Thanks Wilba. Yeh I was looking at the mechanics of the springloaded toggles and wondered if maybe they might need stronger debouncing or something due to the way they make/break contact (not so 'clean' as a tact or pushbutton).... I think I might be the first one to find out ;) Just for the reference of others, I was also concerned that there might be different types of toggles, one which was electronically and physically momentary (as in, it's spring-loaded, so it's physically OFF when it's electronically OFF) and one that's electronically momentary but physically polar (as in, you would flip the switch ON, then you'd have to turn the switch OFF before being able to turn it back ON again)... I've only seen a very small number of the latter, they're all for specialised applications (like, B1 Bomber) and are exceptionally expensive ($20-60+ each)....So don't worry, you won't get the wrong kind of "momentary" :)

I've got mine in the mail now :)

Need knobs? Folks took your allowance? Starving artist? Struggling student? Ghetto ass? Spent all your dough on solder or something stupid like rent or food? Just plain poor? ;D 50 knobs for USD$15 including worldwide shipping Hard to beat!

No shame in that! Thanks mate :)

Thanks DavidV. I assume that you've got those cards there, so you may have access to some more details... If so, it would be great if you could log into the wiki(same username/password as here) and update this page: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=soundcards_with_ymf262_and_or_yac512_chips Thanks in advance!

It shrunk in the wash! :) Very nice! Probably the highest power:size ratio of any synth around I reckon! My problem is that I would just want to stack them up and up and up :)

GDay Waggy, Use the search mate :) I couldn't remember what my findings were so I looked it up for you ;)

Careful, I ordered one last month and got a two-legged version :(

Heh, I tried to copy my own session ID in but it didnt work, thx for the tip mate :) Looks like I might be right about the switch though, the .27 is the cap, the 3.27 is the switch+LED. Bummer. I'm switch shopping at the moment myself, so this thread is interesting to me... I finally found my perfect knobs, but gee they're expensive! Building front panels costs a bomb, but I had to search for the right knobs for like 3 months and I've been gathering quotes for the knobs for a month now, and I've just started looking for switches.... The time it takes is almost worse than the money it costs! Kinda-sorta off-topic, but... Momentary toggle switches... Are these OK for midibox use? I seem to remember using toggle switches in school which were spring-loaded (as in, they were always 'up', and then you flicked and when they were 'down' they were on, and when you let go, they would jump back up, and be off) I thought these would make a nice alternative to tacts or pushbuttons, so I can just 'flick' the switch instead of pushing it in... But I don't know if they'll work? I don;t see any reason why they wouldn't work, but I'm not good with component level hardware ;)

I think that might be just for the cap? I cant find them though, cause the stupid rs website puts a cookie on your machine and your link refers to the cookie...

[Explicit] How to make three LEDs out of two...

BAAAHAHAHAHA!!!! CLASSIC! It's a resistorgy ;) That poor cap doesn't get much action though ;) "Do you have protection?" "It's OK, my PCB is solder masked!" -
The OS (MIOS) will, but someone would have to write the application Yes, you can use a matrix, but you'll need some programming skills, nothing of this nature has been attempted as yet with TK's sequencer. Possibly, although this would be more about utilisation than IO restrictions. Nah, use the matrix :) Sorry mate there's a lot more involved than that.... You'd need to make major mods to the application's control surface code. There was a rumour of a button matrix like the monome for the upcoming version of the seq, but that is not released, and it will be ready "when it's ready" :) But if yuo pay attention yuo may catch some teasers ;)

Stuff MAX.... Not much point in a hardware sequencer if it needs a PC to run... might as well get a touchscreen for the PC and save some big bucks ;) Try this: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=midibox_sequencer_vx Edit: Oh the latest pre-alpha versions include the much requested ability to have conditional events, for example, when step 15 of track 2 is played, this should trigger track 3 to play, etc Oh and don't forget about the internal feedback on seqv3!

;D Looking forward to that one !! Sounds like a hardware version of sounddiver :)

LOL It's funny because it's true!

I assume you're taking about carbon fibre weave, but doped in what? Resin? In order to make the panel markings visible to a practical level, you're going to need a very bright, near primary colour to stand out against the weave, cause it's so high contrast... almost appears black and white... You might even consider a flourescent or phosphorescent paint with some lighting that activates it (UV LEDs).... But it's far from optimal. You can get around the cost by getting sheets of carbon fiber lookalike material BTW. The good quality stuff is pretty much indistinguishable from the real thing as far as aesthetics are concerned, and I don't think the practical physical properties are a concern in your case. I don't think it's a good choice of material for a front panel... But if you're like me and you just think the stuff looks pretty, you could take a page out of the books of so many automobile manufacturers and use the material as a 'highlight'.... Put a square around your LCD, a strip under the rows of knobs, etc etc....Or you could grab some of these: http://www.altronics.com.au/index.asp?area=item&id=S1037 ... I just ordered 10 for my midiboxen power switches :) There are guys selling them on ebay too. Anyway I'm going to stop sharing my secret plans now ;)

Thanks man that's a good tip. I like that they've done a beefed up kinda-clone. I always wanted something that sounded like a 303 if you wanted it to, but with like 3 oscillators and two multimode filters and a few envelopes and lfos .... This isn't quite that, but its as close as I can find ;) I'm not usually a sucker for certain bits of kit, but there's no denying 'that' sound ....

lowest cost DIY illuminated button - the challenge continues...

Beautiful. I thought that might be the rumoured extension :) I have a bag of 100 of those LEDs just waiting ;) -
Totally. CF cards aren't as expensive as they used to be that's for sure ;)
-
I've got the password for the x0xb0x and just waiting for the next production run :)

Yeh, if you can ship em to .au, I might give some a good home too

True.

I'll write a 2x2x20 driver for the VFDs too if it sweetens the deal.... (for those of you who don't know about that, I am going to write a driver which will drive 2 2x20 PLEDs as a 2x40)
-
Just a thought.... If you're going to make a hardware module which will take care of FAT for a CF card, why not just go straight to a hard drive?
