Hello, I'd like to build a SEQ V3 with the 64 LED matrix, but am not entirely sure about the specs I should be paying attention to. Would I be able to just build a SEQ v2 with the new PIC and have the capability to add the matrix of I/O buttons/LEDS into it? Also, do you guys recommend three lead LEDs and do you have a recommended source for them. Sorry, I tried to read all I could but there isn't much on the V3 and I'd like the 4x16 matrix (or even more, can it do even more than that?).

Okay, okay okay. Got my order back from Mouser and there is a lot out of date stuff. I have updated a great deal of it. But I don't know the specs for the IIC unit's 20MHz crystal. Can someone tell me if the one below is kosher or is there a specific package/spec I need to get? I'm lost in the details for this. 73-XT49U2000-20 PS I believe my questions are becoming less and less stupid.

Non-Board based parts question (knobs posts leds)
napierzaza replied to napierzaza's topic in Parts Questions
1) What is the "FAST" function? 2) Well, I understand that the button did not come exactly like that when ordered, but I do need the PCB mountable buttons with the extra long rod to make it don't I? That's all I really meant. 3) It doesn't really seem that much cheaper off ebay as far as I've seen. Some places offer good prices for Leds, but it's even hard to find good ones. I haven't checked for buttons though. Any search-word recommendations? -
Okay, I have a bunch of questions, I'm trying to figure out getting the controllers parts, mostly for a SEQ right now. LEDs Is there any reason to get a 3 lead, 2 color LED? It seems like that might come in handy a great deal for the sequencer grid. If this is a useful thing, does anyone know of a good LED on mouser than does two colors? I searched quite a bit but it's really obvious I missed a lot of choices. ENCODERS Non-Detented/Detented? Can someone point me in the direction of what that means. Also, should my encoder have a push button, is there any actual use within the hardware? What type of data is it (2 bit grey code or 2 bit quadrature code????). KNOBS Do they have good knobs on Mouser? I don't need anything fancy, mostly cheap. Does anyone know of a cheap knob I might get. I'd pay more if it is a nice knob, but I'm not going all out for sake of them. BUTTONS I'd like illuninated buttons for the sequencer grid, but it looks tricky. Where can I find the buttons like the link below at Mouser? http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=2517.15 Sometimes it's really hard to pare down a query on Mouser, and I just hope that somoene else already put the work in! (sorry!) Any help would be appreciated.

I had minor trouble with the Microchip site when I was ordering the samples, the names are so very similar that I was really close to making a gaff at each moment. Looks like I did it right (but I haven't gotten those in teh mail yet). Durn it, I want to order from some supplier soon, I don't want to get my PICs and not be able to do anything with them!
-
Well I would have bought the kits from you so it's easier; but Jidis was extremely nice and made soome boards for me, and I can't just order parts from you (as far as I know). Anyhow I should be buying lots of buttons and pots from mouser anyhow (if I can muster the strength to continue the search on their site).
-
Rightly so, I'm not making demands of course. Anyhow, it just didn't seem like the best idea was to leave it in my hands :-p Anyhow I sent the parts list to Mouser and they might do it for me anyhow.

Wow, thanks Smash that's all really useful. Problem: for the CORE module on your site the 512-BC33716TA is "not stocked" and appears to force you to buy 12000. Am I misreading the site or is this so? Should I change that to 512-BC33725TA?? I really appreciate the help with this list and the lists on your site, but should they be updated?

Okay, I searched and searched (using Centronics first, thanks) and found out it's called a "D-Sub" connector. They have 25p D-subs, but they're about 4 dollars: 25 pin D-Sub connector, male 571-5747842-4 There's two kinds, difference is that one has "boardlocks" and the other has "mount holes" and I don't know what that means.

Okay, I tried to straighten it as much as possible. Anyhow, does anyone see any glaring errors?

This is sort of a continuation of the "Digikey Quotes" topic. I had to change to a new topic, firstly because I'm not going to buy from Digikey, but from Mouser; second of all I am very green at component picking so I was wondering if I could get any comments for the PIC Burner Mouser order list I assembled? One problem left (I went through several in the other topic): I can't find LPT connectors anywhere, even browsing through the i/o section of the site. Does anyone know what it would be under? MBHP BURNER Orderlist (last update: 01-2007) +-------+---------------------------------------+-------+--------------------+ | Loc. | Description | Qty | Mouser Part # | +-------+---------------------------------------+-------+--------------------+ | - | IC-Socket for PIC | 1 | 571-3902625 | | - | IC-Socket for 74HC14 | 2 | 2-641609-1 | | - | 74HC14 (6 x Schmitt Trigger) | 2 | 512-MM74HC14N | | - | Transistor BC337 | 1 | 2N3904TA | | - | Resistor 10 kOhm | 3 | 291-10K | | - | Resistor 1 kOhm | 7 | 291-1K | | - | Resistor 470 Ohm | 3 | 291-470-RC | | - | Resistor 220 Ohm | 1 | 291-220 | | - | Trim Pot 2.2k | 1 | 3362R-1-222LF | | - | Diode 1N4148 | 1 | 78-1N4148 | | - | Diode 1N4002 | 1 | 821-1N4002 | | - | Voltage Regulator 7805 (in TO92) | 1 | 512-LM7805CT | | - | Voltage Regulator LM317 (in TO92) | 1 | 512-LM317LZ | | - | Ceramic Cap 100nF=.1uF "104" | 6 | 80-C412C104K5R | | - | Polarised Capacitor 100 uF (min. 35 V) | 1 | 140-XRL35V100-RC-TB| | - | Polarised Capacitor 10 uF (min. 20 V) | 2 | USR1E100MDD | | - | Bridge Rectifier | 1 | 625-W08G | | - | 25 pin LPT connector, male | 1 | ??? | | - | Two "Clips" for 9V Batteries | 2 | 534-68 | +-------+---------------------------------------+-------+--------------------+ Not included: - Green Power LED - Yellow Vdd LED - Red Vpp LED - Two 9V batteries - 1:1 LPT cable (male/female)

Also which Mouser Schmitt Trigger should I order? This seems less straight forward than some of the others http://www.mouser.com/search/Refine.aspx?Ne=1447464+254016&Ntt=*595SN74HC14PWR*&Ntx=mode%2bmatchall&Mkw=595-SN74HC14PWR&N=1323038&Ntk=Mouser_Wildcards

Okay specific question: I got all the Mouser orders from Smash, but there's no PIC burner order list; So I'm building one. SO far so good as some parts are common with other modules, but there is one part I can't find on Mouser! | Transistor BC337 | 1 | BC 337-25 | 0.04 | 0.04 |
-
So can you get them at a fair price from Mouser than? If this is no good I'll move on, eBay doesn't seem very good for LEDs.
-
Okay, well, I certainly didn't know they were specific order names for the other site. I assumed the tracking would be done with the actual part name (because it's standardized and simple, right?). Anyhow I never thought that I couldn't do the searching, just that it'd be really time consuming and that I might possibly be able to do it more simply (that is the original purpose of the parts list isn't it?). Anyhow it appears that I can't use those parts list so easily (not a slight, I'm sure it works for others). Anyhow I didn't know about SmashTVs parts lists, I'll order from mouser than I guess. About the same as Digikey?

Is there anything wrong with these LEDs? They're so cheap! http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-SUPER-BRIGHT-8000MCD-RED-5MM-LED-X-1000pcs_W0QQitemZ190060750727QQihZ009QQcategoryZ66952QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

Yeah, but I am trying to buy all the parts for my Midibox. Soo, I can't just not bother buying these parts! Any recommendations? It seems like it's a rather uphill climb to do this with Digikey.

Here's what wasn't stocked: GS40P GS14 RT-10S 2.2K 1N4002 (OBSOLETE?) LM317 TO 92 UA 78L05 Z5U-2.5 RAD 100/35 RAD 10/63 B80C800RUND

Does anyone know how to manage Digi-Key quotes? Essentially I sent them one of the part order lists and they returned a quote with about 50% of the order as "not stocked." I'd include the pdf but it includes my personal information. Anyhow it was a standard MB parts order list (I can't remember which one, might be the core, might be the SID module) so I'm not sure how they couldn't stock them. Does anyone have lists with cross-referenced part numbers? I'd really like to order from Digi-Key because I'm not in Europe, I'm in montreal Canada.

stryd_one, like all Canadians I produce my own syrup, please tell me how much syrup you need to make a SEQ, SID and FM. Thanks.
-
Okay, but if I were to buy from digikey (seems to be your favorite) in bulk, would it end up being cheaper than smashTV (I'd get te PCBs from him still).
-
I was wondering if there were any Midibox people who live in Canada (especially Ottawa/Montreal) who have extra parts? I've heard of different people who buy extra parts for they box and might want to sell me the extra?? i'd be interested also to see a completed one if possible. Also I'd like to know the best place for a Canadian to buy the parts
-
Jidis, I'd really appreciate that! Thanks! i'd email you but your email is hidden, but you can email me if you like. Thanks very much for the help.

Fair enough, I'm still having problems searching the site to be honest. It's rather mixed up in my opinion. there's actually a few times now where I try to find something I already read about here and can't :P But for sure the LCD question was a little of a quick-draw, sorry about that one, I found that page about 15 minutes after I asked. Thanks very much, you're all very helpful.
