_1/Externes-Universal-Netzeil.html Could you please comment on this one as I am desperately seeking for somethin that will really work. I also thought about building one with two enclosed transformers on a breadboard (I think someone suggested something like that and I also saw a picture somewhere on the forum) but I have bad experiences with high voltage so I'm afraid of doing it. cheers Rambinator

Hi there! Now as screaming_rabbit got our motorfaders and I am on vacations from university, my midibox project goes on. I have designed pcb's for the buttons with sockets for flat-cables to keep the cabling clean but then I realized, that I did a tremendous mistake when assembling the AINs and DINs, which was one of the first things I did last year. I bought them as kits from mike and they came with SIL-Headers as pin-outs and I was so dumb to use them with out thinking about tomorrow. Now I see that many of you used socket-connectors for easy plugging of the cables and the inside of the boxes still is quite chaotic. I fear now that I will be lost when connecting all of the cables (soldering them all will be horror and a primary source for errors) Did anyone of you do the same like me? Any solutions for clean cabling with the SIL-Headers? I hope that not everything is lost, I don't think it would be practical to desolder all of the Headers. greetings, rambinator

Motorfader and other parts Bulkorder 2005
rambinator replied to Screaming_Rabbit's topic in Parts Archive
Hi! I haven't received anything either. I think screaming_rabbit is very busy at the moment. We have to give him the time it takes to organize the thing. Anyway it is so damn hot here at the moment (Germany) that i'm not willing to switch on my soldering-iron... -
softsynths: how do you all deal with parameter-jumps?
rambinator replied to rambinator's topic in MIDIbox HUIs
hm! so maybe i'll have to save a lot of money again for new soft :/ yes there's no problem with standalone-synths but I don't do a lot of live performance as I'm into Trance-Music. Also many of the synths I use are freeware which can not run as standalone and need a host. cheers rambinator -
softsynths: how do you all deal with parameter-jumps?
rambinator replied to rambinator's topic in MIDIbox HUIs
Thanks for your reply. What applications do you use? I also have encoders (a midibox lc in gpc mode and a b-control bcr2000). But I don't have any softsynth supporting relative controller messages ( I heard that reaktor has it) Furthermore I think the host-sequencers could adress this issue much better. I'm using sonar which doesn't work with relative messages and doesn't give feedback with vsti-automation. Support in Ableton Live is good but I won't buy it because of other issues which don't suite my needs. Finally I've heard that cubase does give midi-feedback when controlling vsti but at the moment I couldn't afford a switch -
Hi there! This question goes out to all of you who use a midibox or a similar midi-controller (like b-control) to control vsti's and not mixer parameters (for that purpose LC works finde in most studio-apps). What are your experiences regarding workflow and ease of use? At the moment I'm really getting angry because there doesn't seem to be any host which deals with this issue properly (and I downloaded almost any trialversion available) although it should be quite easy for them to implement it. What am I talking about? FULL DUPLEX Midi-Controller support for softsynths!!! I usually use Sonar and it works fine with MbLC for mixing, but controlling synths with it is a pain in the arse... Many softsynths can more or lesse be controllled via cc or nrpn but without feedback to the controller.... result: you are creatively fiddling around, change patch touch some knobs -> everything is f***'ed up. I think feedback could be implemented in the dxi-wrapper easily. I didn't find any vstis supporting relative controller-events either. In Sonar I can also arm vsti-parameters for automation and assign 4 of them to the midicontroller... no feedback either :( So far for sonar, I don't know about cubase as I don't have it (maybe I would by it If the situation was much better there). Now I'm coming to Ableton Live 4: The controller-support is just like I want it too be in every other app. You assing any knob to anyparameter in the host-app and get a feedback when you change the patch in you synth (ledrings update...) Could be like a dream and I woul surely buy this one if it wasn't such a CPU hogg. I get at least 10% more CPU-use and dropouts much earlyer compared to sonar (or anything else). Other let-down... when rewired into sonar you can't use vstis (can't be so hard to fix that). Well... the trial will expire in 3 days anyway and I'm not willing to spend 450€ before these issues willbe adressed in ver.5.. So you read all of this lament and get my point? How are you dealing with this? How is your creative workflow with softsynths and their patches. Do you safe a snapshot in your controller for each and every patch you use? (doesn't sound practical to me). What do people with classic pots and no encoders usually do? What do the manufacturers of devices like behringer (bad example I know) think we should do when advertising things like: "control you softsynths with flexible ledrings and display for real-time parameter indication"? are they taking me for a ride?!? Maybe you think, what's the prob... but I am really angry at the moment because I don't want to fight with hardware when Ideas are hitting me.... I sometimes think I should throw everything out of the window appart from the virus and get back to Atari ST and a tapedeck ;D Maybe someone can calm me down a little.... best regards rambinator

Motorfader and other parts Bulkorder 2005
rambinator replied to Screaming_Rabbit's topic in Parts Archive
I would also like to add 2 x RSAON11M9, N-Type Motorfaders just in case that I break some :) -
hmmm.... seems that nothing more has happened here. anyway, ableton has anounced that live 5 will have native MCU support. so I just have to wait until end of july to check out the new demo.

Motorfader and other parts Bulkorder 2005
rambinator replied to Screaming_Rabbit's topic in Parts Archive
ring, ring :) I'm starvin'! p.s: don't take this too serious, I appreciate very much that Screaming_Rabbit is organizing this bulkorder -
Hi all! Sorry that I bring back this old thread. I'm also thinking of adding ableton to my studio setup and my LC enters the final stage of the building process. So I'm quite interrested if anything has happened regarding this little tool an compatibillity with MBLC. cheers rambinator

Yes, you're right. But if I wan't to do major changes to the lc-application I first have to understand how the functions provided by mios work before I can use them in my own application. So far I just took a first look at the mblc code and I don't know how difficult these changes would be

Something I forgot.... Apart from the remotecontrol connector (for the pg-800) the jx8p can also be controled via midi. You could get the prog JXEDIT and log the mididata with midi-ox. Then you could make the midibox you want to build do what ever you want. maybe I'm just talking crap :)...
-
Hi! Are you sure that the PG-800 is a Midi-Controller? It doesn't even use a midi cable like the pg-300 but a 6pin din-cable. If it is not midi you have to get hold of the protocol-documentation. greetings rambinator btw: your link seems to be dead.... http://www.bernhard-doering.de/Synthi-Museum/Museums-Guide/Roland/JX8P/PG-800/PG-800.jpg

Yes, someone please help me as I only have very marginal assembler knowledge. I am allready trying to understand mios... but it will still take me very long to get anywhere :) Good to know that there is enough space for additional opcode in the uC left

Hi there! Today I have tried the general purpose mode of my midibox lc and it's really usefull for me when I want to control softsynths within the host-sequencer. Nevertheless I would like to have some improvements and I would like to know if these are possible at all... 1) is it possible to make the GPC to switch between the v-pots and the faders, as some parameters are better controlled with faders in my oppinion. 2) would it be possible to create multiple setups (labels and cc's) for different synths which could be stored in a serial eeprom? 3) could the gpc also send nrpn messages? I'm looking forward to your interesting answers. greetings rambinator

Hi! I'm still stuck with the design of my frontpanel-layout which should come close to the original mackie-design. I have allready designed all the parts in mechanical-desktop. I also want to use a camouflage pattern as background. The only thing I can't get done are the scales for the faders. For the pots scales I have used the FrontDesigner from abacom. It also has logarithmic scales but not the kind that is suitible for mixers (the area between -6 and +6 db). Does anyone know some template vectorgraphics or something similar? what applications do you use for your layout? coreldraw? I'm using "hartschaumplatte" as material (the same as in axels great design) and I want to glue a coulour print to it and finish with some varnish.... best regards rambinator

rambinator replied to Screaming_Rabbit's topic in Parts Archive
may I just add 8 * FK13x25 blackchrom to my order? I can't decide what will look best... greetings rambinator -
no need to reburn. thanks to mios you can upload the app via sysex. what project are you planning. the midibox64e could be the app for you to go with.
-
what do you mean with ? If they won't support it, i thought you can't use it at all with cubase... am I wrong? Can you use the mackie control universal with software which doesn't support it (like orion platinum), acting as a normal midi-controller like the behringer bcf2000? i thought that it something completeley different (regarding the protocol, which can of course be also emulated by the bcf)? as a midibox lc user you can of course upload a different firmware... yet another reason not to go with steinberg :) greetings rambinator

That is indeed very surprising. I hope that it's not the typical "Messe-Blahblah" (don't know the english expression).
