  1. Thanks cimo! You have the heart of a viking :) The link doesn't seem to work though
  2. I'm wondering actually how many Danish people are building MIDIBoxes?? .. and where they get their parts from :) The two only shops i know of is Brinck and RS components in Copenhagen, where i live Brinck elektronik (besides Nørreport station) I find them to be pretty expensive and often quite misguiding as in 'no we dont have those diodes, but these are just as good' which they allways turn out NOT to be, hehe.. i still use them for shopping wire and other smaller stuff though, but only if im' 100% sure on what i need ... i don't take advice from these guys no more ;) RS components (besides Nørrebro station) Wicked website with thousands of nice parts, pleasant and helpfull service.. What they don't have in stock they will get you... i found PICs, displays, knobs, encoders, tactile switches, pt-10 cases and every kind of discrete components at reasonable costs. They even give a discount when buying 5 or 10 of the same item, so it may be a good for Copenhagen-based MIDIBoxers to hook up and buy our stuff together :) I'd like to know about other Danes' favorite shops, and offcourse the goal of shopping locally would be to avoid shipping costs, taxes, fees, moms, handling expenses and other expenses (often calculated by PostDanmark ;))
  3. Same story with me.... i could play for hours, but if i turned it of and on again i would get resets galore... waiting ½ an hour i could power on again without resets
  4. Sounds a lot like my problem, heat... does the voltage regulator on the core get hot?? Now i bypass the vreg and the rectifier using 5V from a C64 PSU, works perfect :)
  5. ...but nILS :) "someone" posted about it in the forum http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,12943.msg109816.html#msg109816
  6. I experience the same behaviour actually.... if i transmit a patch to buffer my MIDI interface is flashing, indicating that data is sent. But if i transmit to memory no flashing occurs and the patch does not change. I know it worked for me in the last version... i have a fucked up practicing patch that definately suffers from my experiments, so data has surely been transmitted in the past :) I use a single 512 bankstick
  7. I myself is also pretty scared of CS step C :) i just have no clue, hehe... i will start out with step A to get some practise and later on i will upgrade to step C @Rosch - i think our ideas is somehow different. I would not use LEDs or buttons as the knobs parameter and value is allready on the screen... like this ----------------------- | Dly Atk Dec Sus Rel | o ----------------------- o o o o o So if i want to adjust sustain i can just tweak the 4th knob instead of having to push the 4th button and THEN adjust sustain by using the single encoder to the right of the display. This way i could also adjust both Atk and Rel simultaneously... now i have to push the Atk button, adjust with encoder, push Rel button and adjust encoder.. But i'm not even sure it's possible without severe knowledge about MIOS programming :) it might just be another one of my goofy ideas
  8. Thanks for all your efforts in making the MBSID editor!! It's a lovely piece of software, and i look forward to play with your polyphonic patches also :) I haven't spent that much time exploring my MBSID to start doing my own patches yet (still building) but i surely will.... i do a lot of different genres though so it might end up being a pretty uneven bunch. But first i need to get familiar with the structure of the synth, hehe... messing around with the 128 vintage patches none of them seems to react on velocity, but that can very well be yet another a screwup from my side :) nILS mentioned a few days ago that he was looking into some online patchsharing concept. Such a thing will definately be easier to use than surfing a long thread for attachments...
  9. Thankyou very much Thorsten!! I uploaded the update this morning using the new MIOSStudio beta 8.3 and everything seems fine :) The drums really does sound better. rc27 was the first version i ever tried on my newborn babybox so i had no idea that some drumsounds was wrong until now ;)
  10. What i meant was, instead of having to press the first button in order to manipulate the first parameter on the display using the encoder, i would much rather just turn the respective encoder.... no assigning nothing to any knobs :) so to say, the 5 buttond beneath the LCD would be encoders instead.... which function they have is dictated by the text in the display. I'm not even sure it's possible but i'll have a go at it when i'm more experienced with messing with the source I was not trying to persuade you :) go for what you like best!! You will be the user of it so i think it's very important that the CS suits your taste and needs
  11. I thought of using encoder with push-button too... my Micron synth has such a pushbutton encoder, which is pretty annoying but still very welcome considering the small amount of controls on it generally - i may feel the same about minimal surface for MBSID; a pushbutton extra could never hurt :) you can decide for yourself what function it should have.. did you have a look at the 'setup_*.asm'-file?? there you can easily see what parameters could be assigned to the pushbutton You could also just not connect it to avoid clicking it by accident... My first hope was to change the 5 buttons under the LCD with encoders - It would be nice with more knobs, it's easier to have direct access to the menu parameters... but i'd have to do some serious changes in the firmware which i'm pretty sure i won't be able to manage for now
  12. I had no luck with MIDIO128.. i got a lot of 'note on' and 'note off's with velocity pretty much fixed around 128, 64 and 0 :) But i think i'm sorta sorted out, hehe.. playing with my forcep and experimenting with the 8580 sourcecode gave me a pretty good feel for the available possibilities. Right now i think i'll go for a simple minimal surface with SID L/R selector instead of core selector (it's only a 1core stereo box) and if i manage to hook up 2 respective LEDs to jp5 of the core i will be pretty satisfied with the result considering it's my first build :)
  13. Nice :) though the only clue i've dug out is a mention of an app called 'ain64_din128_dout128_v2_0' on this page http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=changing_din_pins' I'll have a look at MIDIO128 ;)
  14. I've been playing with my baby SID box for a few days without experiencing any problems. I'm more than happy and somehow ready to go on, so i connected my DINx4 (from Mike) to my core. Using a forcep i can now surf the menus of the synth :) it's pretty hard though, not knowing pin numbers and being totally unfamiliar with the menu layout in general. I try to refer to the sourcecode to guess the pins, but it's not the best way, i know :) But i think i recall seeing a MIOS application that showed the pin number in the display when activated?? i looked around but it's not in the MIOS download section... was i dreaming or did such an app actually exist ??
  15. Looks nice, with Atari joystick and all :) man, i love those arcade buttons!!!!
  16. Wow!! I really need to arrange my stuff into a studio-setup too. It looks good, and it's a lot more intuitive to sit down and make some sounds - now when i start up i have to setup everything, cables everywhere and what now :( What is that thing to the right with the arcade-machine-looking buttons ???
  17. Yeay Labelwhore.. i found your post, compiled it and it looks just like the MB6582 file - i get line 1/2 on line 2/3 instead, and still no parameters or menu.... but i guess it will help if i get some control surface. Looking at the famous video here i can see that the MB6582 also only utilizes line 2/3 to start off with. When a knob is tweaked it will go to the menu screen... I'd really love such behavior from the LCD on my lovely new baby SIDbox :)
  18. YESS MAMA :) Stryd, thanks a lot man!!!! The 'overwrite-the-dll-file-with-a-rebased-one'-trick was all i had to do... I uploaded a new version of the 8580 hex with 4 lines enabled, but still i only see the two initial lines. I guess it's neccesary to have at least some kind of button to press on the synth to get to see the parameters on the lower two lines then ???? .... i'll have to be patient then, dusting off my first build, a DINx4 from Mike's shop and get some buttons up'n running And yes, i love Supernova II too :) it's the rack version though, but it's fantastic especially in it's effect section. The sound is really polished (sounds almost japanese :)) i think it's the best synth that Novation made!
  19. Man :) I own a Micron too!!! what a coincidence... both Micron-owners using FL, and midiboxing. Hmm, you should by any chance not own a Supernova II, a Virus rack classic and a Kaosillator too ;)
  20. This is the error i get from MSYS C:\msys\1.0\postinstall>PATH ..\bin;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\Sy stem32\Wbem C:\msys\1.0\postinstall>..\bin\sh.exe pi.sh AllocationBase 0x0, BaseAddress 0x715B0000, RegionSize 0x150000, State 0x10000 C:\msys\1.0\bin\sh.exe: *** Couldn't reserve space for cygwin's heap, Win32 erro r 6 C:\msys\1.0\postinstall>pause Press any key to continue . . . It's kinda the same error i get when i try to compile.. anyone has a clue how to tame MSYS into submission ?? The other programs seems to install just fine, but still no 4-line LCD joy for me!
  21. I have no luck installing MSYS :( even before the 'y/n' DOS prompt i get another prompt with a pair of error messages... I'll have to try on my girlfriend's laptop tomorrow
  22. Yeah, i'm a reborn C64 enthusiast :) and SIDaholic, and i have several C64s with different SIDs modded for music making using the new MIDI soft/hardware called MSSIAH. My childhood computer was the C64 and i love the SID sound! I have been lurking here in these pages a lot of times the last few years, but now i couldn't hold back anymore :) so i just recently managed to build a stereo MB SID which turned out to be one of my most satisfying achievements in a long time ;)
  23. Man, i really want to do that!!! ... but i have no control surface yet :( Oooh ;) preset 16 in the 'vintage bank' is just fine i see..
  24. Well i use FL too, almost every day :) i have no problem using NRPNs, it works fine even using the normal 'MIDI out' channel generator. I often setup filter cut and reso in this manner to play with the filter on presets. If a real 'panel' was built for FL it would sure hold more controls and sport a better layout, and a VST would be the perfect solution :) if the rumors nILS is referring to are true i will be happy as hell!!!! NRPNs in FL is really a pleasant experience... please let me know if i can assist you in any way :)
  25. Thanks :) i think i can manage to compile myself, but i'm afraid it will take a while to figure out ;) so i hoped someone had done such a hex before that i could just smooch off of, hehe.... well, no time to whine :) i just have to give it a go!
