Not sure if I'm ready to set a bulk order state-side as I am sooo new to this, but might consider it. I think combining an LED/Encoder order would be even smarter given the number of LEDs that will be required for this. Perhaps just ordering a BO for the kit components and splitting them would be the best way to bring the price down for chips/leds/encoders. Thoughts? Will start a discussion on that if necessary.

Hey jojjelito, I started a thread at Mutable since I couldn't find your post, though I did see it. Would love to see this get to over a 100 pcbs for another price break. Also, think we should consider a bulk order from Mouser or otherwise US side for encoders to get a big price break. Regular breaks are around 10,25,50,100 pieces and the price can drop significantly in those numbers. Also started a thread at monome.org to advertise this.

I finished building my first midibox project, an LPC core w/ SeqV4L last night. I installed the firmware and get a strange pattern when plugging it in that goes from top to bottom and back or so, but only down one half of the Sequencer FP. Eventually it stops and the device doesn't seem to respond to any button presses after this. Sometimes, if I press Play before the pattern stops it sometimes responds to a press or two for a moment but then stops. I know the lights work on the left side but they don't go through the full pattern. Additionally, there is another pattern that plays down the left and rightmost 5 columns of each side. If anyone has ideas about this behavior I would appreciate the help. Also, is there an actual guide for using the SeqV4L somewhere. I know that much of the Seq functionality is here but don't really have any idea where to start. Btw, @smashtv, excellent kit!

I've just finished building the SeqV4L and my first LPC Core. I seem to have successfully loaded the firmware but when I start up the seq (I have no SD Card connected yet) it lights up after about 5 seconds as mentioned on the info page and then does a strange cycle, mostly just down the right half of the FP. It will then cycle the leftmost five leds from top to bottom then the rightmost from top to bottom, do some other lights then nothing. Sometimes when I hit play it will act as though its starting something buit eventually stops lighting up and doesn't seem to respond. I can't really figure out how to even get started with it.

I think the comment above about many instruments being digital whether on a PC/Mac/Linux 'VST' or on a DSP chip in a piece of hardware is something that often gets lost in this conversation. One difference is that our current capabilities for modeling or creating/manipulating sound are vastly different from years ago. Notice I say vastly different, not necessarily better. Personally, I think in many ways they are better. However it depends on the functionality one is seeking. I like VSTs because of the choices. From a true hearing standpoint, the human ear is capable of great accuracy to a degree. Many of the differences we think we hear are psychological. That said, some people with a history of careful listening really can pick up on differences. Whatever we grow up with is what we often emotionally relate to and that is what we often desire. Growing up in the hybrid analog/digital world I can appreciate both sides of this argument. I'm so much of a throwback for my love of electromechanical instruments but I think it has as much to do with my purely mechanical/electrical interest as the beauty of their sound. SImilarly, some sounds digitally created are absolutely beautiful but even they relate back to soundwaves. Here is the ultimate point of all of this. In the end, every sound we produce is analog in that is heard through our ears which are not digitally interpreting the sound but instead are receiving and interpreting a constant, continuous stream of fluctuating data. Whether the sound is produced on a Moog/Oberheim/Roland from the 70s or 80s or an Arturia/NI/Insert VST here, they come to our ears as waves, beautiful analog waves.

Curious about this, can the Core8 be used for a MidiCV? More specifically, can it be used with the larger NG module? I now have the mutable Anushri which takes CV so it would be nice to have something like this.

Thanks Northern. I had a bit of a rough night last night and had figured I might have taken your post wrong. I've been lurking here longer than I have been on. Musical boxes have reinvigorated a childhood interest that began with Forrest Mimms books and an era when Radio Shack actually carried lots more electronics hobby stuff and has ended up here. I'll look into a pic programmer like what you and rosch have mentioned. Edit: I can't find any programmer pcbs at SmashTV, if anyone has a good link, I'll keep looking but any links for reliable setups would be great.
