Hi toxic... What's the aim of your project? It sounds like "re-inventing the wheel" to me... You're doing synth layouts like hallucinogens, and building a sequencer from the ground up.... So why not just use hallucinogen's synths and a MBSeq?

Don't forget about overheads guys. If you're thinking about silkscreening anything less than a half-dozen or so midiboxes, it's probably cheaper to have them screened professionally, or you'll end up paying more, to setup a screenprint lab that you'll never use again :( I think it was pay_c or artesia who swears by the adhesive transparency paper you can buy (either way, both of these guys make great cases and should be an inspiration to us all).... that's what I think I'll be using. Print, stick, done. Sounds just right to me ;)

Still too many steps for me. Curing, etching, blah blah blah. I'll be impressed when I see someone develop copper ink, and you can just print the traces right onto the board and then start soldering ;D

Yeh I like the soundlab... They're a nice spec, extremely well documented, lots of mods, lots of users, nice price, etc etc. In short they're real good ;) I thought a lot about a Midibox SoundLab, but in the end I just thinking, "I'd rather spend it on another MBSID" ;)

Those dremel extension things are great, you get the power of the dremel in something the size of a marker pen... makes them far more maneouverable for fiddly lines like that...

You sure that's a 44780? Check this out: http://home.iae.nl/users/pouweha/lcd/lcd0.shtml#_2_line_displays As you can see there's no provision for lines > 40 characters traditionally speaking, but there are ample addresses available so it's possible. I assume the driver IC's have a gob of glue on em and you can't read any numbers off them?

You could write a single function that is called by those functions though.... But what AC said is true.

Yeh the HD44780 standard does not include the backlight, that's left up to the manufacturer - although I never could figure out why they use strange voltages sometimes ???

Edit: actually if you're talking about transposition, you wouldn't get the right notes at all..... So yeh, this definitely needs to be re-done. Appreciate you catching that one, widdly!

If you want to do buttons like these with the rubber tube, I found a really good source this weekend - remote control model engine fuel lines. You can get the tubing not only in clear, but in transparent coloured types, which I really liked, and it's easily found on eBay. Search for fuel line or fuel tubing or something like that. I managed to find some that are fluorescent, so if they are lit with a UV LED it will cause them to glow. Yeh I can get the chip delivered to me for AUD$58, and I'll pass it on to anyone anywhere in the world if they can't find somewhere locally... The chip is a little more expensive from my source than the average euro/usa prices, but the total was cheaper for me because of shipping. In most cases, if you include shipping, I think you'd probably be able to find a cheaper source elsewhere in Europe (like ordering from the UK), but if not, I am happy to pass the chips on to anyone that needs them.

I'm interested.... Reminds me of the Waldorf Gekko boxes :) I don't have a lot of time, but if there is enough demand for the app, then I will volunteer to support/expand/document it as best I can..
