Oakley MIDI bassline

http://www.oakleysound.com/tm3030.htm

Snag - some of the chips are expensive and awkward to get

Plus - very stable and authentic.

Mike

Edited to add:

Just done an inventory of what I've bought PCB's in for: a case of grab them whilst they're available. The result is a bit scary...... I had a rush with some money I had around Christmas, and managed a few 'last chance' deals...

Apart from a bunch of MIDIbox stuff

There is:

A Ray Wilson Soundlab

A Ray Wilson Analogue sequencer

A Trevor Paige 9090

A P3 sequencer (well, the boards are on the way - I got lucky with one of Sequentix's last spare sets)

A Thomas Henry SN Voice.

I keep scanning the Elby designs site, because I really want a Monowave and perhaps an ASM2.

Then there is the AVRx which I really like the look of, though fortunately they haven't released the board yet.

and having had a tidy out, I found some stuff from the 80's I'd kept, assembled but un-cased, 2 E&Mm 'Syntoms' and 2 'Synwaves', and some stuff I can't fgure out yet.

....... My name is Mike and I am a Synth addict.....

thanks for all the links guys.  you must be having fun with these devices :).

i built that sound lab mini synth (actually, ray's weird sound generator was my first electronics project) but it's not entirely completed.  i didn't care for it so much as a synth and now i have a roland v-synth xt so i'm not sure what i'll do with it.  perhaps i'll turn it into the guitar trigger and give it to my guitarist friend who really likes to tweak his sounds.

i'll usually get a couple of projects going at once.  my next is to build the magic midi delay into the same rack module as seb's 4xd (http://burnit.co.uk/sdiy/index.php?page=4xd).  i'm hoping to fit all this into a 1u module but it'll probably end up being 2.  my only setback is i don't know anything about pic programming or sending out to have pcbs made but i guess this all can be learned.

the 1 bit groovebox looks cool.

dj3nk:  i'm a bit confused as to what the drum trigger is.  could you describe it in your own words please?

Hey Prof,

I'm seriously considering getting one of those Oakleys. Can you give me an indea of the total projected cost for all the misc components beside the main PCB?? Maybe I can add that to my looooong list of other projects.

Currently i'm working on: *deep breath*

A pimped up C64 with 8580 and 6581 to use with Prophet64, 2 x Dual MBSID's (Got SID's & Pic's ;D), DR-110 MIDI sync, TR-505 bends & pitch mod, custom guitar build with internal effects, fuzz and octave divider effects for internal guitar mounting for someone else, and custom mods on a GA-5 amp. On top of all that, there's a studio to re-arrange and treat, a synth repair service for some local bands and a full time job (+ Girlfriend time) and househunting.

Maybe I should slow down...  ::)

Hi

dj3nk:  i'm a bit confused as to what the drum trigger is.  could you describe it in your own words please?

The Edrum is a very nice Project which u can Play drums with a computer or a sampler...

Just (lol) build the Edrum-controlbox, some pads for toms/bells/hihat etc...put this via Midi/serial into your pc and get a drumtrigger-program like "Drumkit from Hell" etc.....with Reason (NN-XT-Sampler) it also works...I tested this cause im still on the endphase to finish this awesome project ;)

My other Non-Midibox Projects are .....

This Midi-Patchbay -> http://m.bareille.free.fr/mpb3/mpb3.html

3 19" PC-Cases (1 for Midi-PC, 1 Internet/Programming, 1 the Mainbrain  ;D )

1 19" Rack

other :

many, many Blacklight Fluoro-Dekorations for Psychedelic (Goa) parties :

Mushrooms, Fantasy Wood, Flowers, Unicorn, Dope-Smokin Gozilla  ;D

and more,Pics coming soon  :)

Regards

MTE

oh ok.  i have an m-audio trigger finger and a couple samplers so i guess a drum trigger wouldn't be necessary.

Unless you wanna drum well ;) heheheh

I do like those fingerpad MPC stylee things but they're no replacement for drum triggers, more like an alternative to using a piano keyboard to program....

Arg, I was going to make a 1bitgroovebox but it completely failed. I built an Atmel ISP and it never ever worked out, I tried it on a lot of computers but it just failed everytime. It wasn't my parport because I burned a PIC using that parport.

I even built a whole bread-board for my 1-bitgroovebox but it was all for nothing. Big waste of time.

Planning on building a ring modulator next.

Hey Prof,

My estimates in UK pounds:

Resistors, including 0.1% ones, from Rapid, about £5

Capacitors, £7

Ordinary semiconductors, diodes tranistors CMOS Logic etc  £11

Pots and trimmers £8

Tempco resistor from Oakley, £4

Specialist chips £35

My guess is around £80 - £90 overall. Then you'll need a case, hardware and main supply, though a wall wart is fine.

This needs a little explaining. You might get the specialist stuff cheaper - I haven't bought them - all some were from the bits box, and some are temporary pending a final decison . The THAT300p is only available from Profusion in the UK at £6.98, min order 2, plus VAT and Carriage, I'm still trying to track some 2SC1583 Dual transistors for comparison. I'm doing a bulk buy of 1% 0.25w metal film resistors for a whole bunch of things at once, including a 9090 and a Soundlab, so I've priced resistors at £1.80/100. I had to 'guesstimate' a bit, because of this.

The parts list is available on the Oakley site. I can verify that the PCB is 1st class.

Rapid seem to be the best for a lot of the parts, though tracking some Alpha pots in the values Rapid don't have is proving a bit tricky, without paying Banzai's prices - though they aren't bad, I just resent paying over £1 for something I buy in other values for less that 50p, (currently got stock pots on wires).

If you are in the UK, and are going to do one, let me know and I can perhaps get a better deal on some of the more specialist bits.

Hope this helps

Mike
