Recap for now, maybe a modern switcher later on. I think I'll also replace the tantalums on the analogue board.

It has the RS422 upgrade, so I'm after a vintage Mac now....

    4. gslug

      gslug

Lots of tosty resistors and the remains of a tantalum in the PSU. More than just a recap...

  2. "Finished" the Seq. Broke one spacer off the panel, but the rest seem fine. Still need a back panel.

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

      Now you're going places!

    2. gslug

      gslug

Added a buffer board for DINSYNC and part of the LCD module for pretty lights.... Trying to work out why only half of said lights work.

  3. Just finished building a CV. Still have the Seq to complete and there is a package waiting for me at the post office...

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

      Must build one more... :D

    2. gslug

      gslug

Or rebuild. The mixer refurb is up next.

  4. moar JB-Welding on the Seq and wiring up the CV.

  5. Is JB-Welding....

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

      Choice activity! What's cookin'?

    2. gslug

      gslug

The Seq is getting a proper case.

    3. jojjelito

      jojjelito

      Totally worth it.

Order done on Wednesday... Still waiting, 5 days later... I'm closer to their warehouse than anyone else chatting here. USPS IS REALLY bad! (at least my post office.. Packages literally disappear for days here.. Maybe Im on some sort of list, and 'the man' is inspecting all of my boxes personally for me, or something..)

    3. gslug

      gslug

      Arrived yesterday.

@Wicked1: It isn't just USPS - Royal Mail can be pretty good at loosing things for days or even months...

    4. wicked1

      wicked1

      Yay, finally just got them.

The 4006's are each in their own static proof bag with static warnings all over them, and then all of those are put in one of Mousers standard anti-static mylar bags. Guess they know these cips are extra sensitive.

  9. is laying out PCBs.

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Awesome! What are building? PCB layout = honest work.

PSUs and a combined Din x1, gate buffer and bankstick board for MIDIbox CV.

  10. Last week analogue, this week digital. Just got a DX7. Still can't stop playing with the JP-6 though.

      Looking for a CR-78 now.

Building mode. Can't buy more gear until Autumn... Oh the humanity!

      technobreath

hehe J. I miss my stolen dx7. If I knew who took it from me someone's balls would roll ;).

  11. haz Jupiter, but no time to play with it. Off to work in a bit.

      gslug

Too much GAS - I was going for a Sequential Six Track and then a JP-6 started calling me....

    3. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Jupiter 6 is a very *very* nice synth! Get the Europa kit if you can :D

    4. gslug

      gslug

I intend to fit Europa at some point, but first I have other projects to finish....

  13. has almost finished a flanger, only to run out of jacks and switches. Arrgh.

same problem for me, but then i strategically invested in chewing gum and watched a few macgyver howtos... :)

    3. gslug

      gslug

Haha! I miss Macgyver. Might have to invest in some DVDs...

    4. jojjelito

      jojjelito

I'm saving my Macgyver moments until it's life or death. On the other hand, I now have this huge stash...

  14. has just built a Boss CE-2 clone. Needs moar effects!

      also investigate Jomox T-Resonator time-space-matrix warper :)

    3. Brathering

      Brathering

I can hardly advise a bitcrusher.

Don't find a good diy solution yet, but have lend an OTO Biscuit from a friend recently and if they aren't counted ~500€ I've buy one instantly!

The "Hexe Bitcrusher" looks good as well, but don't test so far.

Maybe a good "diy-group-project" for the future(!?)

    4. gslug

      gslug

Thanks! The Mutron Bi-Phase looks cool.....

and the T-Resonator looks scary! As for a bitcrusher - I wonder if I could use a Shtruthi-1 with digital filter board.

  15. is ordering parts: Quad IIc, AoutNG, core 32 and MN3007/MN3101 ICs.

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Hmm, it sounds like someone will build some serious hardware :)

    2. gslug

      gslug

Not really - it is for three seperate builds.

    3. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Good! Then you have projects in the pipe and all is well :)

  16. haz Shruthi

Thinking about doing a flanger next. I have just finished a Gristleizer and a PT2339-based delay.

    3. Schrabikus

      Schrabikus

@Jojjelito - they are quite cheap

      $4 for MN3007+3101 @ebay $10 for V3205+MN3102 @utsouce.net

    4. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Oh! Thanks! Gonna do a Mutron bi-Phase clone at least! Have to browse what's out there... :)

  18. has just built a MIDIpal. First ever SMT soldering and I didn't make too much of a mess of it....

      Schrabikus

Good practice is desoldering/soldering chips from old soundcards for example, or any other broken hardware.

    3. Gilesjuk

      Gilesjuk

OPL board has a little SMT.

    4. gslug

      gslug

Schrabikus - Hadn't thought about that. I have a box of old PCI cards.

Gilesjuk - I'm on the list for the next (last?) batch of sammichFMs, so OPL will happen at some point.

  19. Is putting together a parts order for his next build.

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Ohh, the best phase except for all resistors and caps... The rest is just work until it's done.

    2. gslug

      gslug

Parts arrived and it I messed up and ordered one wrong pot. Need to think of something else to buy to make the Farnell minimum order......

    3. gslug

      gslug

Want to build now. Have parts but lacking in the PCB department. "Delivery failed due to lack of time" on Friday - so why didn't they even bother trying today?

  20. is listening to the musical sound of 4 hard disks churning away as his RAID array resyncs...

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Array rebuilds are slow. Where's my 10TB SSD for 1000€ or less?

    2. gslug

      gslug

It took 24 hours and yup, SSDs are still way too expensive.

  21. has finally finished wiring up the pots on his 9090. It all works!

      gslug

Thanks. Took longer than planned - I did board 1 a few weeks ago, but the crimping got to me after a while. Board 2 seemed a lot quicker.

    4. gslug

      gslug

I'll try to do a video in the next few days. Be warned that the 9090's "case" is somewhat crude....

And it felt like a stage set

    2. gslug

      gslug

Ha. Ha. Gotta love a bit of John Foxx.

  23. has just finished building a x0xb0x. Quick and easy compared to the 9090.

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Yay! Congrats on the completion of a fun instrument!

    2. gslug

In today's vernacular: It's sexy and you know it.

You know you wanna. Modular fun is the next level on the analogue learning curve.

    3. gslug

      gslug

It has to be done, though may be a while off. I have to finish the 9090 and build a x0xb0x first. Oh and actually record something.....

      Your modular looks amazing BTW.

    4. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Ooh, thanks! Still some struggles with the front panel wiring, then - music!

  25. wants a hardware sampler.....

    1. jojjelito

      jojjelito

E-mu esynth rules the roost unless you score an Akai 6000 or z8...

    2. gslug

      gslug

Quite like the idea of an Ensoniq EPS+

    3. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Ahh. That oldie but goodie... ASR-10/X is nice and cheap otherwise.
