  1. is there any possibility that due to some weird issue the core receives hex files from mios studio through midi but sysex and "normal" midi data not? i'm curious because i have just installed a bank stick - and after launch when it started formatting i could hear those nice oldschool bleeps which i assume where intended. but i cannot get midiox to upload the patches sysex - even with the delay set to 750 ms no data is on the bankstick. i definately sends it but the core seems not to respond to it. is that possible or is the fact that hex files are going through enough evidence that the connection with my pc is correct?
  2. wtf ? no it didn't die... i loaded up the testtone several times and each time - no sound. now i uploaded the sid software - no sound and then i uploaded the testtone again and voila! works... maybe the fact that there are a few errors when sending the hex with mios studio should bother me ? i'm getting something like "less bytes than expected have been received" ??
  3. no but i probably kille my sid. i wanted to try if maybe just unplugging the not-4bit linked lcd might work and i launched the box up and nothing happened. so an hour ago i come into my room and want to solder the lcd to 4bit mode as realise that i haven't unplugged the sid and it was on for two days !! i finished soldering the lcd a few minutes ago and it works fine but now i have absolutely no sound at all even with the testtone generator. probably the sid chip just died.
  4. okay dokey. thanks a bunch.
  5. yeah - i'm using a freshly brand new core v3 module, sid v3 module and have uploaded the newest v2 software. i have just unstuffed my lcd from my old box for troubleshooting and it's connected like in the "normal" boxes. no crashes until now. (i checked the midi channels, nothing there) ((oh and one thing - i have NO bankstick but afaik it shoul be able to play something right? the first patch is always loaded?))
  6. thanks tk: 3a is done and solved, 3b is ok but 3c is a bit wicked for me... so i have to desolder all those pins from my lcd ? but i have no problem with that... is that really necessary ?
  7. i have a stable 8.8 volts on the sid , 4.0 on C1 and 2.11 on C2 is that correct ?
  8. it's driving me nuts ! i thought i might finish my sid tonight but i still have some odd problems. i'm totally out of ideas what i could troubleshoot next. the testtone generator works absolutely fine and the interconnection test (after finding a faulty 595) went absolutely fine. the only thing that bothers me is, that instead of 5.0 volts i get voltages around 4.8 but afaik this is almost the same (or at least it didn't matter with a "normal" midibox) still, when i upload the sid software i can't get it to play any sounds. it's totally quiet (besides some quiet buzz from unshielded cables). is there anything else i might have to try before i toss this out in the garbage and start again from zero? it seems totally wicked...
  9. i guess so - changed it, works.
  10. i'm quite comfortable with my soldering skills lately and some time ago i stopped using sockets for most of my parts. with din, douts and ains i had no problems until now. - all those chips seem quite durable. the problem is that i have now completed another core and i can't get the midi in port to work. i have made the optocoupler test 1 and the led won't go off once i ground the optocoupler. might i have killed the optocoupler with the soldering iron ? is it that delicate ? or are those couplers a bit buggy and i might just got a dead one ?
  11. are those ecler knobs ? where did you get those from ?
  12. oh man you are my personal hero ! in fact i forced mios into the pic a few times with mios studio and it finally worked. at the beginning i got a lot of feedback like this "unexpected sysex request" or somehting like that but then suddenly i went in smoothly and now works like a charm ! so if someone finds this topic with the search function - when you have some similar problem, try using mios studio for uploading the sysex with the enabled function "wait for upload request" (it WONT work witout this ! - i tried several times). click "send sysex" and then reset your core to make it send the upload request.
  13. no it's probably really dead - this sysex string it sends when it starts up isn't a dump request - at least neither sysexbox nor miosstudio receive it as such. manually uploading different applications with different programs doesn't work either. another wicked thing is that on this other pic (a newer one) i can't get to rest the analog inputs - they just won't get themselves grounded and i get alot of midi garbage. also the ains was the only thing i was working on today so i must have damaged something there or maybe i didn't disconnect the midibox before soldering and something burned inside the pic.
  14. my core worked for over two years, now i have inserted a new sysex and suddenly it won't start up any more. i just have the long black bar at the top of the lcd. the sysex request still goes out but it seems to not respond at all. the weird think is that when i did put in another pic and uploaded a sysex it suddenly started to reset like in the topic beneath but i finally got rid of that. but what with the first pic - is there any way to check if a pic is dead with a multimeter or something like that ?
  15. try another 7805 - i had similar problems too.
  16. okay i tried the few initial screens and still no luck - on the only change is that i had meter bars of the output which was quite fun but nothing else. when i switch the "global view" switch the bars dissapear and there's nothing on the screen then... i'm starting to think - may it be a problem related to latency maybe? i've gotten curious after i've seen those ouptu bars - they work with a horrible latency which makes the actually useless - it takes even half a second before the bar dissapears when i turn the volume down...
  17. no i wasn't aware of that ! i thought that it would be identical as in husker vu... could you then please tell me where to change to initial page setting ? thanks
  18. okay the problem is the same in cubase sx 3 this is what is on my lc screen all the time this is what should be on the screen according to huskervu do i have to change something in the code ? do i have to press some button ?
  19. sorry din of course - yes i have changed the io tables like this: LC_IO_TABLE_LAYER0 ;; 1st shift register ;; button LED db ID_SELECT_CHN1, ID_SELECT_CHN1 db ID_ASSIGN_PLUG_IN, ID_ASSIGN_PLUG_IN db ID_VPOT_SELECT_CHN1, ID_IGNORE now i open up a channel with some synth in it and then, pressing three buttons in a row should switch the lcd to show me the parameters in the synth. at least huskervu does. the lc screen shows me still only that the first channel is selected.
  20. so - i have put together a really stripped down version of the midibox lc and i have changed the assignments of a the buttons so i can live with only one ain. i launched everything and now have the "mackie controle emulation" in the first row and the number of the selected mi track in the secod. kewl. when i change the channels in ableton with my mouse it changes the number on the lc screen - very kewl. but - that's it. when i press select plugin and tweak controls or tweak send parameters nothing happens on the screen - it show me the channel number and that's it. weird. it's even weirder that i have put huskervu between ableton and the midibox lc and huskervu shows everything just fine. what might that be ?
  21. sorry i didn't want to make a new topic for every single of my problems.... on another board i would get punished for that :> okay making a new one. sorry.
  22. i'm sorry to get of topic but might someone help me? i have put together a rough midibox lc and it started to work fine - it shows "mc logic emulation" in the first line of the lcd and the selected track number in the second line. but nothing else... i mean when i click selectr plugin or select pan or anything the same thing is still on the screen. and it should change - i have huskervu in the background and it shows that there should be something else on the screen.... did i miss something ?
  23. oh geez you probably think that i'm a total idiot :> but you misunderstood me. of course i know that the gap i because the lcd's are on pcb-boards and those board are a bit wider that the lcd's themselves. but the gap isn't a problem - and yeah asymmetry looks quite cool sometimes. i just don't want to have unused space on the lcd. asymmetry is cool :> so will this work ? are my calculations right that the system uses only 8 signs ber channel ?
  24. as i have counted on several piutures in the midibox lc galery, on channel strip of logic control needs 8 signs on the screen (6 sings plus 2 spacers on the left and on the right). i see that the most popular solution is to use up 2x40 lcd sceens. but i totally dislike the fact that there is that blank space on the left and on the right. so my question is - could i instead use a 2x40 and a 2x25 screen? that gives me 65 signs in a row and as far as my math goes i need only 64. 5 channels would be shown on the big 2x40 screen an the rest three on the smaller 2x25. possible ?
  25. thanks thorsten. but i forgot to menion that i want to use the v2 core with the v3 sid. but the v3 sid needs the pwm output from j10. is it enough to just make the bridge to pin 17 od the pic?
