Good point Steve, I guess with my lack of manufacturing skillz :-[ (I wish I have yours) maybe I can say yes. I just don't have that much experience to begin with the PCB design, layout, and tools handling. :-[ Maybe in the future, I'll be better. I hope!! ::) I did notice my improvement on making things, all because of you guy's tips!! So my advise to the poster of this thread, it depends on your experience... ;) Plus cost!!

Early on this topic, I was thinking of silkscreening. But I thought of those processes you mentioned in my head + the cost of the material, and my ugly handwork.. not to mention my lack of proper tools to begin with.. I concluded to "FrontPanel Express"!!!! ;) Its cheaper, better material, overall layout, & that professional look,,, this is the way to go for me!! 8) I also like to have my labeling engrave and color filled on the panel to avoid rubbing off, which are no way I can pull off. My panel cost for my MBSEQv2 thru FPE is $120 incl. shipping. ;)

I personnally prefer to panel mount most of the switches, so to have a sturdyier feeling of the interface. But those damn illuminated buttons are too damn expensive. >:( $6~13 per button will cost you an_arm_and_a_leg & left kidney!! >:( The only way to go cheap with illuminated buttons is to make your own. Unfortunately, only a PCB mount style can give you a better mounting and alignment of the components, with the expense of the toughnest feeling of the panel mount switch. ;)

Now what would be a good excuse to give my son when I take his controller to a gig..hmmm.. :D

Umm, I guess the disadvantages is, there will be a lot more wiring to the PCB, hence, more clutter?? Also, there will be some more extra holes on the panel to hold like LCD in place. The big advantage I personally see is, easy alignment of switches and encoder/pots with out the restriction of the vectorboards, that's if you use vectorboards to mount your components. my 0.2 cents!! ;)

OK, My LCD's are from http://www.lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/category.asp?cat=Lcds Test results are: Seiko L4042B1L 2x40 on my MBSEQv2: Results: 4007 *8 *100 nS Seiko L1642B1L 2x16 for testing the core: Results: 4066 *8 *100 nS cheers!! EDIT: These LCD's needs negative voltage for good contrast results. I used MAX1044 chip to supply -2v.

CATDOG, I was a newbie and still a newbie.. But it does not say that its impossible to build these projects. One thing I've learned in joining this forum/project is, people are helpfull in this forum and the projects are very well documented. I got by most of the time by using the Search function of this site. You'll be suprise that most of the questions of most projects (at least in my case, MBSEQv2) have been ask before and answered already. I hope this helps!!

TK, Thanks for this update. I'm still running the mios_v1_9c_rc1 and it seems my encoders are a lot more stable on my SEQv2. I will replace this 1.9c rc1 with this final release. thanks again.
