  1. Check your contrast?
  2. Nice one! Stick with it mate, you're making progress -And hey, your experiences can help others now that you've put them on the board :) Good luck!
  3. I wonder if it might be worth making an external VCA?
  4. I'm sure I read somewhere that that won't work because it's switching.... Could be wrong? If I am wrong then I have access to hundreds of power supplies, who wants one? ;)
  5. About the jitter... You'll have to make sure that the pins not switched on are connected correctly - if switching off leaves the pins floating, then it will act just as it did before you grounded them...
  6. 60 VHS Recorders sound kinda interesting but I am just DYING to hear 16 MIDI Controlled klaxon horns!!! AAAROOOOOGAAAAAA! ;D Good luck in your project mate, please send us an MP3 one day!!
  7. Good to hear tel3 :) Perhaps you could write the solution in here so that others with the same question can find a quick answer? Thanks!
  8. My feedback is hidden. It's so people can't see what I've bought and make a gearlist for my studio out of my eBay history. Most sellers will make their hidden feedback available to you, if you ask nicely. I can't help but wonder if this is a bad press campaign against HKSS by his competitors who, well, can't compete? I mean, there is (now) question over the quality of them, but there's no arguing that HKSS clearly has the cheapest source around. Must be hard to compete.... I can't find the supposed warnings (supposed by GetLoFi) that were circulated by SDIY or Doepfer, can you? Has anyone seen a BBD IC that is marked as being 4096 stage but is actually 1024 stage? And hey about the whole using child labour to clean up the IC's...Geez welcome to China. Welcome to the world we live in. I'd say about 30% of the content of your house had child labour involved. Get used to it, YOU voted for it! Plus...Let's say that HKSS is getting old karaoke machines and laundry equipment (BBD in a washing machine? huh?) and then paying some kids to clean them up... Do you think there would be any profit at $1 per chip? He'd have to have a source of hundreds (probably thousands) of karaoke machines at less than 50c a pop. Here's the big question: If you had Hong Kong Mafia in competition with you, and you lived in the same city as them, would you go around talking trash about them, trying to destroy their booming business? You'd be DEAD! So very, very dead... Don't believe everything you read huh. I'm not saying it's definitely a lie, or it's definitely true - but I'll tell you the only definite thing about this: nobody knows. Let's keep the rumour mill at bay (get it? bay? ebay? hah! I kill me!) until we can prove one way or the other huh.... Meanwhile I've got a shedload of IC's here from him which I have no complaints about so far, no dodgy looking IC's at all - although I ended up avoiding the BBD chips.. Unfortunately I'm not in a position to test them right now :( So to counter these currently completely defamatory and currently unfounded unproven rumours I am now going to start a rumour of my own: ChipForBrains is giving the owner of GetLoFi a kickback of free IC's and parts. All GLF has to do is publish a single email, which of course he didn't write so doesn't have to bear responsibility for, and get the rumour mill started. And supply his first born as child labour for the HK mafia.
  9. Hey mods, if someone could get me 23kb of file space I can upload a zip file with a codeblocks template skeleton application. This would mean developing a new app would be two mouse clicks away :)
  10. Hi All, I thought I'd let you know that the C Simulator is now working on PC, and I have written a setup guide for Code::Blocks IDE to develop apps including an updated setup for the simulator which will work on both PC and Mac. So now all the nice stuff audiocommander has been showing us in XCode, is now available to us on PC :) This is only due to audiocommanders hard work and advice to me (a total C newbie). Thanks AC!! Please don't be put off if the big document makes this looks like a lot of work - it's very easy to do, I've just written detailled instructions so that you can't go wrong. I hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions or suggestions please feel free to let me know. Cheers, stryd_one Edit: Here, have some links: Code::Blocks Setup Guide AC-Sim Simulator
  11. Quite alright? I think they're excellent! I'd be interested to hear though... Mix square (lower freq) and triangle oscs, and 50% or so ringmod them by high freq noise, with a 0 attack, quick decay, to a low sustain level, medium release... It won't be that classic sound but I'm so curious to hear it if you feel like making some unusual percussion :) But first have some fun with the family :) And TK, thanks for the new option!
  12. Damn i love that kick at 50 seconds, if that could talk it would say "take THIS" right before you hit the drum each time ;) I think I have a nosebleed :D The snares are sounding OK (I mean, for my purposes, my "wish list")... I mean they sound good, but they're all very same-ey. Damn I wish I had my mbsid built so I could show you what I'm talking about...uhhhhhmm gee it's hard putting sounds into words!! As an illustration, often my snares are not so much like a real snare drum as they are like smacking a metal pole with a steel hammer. Obviously FM is well suited to that kind of metallic sound but it's still do-able without it, especially when you've got ringmod and fast envelopes on your side. I think a major difference would be made by gating out/fading out the noise a bit faster, but the attack is lacking 'snap' at the moment and I'm not sure why?
  13. So you're synthesising the sound of me? ;)
  14. Nice.
  15. My sincerest apologies, oh doctorious one ;D
  16. Yeh that's basically what I was going to say, only I crapped on for about 5 paragraphs or so about fourier theory and harmonics and spectral content and why the ringmod/sync is so crucial... No need for all that now, you obviously experimented and found out the real way :) I'm not sure how you came to the figure of two tracks per drumtrack? I think I've missed something :) That said, I disagree with quite a few things you've said so far, which I believe is due to your perception of a "typical" drum track... My drums overlap all the time, it's integral to producing the style of music I do... Is there any such thing? ;) Can't agree at all :( Maybe in techno/house/etc, but not in breakbeat-land.... I think I actually laughed at a DnB producer for doing that once ;D I'm mostly concerned with attack times when it comes to drums... Absolutely, IMO when it comes to drums, a pair of oscs with ringmod is a must-have. I read this: Geez FM would be nice ;) PS Don't you just F*n LOVE that rackattack!? :D I think I'm gonna get another one :) PPS I see you've made another post, you're discovering everything I had in my original post heheheh Don;t forget we'll have 8 SIDs in these things, don't be so oscilllator-shy ;)
  17. :o *stares in awe* ;)
  18. Yeh CC is an acronym for Continuous Controller, it's what you say when you're so lazy even 'controller' is too much to type ;) (Like me for example) Edit: beaten by AC
  19. Damn my reply from last night has disappeared, I must've closed the wrong window or something :-\ I suggested just that - if a lcd_init works then maybe you should just add one... Although it begs the question why two are required (one is already called automatically on bootup)... I wonder if your LCD is taking too long to initialise and so is not ready when the first lcd_init is sent (when MIOS boots). I was thinking that it could just be a charactristic of your particular model of display, or maybe the LCD or core might not be getting enough power? Personally I don't like to leave loose ends. I'd be trying to find out why it's doing this, because if it's missing the lcd_init, who knows what else is being missed... You have a workaround but it's not really a fix.
  20. -verbose hehehehe I mean... Why send the message saying the fader has moved as some big nasty sysex message? Why not just send MIDI CC's?
  21. Sorry I've gone all silent guys. I've got a post on the way shortly.... It's kinda long and I'm kinda busy so it's taking ages :(
  22. I was thinking SMPTE for video rather than tape... Not high on my list either ;) SPP = Song Position Pointer, I think that's already in the clokbox too With the multiple clocks, the difference is having multipliers as well as dividers. I've seen that sync shift box before (there was one on ebay a while back that I was bidding on), it's pretty cool but daaamn expensive :( Why higher clockrates? For more accurate timing, and slaving more advanced gear like a PC...
  23. Heh I remember ClanAnalog parties in Sydney maaaany years ago :) There's another $20 that stores gonna take from me ;)
  24. "What kind of card is it?" "FM." "FM?" "yeh, F*$#ing Mystery" ;)
