  1. Bump! Im seriously thinking about buying one of those hakko clones, my old crappy 15w antex just isnt cutting it for me anymore.

    mine looks like this:

    HAK-93613P-a.jpg

and is a 60W iron, the same as a 936..... but the website shows them looking like this:

    http://www.aoyue.com/en/ArticleShow.asp?ArticleID=371

    and says theyre 35W

Is yours the aoyue brand Stryd?

The 936 is only 35W but the 936A model is the 60W version.

The other clones include a CSI-Station1A

    and the Kada 936D

I'm seriously thinking of buying the Kada, or else the Aoyue 936 from here

Both have free shipping, but the Aoyue is only the 35W version, and the Kada is the 60W version, its cheaper, and has a Numeric display for the selected temperature, (the led blinks once it reaches it).

Im really leaning towards the Kada more, ive ordered quite a few things from deal extreme before and find them reliable each time.

    What do you think?

  2. Let me know if I have permission. Additionally, are things like this only done through these forums or can I sell on ebay as well If I can't sell them here?

Pretty sure they are only done through the forum, as you know its a non-profit community,

and you could make profit if the bidding went high enough on ebay.

Unless of course you used buy it now, but then youd need to prove that you genuinely sold it for that price or whatever.

Anyways, all that aside, sorry to hear about your financial difficulty man.  :(

  3. If you want the easiest project, then go for the mb-6582.

Wilba designed 2 all-in-one pcbs - the base pcb, and the control surface pcb as shown in this pic:

    fetch.php?w=&h=&cache=cache&media=http%3A%2F%2Ffarm4.static.flickr.com%2F3177%2F2544929793_8a7743c953.jpg

This requires far less wiring, and removes the need of getting your own front panel made,

provided you wait for Doug to make them, and all goes ahead as planned.

(Not to mention, buying a c64 just to use its case)

If you still want to go for a c64 case style MIDIbox, then you should still consider buying Wilbas Base PCB,

and base parts kit (which you can buy from Smash TV), so there will be less wiring to do for core, sid, input, output modules, psu etc...

You will then end up with something like Thorsten's...

    midibox_sid_v2_inside.jpg

Subatomic built one in that style also, and has really helpful, in-depth information of the whole build process on his blog.

    Check that one out here:

  4. Did this work? I´m just about to make an opt 64psu and might copy this if it´s ok :) Getting a bit dizzy trying to follow the lines here..

haha, didnt solder it fully yet!

Instead of using a spot face cutter, im using a stanley blade now as suggested to cut through the tracks.

This will allow to have the 3 pins of the Voltage Regulator in line, instead of having to bend them.

So the circuit could be modified so theres no gap between the Positive and GND pins of the 5v line,

so you could throw in a Dil Header, instead of 2 SIL headers, one gap apart.

If you need any help with it im glad to help.

Are you using a special protoboard like i am?

  5. Okay, i did have a c64 and there is the nostalgia element there.

I havent built a midibox sid yet, but from hearing the online demos,

and comparing them to my Novation KS-4, (my first and only current synth)

i must say that the SID chip sounds so much warmer, and has more life to it, its got this really nice kick in the balls about it.

Its like it sounds more emotional, and my VA synth sounds more cold.

I guess it could be the fact one is digital and one is analog thats the reason, but i honestly think the sid is so much more appealing to me.

  6. thank you for that farnell suggestion

for the price those knobs cost, i might as well try them if i cant find anything better

on the other hand, i just found a perfect knob on my midi keyboard (CME UF8). rubber soft touch. will look out for those.

I just noticed there that its the data entry wheel, i never noticed those LED's before.

    http://www.breun.nl/images/CME_UF_5.jpg

I wonder can it be used with vsts etc.. like the behringer BCF/BCR, as in the LED ring updates with the knob on screen.  ???

  7. Heh, exactly.

OT Yes I do think a search box for ucapps.de would be nice. You can use google to restrict the search to ucapps.de now, but a button would be good.

Two issues with that - one, there aren't that many pages, if you need to search you probably didn't browse enough ;) Two, TK has often spoken of migrating the ucapps doco to the wiki, as new wiki pages are created which include/replace the info on ucapps. We just need more doco volunteers.

    heh.

If the docs were migrated to the wiki they would have to be locked from public editing i guess.

:/ I just realise even the main page can be edited publicly (well regged members anyway)

I wonder is there a quick and easy way of converting html to wiki, using an add and replace function,

or using a script of some sort.

Now, what other suggestions can i throw in your face.....hmmmmm

How about a RTFM! link at the start of your sig?  :D

  8. Search, RTFM.

No no! Do it the other way round!!!!

Out of curiosity I was searching the forum and the wiki like a mofo,

trying to figure out if you had to use an AIN to do this with v2 and couldnt find out,

then i RTFM! and it was all there in front of my eyes, in glorious detail!  :P

Actually i was just thinking, what do you think of the idea of having a search function for uCapps too?

Even just say a google search box on the frame or something?  :)

  9. TK after reading your replies and also the STM32 page,

I would just like to point out once again that your accomplisments never cease to amaze and inspire me, and so many others....

by how you keep pushing the metaphorical "envelope",

Constantly adding what seems like an infinite range to its "decay" and "sustain" level...

by having such a clinical,  dedicated and optimal work ethic,

Kicking the MIDIbox concept further into the future than i can ever imagine.

It is this amazingly kind, selfless and passionate  attitude that makes me realise how beautiful a thing humanity is, and can be.

And this is also dedicated to all the other key MIDIBox players who work their asses off, to help this community reach its full potential.

Observing this sense of community spirit has warmed my heart  many times, and i just felt like expressing my gratitude to help make ye more  aware of the positive impact ye have on peoples lifes  and their music.

BTW - I'm completely sober writing this,  (maybe hard to believe due to my nationality ;) ) drugs inclusive

i'm  just high on that MIDIbox Love.  :)

  10. i have a newly acquired Novation KS 4 myself, and it would be a godsend to use that for controlling an unfinished MBSid.

In my manual there's a look up chart for the NRPNs recieved/transmitted.

I suppose its the same for yours, and it would be a matter of modifying the MB-Sids implementation Chart to make the NRPNs recieved compatible?    ???

I'll have to go searching now to see if its simply a matter of editing something like an .asm file, like when you want to modify the default Control surface or if its a more complicated matter involving programming.

  11. My apologies for not spotting that first time sound seppo. I was/am viewing the forum on my phone so that didnt help either.

    pS whoa  :o

That is some heavy sid usage there, its my first time hearing what trully can be done with a lot of sids - leads and pads wise i mean, not forgetting TKs poly demos.

A video demo would probably max out matrixsynths bandwidth for the month!    :P

  12. The C64's used different versions of the SID chip throughout their life cycle :

    6581, 6582, 8580

The chip will have the # on it right on top so you can tell which version you have. If you're going to make a stereo SID, you need to have 2 chips of the same version. You can't mix a 6581 SID with an 8580 SID. So when you open up your old C64's, check to see if they both are of the same version.

    Are you sure?

I'm pretty sure all you need to do is make sure you have to correct Voltage Regulator,

in each sid module, and you could have any 2 sid chips in a stereo setup then.

Sure the instructions received from the core are the same for all sids.

    Nah that one's for flash.

    Just shows a link tho...

Smithy if you POLITELY send a PM to twin-x, he'll put it on his lengthy to-do list. But be patient cause twinny's workload here is even higher than you'd expect. We're high-maintenance, it seems :D

Ah cool, i didnt know which of ye had full admin rights to the forum control panel. Polite PM sent.  ;)

    Will send it now!
