Thanks for nice words stryd ;)
-
OK, maybe this parts catalog thing is not a good idea at the end. ::) The word that`s in my mind now is avalanche... I must check wiki again, I forgot what exactly was bothering me.
-
I don`t know abot that... you might be right, but I thought people wouldn`t post every button they find, just cool ones they really liked. Maybe the answer is to restrict posting to adding parts without discussion about other people`s selection. Personally, after years long part hunting, I don`t have much parts I would put in, which is kinda sad. Stryd, how many cool ones would you recommend? Also, we shouldn`t add electronic components, just "cosmetics" that needs to house the project. I think building nice looking box is the biggest problem to people. I see great projects here that looks pretty...well, ugly probably because people bought what they can find locally. People (here in Serbia) very often ask me "where did you get those..." You probably right, but I tried to create some pages in wiki and I really didn`t like the way they needs to be edited. I never edit wiki only because I don`t find it convenient enough. :-\

Hi, Struggler. There is nothing critical in this list, but you must pay attention on pots... your link to Rapid Electronics for pots showing whole list, but you need to buy 10K linear, so part noumber is 65-0515. Same thing with sliders... you need 66-0105. Happy shopping

People are often asking questions regarding of specific part... knob, button, LCD... Why not add new category, or sticky inside "Parts Questions" where people can (must) insert image and part noumber and URL of online shop or distributor. How many times people asked about Waldorf knob...? ;D If all popular components are on one place it would be easy to browse the list of attached images, see part noumber and URL of supplier. Let`s make this place even better. ;)

8xSID MB-SID PCB (aka. MB-6582) - request for comments
Sasha replied to Wilba's topic in Bulk Orders
Wilba, OSD`s display marked as OSD2004M01 is 20x4 and it is discontinued. :( Seams they have got no more 20x2 displays. I really dont understand what is the problem with those PLED`s. Are they just looking good and draws less current but otherwise sucks so they are not producing anymore or what??? -
As you, I am BIG fan of soft touch knobs myself :), and I want to order same model, and same colour you used, from Farnell for controller I want to build for Ableton Live. ;D They are really nice, but... What I really don`t like is knobs with pointer mounted on encoder. ...Pointless! ;D I especially don`t like when it sticks out, so when you turn encoder you will feel the pointer so many times under each turning finger. Maybe I`m overreacting but few people agreed with me. I will strongly suggest using Albs soft touch knobs used by many people here. Really nice ones! You can see it on TK`s SEQ. They comes in two colours - gray and black. They also make pointer-less Waldorf knobs (check out TK`s and especially Wilba`s SIDs) I spend so much time hunting buttons and knobs, and these are really only ones I can strongly suggest. ;) PS. And hows that Korg microKONTROL serves you? I bought new one, and all but 2 encoders faild after only few months of sporadic using. >:( I would never recomend this controler. I also borrowed Korg Electribe from friend and was even more surprised with extremely low quality of the pots. They have some inexpensive gear, but quality of components are unacceptably bad.

Monitoring Headphones - your suggestions please
Sasha replied to TheAncientOne's topic in Miscellaneous
Hey Stryd, that HeadRoom or headphone.com (as URL says) is really good website. Comparison graph is really helpful, especially because you can compare up to 4 headphones. Thanks for the link! ;) -
;D I like that one! ...and damned true.
-
Looks great! :) I think you could find some more appropriate knob for encoder.
-
... agree! ;D
-
Hypnocube looks really cool, but 400 bux for that seams too much... think of how many cool buttons or knobs you can buy for that money...? ::)
-
Yeah, you`re right... Wilba`s baby messed me up completely! ;D

240 buttons, 720 red, green and blue LEDs... Nice! :)

All commodore 64 and 128 have SID chips. You need to look for chips marked 6582 or 8580

James, I wouldn`t recommend this method because it takes much more effort to make desired distance between PCBs than simply staking few regular plastic spacers. I made my Endorphin completely that way... all sub-panels and PCBs. You can find those spacers in different lengths. I combined 5, 10, 15 and 20mm long spacers with 2mm nuts to get what ever high I needed, and believe me, Endorphin have so many different levels to adjust. I used this angled headers before and they are a way to go if you have got no space. Of course, they are only useful for connectors positioned at the sides of PCB.

Lucky you! I don`t like this gray cable at all, but I`m afraid to try to open this PSU because it looks sealed very hard with melted plastic. Has anybody tried to open this type of PSU? I have few different ones... with screws, but this one really sucks and in same time it looks nicest with those ribs.
-
Thanks Stryd. I have always loved design of C64 PSU but I hate original colour. I wanted to paint it mat red but it ended mat black.
-
It`s not that I`m completely slowed down... I sanded down all casting marks from this PSU, applied few layers of primer and few layers of black mat paint. ...now it looks evil! Something tells me that I need to change the wall plug too... :)
-
My SIDs decided to remain silent when booting... ;D Thanks Wilba! ...I just told them what you told me. ;) It took all my free time, including vacation, to build Endorphin to this stage, but from now I will slow down. I hardly cannot imagine something better to do after work than make some noise with this knobless, faceless monster. :)

And now about dimming LEDs with UDN2981... I really like Mike`s Ideato dim LEDs using this chip and LM317, but it cost as more that whole parts for DINx4 so I really dont find it useful for dimming the LEDs. I think I`ll test some resistors to see which value suits me best.

QL. Thanks Wilba, so I`ll be OK then. Glad to hear that... ;D

I add 3 more 24LC256 yesterday and I`ll add 4 later. This is first time that I use more than one chip in bankstick and I was surprised to hear bankstick sound played 4 times. Is it OK? Everything else worked normally... I`ve uploaded more patches to memory and load some patches to into SID to test it... no problem. As I get it bankstick sound is played once for every chip, so for fully stuffed 8 chip BS sound will play 8 times at every startup...? That was kinda cute when I heard it first time (one 24LC256 attached) but listening that so many times at power on I find very annoying! How is that startup sound made? Can it be disabled/edited easily to be played only once, ...or something more discreet, like one beep?

Hey Xavier, nice job! You did it finally... I almost forget about you. :) I would also like to make one of these after I finish what I already started... my "To Build" list is constantly growing.
