No problem Thorsten. Darn it! It still does not detect the burner though, but it appears to be able to control all my LEDs. Can you run it without it detecting the burner? Doesn't seem like it. I'd like to know what exactly it's checking in order to detect a burner anyhow. Any guesses?

Board with corrections: http://frozenzoo.com/mbhp_burner_v1_plusC.brd This doesn't mean it works mind you, but incorporates all the errors we've found (ground pour, reversed LED, disconnected R8).
-
Whoa, didn't know about jumpering R8 <<EDIT>> Jaicen -- "The free floating end of R8 just needs to be attached to the +5V rail to hold pin1 high" Wait, that makes no sense, R8 is attached to pin 3! This board has mucho problems. Also: My middle (yellow) LED is now working, it was backwards because it's backwards on the Eagle board layount. <<EDIT 2>> It looks like R8 just goes to the obvious place, there's a trace that doesn't quite make it to R8, in the non-super layout it goes all the way to R8, in the Super it doesn't. Also note that the LED is the correct way around in the non-super layout, and is wrong in the Super layout.

Reason why your voltage doesn't go high enough: your trimpot is probably 2k. check this site and put the resistor value (220) and then 2000Ohm for the trim and you'll see it maxes out. You need either a 2.2k or greater trim pot OR a smaller than 220 resistor. I realized this and had to solder two 100 Ohms in series to make it work, but it's fine now. oh wait, you realized that, sorry.

So you've actually built your Burner? That's great! I just hope I can get this thing going so I can move into step 2 of setting this whole system up. I'm also trying to get Windows 98 so that I can try and get the USB module working as well, so after I burn the PIC, I can upload MIOS.
-
Yeah, I actually used P18 just now and it does not see my burner. I can turn the VPP on, but not the VDD. I tried the lowest setting and cannot have it recognize my PIC either.
-
I built the MBHP Pic burner and I'm not sure if I can use P18, because I don't know German (at least enough to download the software). What programs is the burner compatible with?

Found out what it was, there was something wrong with the 78L05. I removed it and the LM317 worked fine. I then tested it on a breadboard and no orientation made it work (tried 4-5 different possibilities). So something was wrong with it. It's now replaced with a regular sized one and the whole circuit works, didn't know that could have affected the circuit!

Okay. So I got Windows 2000 in hopes of having it work there. I direct it to the correct folder and ... it fails! It finds the driver and says it's a better one than I have now, but then it fails once I click "next" stating: "a function driver was not specified for this device instance" ???

Oh, I forgot to thank you! Thanks very much Smash! It's much easier to design PCBS now.
-
Wow, that's awesome! Thanks very much, I'll try it out. Hey, I'm not so good at PCBs either, I just bought some random photo paper and have it soaking. I hope I do get good at this, because it's really empowering to be able to do this!
-
Way different X11??? It is indeed command+crtl click (command+left click) thanks Smash, tried it before, but my old trackpad program was probably preventing that. I am using Sidetrack now, which I think is good.
-
I'm not saying the product is not good, it's just that I can't afford it and the whole idea is to learn how to make them myself!!! I designed the PCB in Eagle and will be trying to etch it this week. I'm pretty certain the original Sawa version is just joining pin 1+2, not sure about the 3 others or how they join. Please let me know if you figure something out! I'm making the board no matter what anyhow.
-
Okay removed it and tested. Can group, but cannot group move, darn it. You' don't recommend another track pad program do you? I like Sidetrack but couldn't pay, and it's annoying with it's reminders.
-
Oh man, I guess I'll look around for a computer with windows 98. :-0
-
I tried looking if I could figure the pinout from the photo but I can't, so I guess I lose, but I'm not paying 20 euros to find out.
-
I saw that and don't. Why not just a pinout? I don't need directions for the how to solder it to the switch. And clearly there are PCB designs somewhere, not just silouettes. These are purposeful obfuscations.

I'm trying to build that guy's ring modulator-> BUT HE WON'T SAY HOW TO MAKE IT! He gives a schematic but there's a switch that uses 5 wires in a certain config that he won't tell me unless I buy his kit! I can't believe it. Take a look at his board design, it's just mean. http://m.bareille.free.fr/modular1/warp633/warp633.htm http://m.bareille.free.fr/modular1/warp633/warp633_implant_b.jpg

Yes that's what I have been doing. Mac OS X 10.4.9 X11 - The version says X11, but I'm pretty sure it auto updates so it's up-to-date. EAGLE - Most recent as of a week. One problem (possibly) - > iScroll2

Damn, re-read my post and : I assembled a test-circuit and the IC worked with no heat-up. Looks like the only difference is that diode.
-
I tried it too and was disappointed, it didn't find any hard to find parts that I was looking for. If you're looking for a 10k resitor it might help... but you don't need to price compare that, order it along with the other stuff and you'll save on shipping. It's a FANTASTIC idea though! We need that and a more reliable datasheet search as well (I always have problems if I'm harvesting parts). Eventually it might be a very useful tool.
-
That doesn't work, though I'm using it on Mac OS X through llinux windowing emulation.
-
No don't worry, I'm more frustrated with the burner and trying to get the voltages right. This is okay, it appears as if it might work eventually. Though I have a strange tendency to have horrible windows problems. I tried to make and Atmel burner and it does absolutely nothing, probably again because of my PC.

As if I didn't already have enough to do, Eagle is so incredibly engrossing! I put together a project with breadboard and it is such a pain, making my own protos makes 100x more sense. In the two days I've been using Eagle I've made a ring-modulator board, and I'll be on my way in making a sn76477 board for my chip in no time. Anyhow, does anyone know a simple method to just select a group of components and move them around as a group? I see the group command but have only gotten it to work with copying. Also I'd like to group delete things sometimes too,

Indeed TK, that's just enough to keep me going (on this module) instead of just thinking it's a wash. I'm feeling pretty low in the electronics department these days. And to think that I have to invent an art project using them within a few weeks (no midibox or synthesizers allowed!)
