punkdISCO
Hi all I was having a sniff around and came across this link. I was surprised to see my 6581 might be a fake or damaged stock. My SID says on it: 6581R4AR 2282 with the underside saying: "TAIWAN GH262103" This gives my SID a date of 22 week in 1982. The site says this: "obvious fake- the R4AR didn't come out until mid '86!" So, is my SID a fake? It appears to work okay. Sure, the filter is not as powerful as my 8580R5 and, I can not mix the waveforms which is a "feature" of the 6581. Surprisingly I got it from a reputable source.. ta, Paul
nILS
Fake != remarked. Apparently SIDs get cleaned and remarked a lot.
Brathering
As long as all work as it should and they're labled right I would not realy care about if they "remarked" or not! :-)
Altitude
I have some of those R4 ones that look bunk but I tested them all and they seem fine..
punkdISCO
I have some of those R4 ones that look bunk but I tested them all and they seem fine.. Yeah, I have done some pretty hardcore testing of this one chip since first posting and it is defo 100% functional. I just thought it was strange to have an incorrect date stamp (4 years too early). thanks for all the replies.. Appreciated..
