  1. Heh, that's signature gold.
  2. Yep. So why did I say a pair? Because ... uhm .... actually I don't know!
  3. Bingo, that's what I've done. You can get the medical ones in mega big boxes for mega cheap. Unfortunately, mine's only sitting next to a mere hakko clone. hehehe I didn't get into contact transfer at all, I kinda assumed everyone knew about that, sorry!... But the flux fumes, I know nothing about whatsoever... What's the deal with flux anyway, isn't it mildly acidic?
  4. My guess is overheating them during soldering... Hey toneburst you can drop a pair of diodes in there instead... They should be in your local store by the 1000's :)
  5. Lord knows what happened to it, as has been said, TK has coded in safeguards against any problems during uploads... But if it doesn't send an upload request at all, and the same core works fine with another PIC, it might be time to re-burn the bootloader onto the pic. Edit: Beware - your core module might be faulty and frying PICs. I take no responsibility if the new PIC gets fried too! ;)
  6. OMFG what a nightmare. I thought that kinda sh*t only happened to me! Hang in there dude....
  7. I wouldn't risk it mate
  8. Oh no I don't use the filter for extraction, that's a scrubber, I have a big 20" fan blowing the air outside through the laundry adjacent to the lab. The active carbon is just about pulling as much of the lead out of the smoke as possible, cause it's cumulative, and the birds and bugs outside are cool :)
  9. Ouch :o Ahh guys you're missing the most important thing about lead... It's a cumulative poison. This means that when you take it in, it stays there and builds up over time. Now, what you breathed in while soldering today may not leave you with any ill-effect whatsoever, and you might think that you're fine... But after doing that so many times, you will reach a dangerous level of lead in your body, and can have some really serious effects like coma, brain damage, reduced IQ, infertility, cancer, etc. If you're feeling ANY effect of breathing in solder, like tingly lips etc, chances are that you also just breathed in a stack of lead. Seriously, if you're soldering in an unventilated room without a fan sucking the fumes through a carbon filter I reckon you're completely nuts. No offense intended, I'm probably talking to 90% of the forum :) Don't be cheap, go buy a soldering fan ;)
  10. Yeh I think you can delete threads that you start?
  11. Yeh it's a 3v SRAM IC and I was thinking that maybe the synth runs a higher voltage internally... General concensus seems to be that it's that SOT23-5 VREG, thanks guys!
  12. I can kill a c64 or two dude... I'll have a go tomorrow night
  13. Geez :( Sounds like the SID module not the PSU ... Might wanna check that for dud components and solder joints and shorts too?
  14. That's exactly what I said fluke :) I feel much more confident thinking that now. I do have a pic of both sides of the board, but unfortunately the components obscure the tracks, so it's very hard to tell what is wired to where :( I think this guy might have to desolder his existing board in order to find out.... PS Hey I dig the new signature LOL
  15. Yeh true, it's hardly worthy of a patent is it...
  16. Thanks Jaicen.... From what I gather, they use the standard windows USB MIDI driver which isn't multi-client capable :( I could be wrong about that though?
  17. Hi all, I hope that someone could give me some advice. I'm fast realising that I could really use a basic midi interface on one of my PCs for testing and such... I would need it to have a multi-client driver for winXP, and nothing too special, the cheaper the better. I only need one or two ports, I'd imagine that anything more would be costly. If anyone knows of such a thing, I'd love to hear about it! Thanks!
  18. interesting :)
  19. Hey midiboxers, I am reallly hoping that one of you might be able to ID this part. It's labelled 'H4K' and appears to be 5 pins, maybe 6 with one cut, in an SMD package. This is from an SRAM based memory expansion for a synth if that helps at all.... Thanks in advance!!
  20. Ahh thanks anyway man :) I should be clear though - I'm not really after a way to split the shipping with others, I'm actually thinking that I will pay the bulk of the shipping, and then others only have to pay the extra for their rolls. For eg... Let's say it's $16 for 1 roll, $20 for two rolls, and $23 for three... The person who buys the third roll gets it for $3 shipping, because I am already paying the $20 for the first two regardless of how many anyone else gets.. There's no material advantage to me, I guess my reasoning is, if I have to pay all this stupid money to ship ($6 for solder...$20 to get it in my hands!?!), I might as well make sure more than one person can benefit from it.
  21. I was worried that importing the lead solder might be disallowed because of ROHS? I really have no clue, but I thought I should check.... WTF is up with RoHS anyway? heh
  22. Hip hip, hooray! Hip hip, hooray! Hip hip, hooray! Happy Birthday TK and thanks for everything dude! Oh in case you're wondering: HBDTY HBDTY HBDTTK HBDTY: Happy Birth Day To You Happy Birth Day To You Happy Birth Day To TK Happy Birth Day To You
  23. Nice! No point release update? No V1.1a? ;)
  24. In case you're wondering, yes, fluke has gone crazy. ;)
