  1. Hi, I've just finished working on the first revision of the panel design for my live controller, and here it is It's 5 rack units high and the faders are 100mm to give you an Idea of scale What do you think? any suggestions. I'm going to have a play round in photshop to work out the colors Rowan
  2. Hi, I keep getting an error message when I try to upload a .jpeg, here it is Processing status... - Adding Live.jpeg Warning: copy(/home/avishowt/public_html/albums/Rowan/Live.jpeg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/avishowt/public_html/midibox/modules/Gallery/platform/fs_unix.php on line 24 Resizing/compressing original image Warning: getimagesize(/home/avishowt/public_html/albums/Rowan/Live.jpeg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/avishowt/public_html/midibox/modules/Gallery/util.php on line 333 Any ideas Smash? 3. Hi, I just brought one of these to experiment with: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Daco-scientific-trackerball-optical-encoder_W0QQitemZ7610687328QQcategoryZ4661QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Get in quick they wont last long! I might get a cheap usb mouse and hook it up to the encoder tracks on the mouse. If it works well...................USB trackball in a built into a midibox anyone ;D Rowan
  4. I've done some more test with this hack, and it seems to work with all controls that can be assigned to a MIDI note number. I'm yet to try CC's. Rowan

  6. I'll let you know how I get on, Thank for that ;D I won't be able to sort it out until next weekend as my internal drive has died on my PowerBook and I booting of a firewire drive. the gputils Installer hangs because it can't mount my internal drive......bugger! Regards Rowan
  7. I just tried the -MIDINoteFeedback hack and it works in Live 5 on a Mac ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Nice work finding that That's another issue solved. It sends an Note number message of the number you assigned (in my case C2) to it with a velocity value of 127 when your triggered clip starts to play, every loop cycle it sends a Note on message with a velocity of 1. then when the clip stops it sends a note of with a velocity of 0. 16:55:30.100 To MIDI Monitor (Untitled) Note On 1 C-2 127 (Clip Start) 16:55:52.699 To MIDI Monitor (Untitled) Note On 1 C-2 1 (Clip Repeat) 16:56:03.993 To MIDI Monitor (Untitled) Note Off 1 C-2 0 (Clip end) This is very cool, We can have the LED's Flash or blink when the clip has looped again.......and I sure lots of other things. The core could count the number of Note On Velocity 0 messages and display on the LCD how many times the clip has looped. Bicolor LED's could be used so that At the begining of the next loop cycle the LED could flash a different color. Anyone got any other ideas how we could use this? Rowan
  8. Audiocommander, I'm having trouble finding a 2.5 snapshot for OSX, when I follow the link that you have posted on the wiki I end up in a section with more links. Do I go here: http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/snap.php ? The newest snapshot I can find is 17/11/05. Or should I download the source and compile that? Thanks Rowan
  9. Hi, If you want to do fader automation, you will need dual track motor faders. One track is linear which will be connected to the Midibox, the other track is log which will replace the connections from the old fader in the console. Every pro analog (neve, ssl etc) console I've opened up uses 10k log faders for the audio signal so the Alps RSAON12M9 fader should work as a drop in replacement. check the Alps website for details. http://www.albs.de/ sell them, though I don't know how much they are. They won't be cheap but they won't cost as much as P&G's Regard Rowan
  10. Audiocommander has been kind enough to write a entry on the wiki about how to use Xcode 2 to program and compile on a mac running OSX here: http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=how_to_use_xcode2_as_ide_on_a_mac Can all Xcode related posts please be kept in this thread as it will make it much easier to for the few mac users on this forum to find and discuss the information relating to our beloved OS, Xcode 2 and Midiboxes. Rowan
  11. Your a star audiocommander ;D Thanks for taking the time to do that, you really have done all us mac geeks a favour ;). I'm going to start a new thread in the MIOS programming section with a link to your post on the wiki so that It can easily be found via the search. Maybe we can use that thread for all discussions related to Xcode 2 so that all the mac related info can be found easily once again thanks, you've saved me a lot of time and money that I was going to spend on a 'doze box ;) Rowan
  12. Hi, I working on a "Live" controller to, and have been faced with the same problem. I can't be bothered dealing LED ring and I'm trying to design my controller so each control only has one function. Because of that pot's are seeming like the best choice. At the start of my set the controller will always set to the default and change from there, so having pots really isn't a problem. I've been disussing these and a few other issuses with Stryd_one in this thread: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=6496.0 Have a look to get a little more detail about my thoughts Rowan
  13. audiocommander, I also use OSX and would like to compile my apps with Xcode2 rather that using a windows machine. could you please write a quick tutorial about working with MIOS C in Xcode? It would be very helpful for us midiboxers in Mac land. Thanks Rowan
  14. Yup.......................or am I doing exactly that ??? Maybe a tag should be added for worthless reply ;)
  15. 20k should be alright, I did a MB64 with 20k and it was fine
  16. I've be thinking about doing that ;) What I will do if I do use encoders is use the ones with the built in button on the low/mid/high gain controls as the in/out controls for that particular band too keep panel space down and also the cost of having the panel made down. I think I'm going to go for a schaeffer panel on this project. All I need is a windoze machine to run the software ??? might be time to look on ebay for a new doorstop ;D
  17. Stryd, You can find the soucre (or should I say sauce) code and schematics in Gif format at: http://tribalgathering.co.uk/images/BOOTY.gif Thanks for you sugesstions, you have put some thought in to it! For this purpose I don't really want multi functional controls in the channel strips. It leaves me open to make too many mistakes during a mix. I've been think about using some pots instead of encoders, this will have 2 advantages in this situation. Firstly, it's going to free up some DIN's and secondly, I will have clear feedback from the pointer on the knob as to the current state of the control. If I was going to use the controller for something like Logic this would be far from ideal as the pot's would be serving a multi functional role. In this case though each control will only ever be assinged to 1 function. It will also give me enough free DIN's to have a section with assignable encoders. My other idea is just to get rid of the "Send 2" encoder which will free up 2 DIN's. I'm still thinking hard about this one. I've got time to as I'm still getting the parts that I want to use. Rowan
  18. Hi Stryd, Nice Idea, I'll Dwell on that one while I'm at work Rowan
  19. Hi all, I would like your thoughts on a design issue that I am having. I'm looking into building a Ableton Live controller for DJ'ing. Currently I am deciding what I would like each channel to offer. To give you an idea how I have "Live" setup, -I never use more than 4 channels (remember, I only use "Live " for DJ'ing). -On each channel I always have 1 EQ3 and 1 Auto filter. -I almost never use send effects, mainly because I don't believe send effects are very effective on complete tracks (I hate when a DJ put's a flanger etc on a track). -I hardly use the X-fader. Therefore I hardly use the X-fader assigns, but this may change in the future. -The way that I use Live for DJ'ing I only need one Clip Lunch button per channel What I have listed below is what I consider to be essential controls (now and for the future) for each channel in my live set-up. This problem I am having is that each channel will require 34 DIN's, and because I will be using 4 Channels I need to get rid of 2 DIN's/ channel i.e 2 button's or one encoder 34 DIN's/channel x 4 channel's = 136 DIN's I have not included DOUT's in this as I am still unsure of Live's support for MIDI feedback. Channel: Fader (Pot) Solo/Cue (Button) Mute (Button) Clip Stop/Start (Button) Select (Button) X Fader A (Button) X Fader B (Button) Send 1 (Encoder) Send 2 (Encoder) -------------------------------------------------- EQ3: Bypass (Button) Gain Low (Encoder) Freq Low (Encoder) Low In/Out (Button) Gain Mid (Encoder) Mid In/Out (Button) Gain High (Encoder) Freq High (Encoder) High In/out (Button) ---------------------------------------------------- Auto Filter: Bypass (Button) Freq (Encoder) Reso (Encoder) Filter Type (Button) Env Depth (Encoder) Release (Encoder) ---------------------------------------------------- Button's 12 Encoder's 11 Pot's 1 DIN's 34 AIN's 1 Sorry for the long post, your feedback would be much appreciated. Rowan
  20. Hi All, I got some calrec fader moduel's from ebay recently that i will convert to a simple MB soon. Am I the only person who is is retrofiting old gear? I'm sure i'm not 8) Regards Rowan
  21. Serato scratch is the dogs bollocks! I live with a DJ who got one of the first units and have played with it a bit. I haven't tried FS or Miss Pinky, but Serato scratch get's huge props from me. The interface is excellent, stable as hell and very responsive. I've seen it being used by some very good sctatch DJ's and it seem's fine. One thing I have to say about Serato Scratch is the sound quality is amazing. I don't know if you know who Serato got their name? The Protools (and now also Logic) plug-in "Pitch 'n' Time" which is the BEST time compression/expansion and pitchshifting software avalible anywhere! If you want to know any details I'm happy to tell you what I know about, Serato is a New Zealand company and (which I also am) I've talked with the developers about the nuts 'n' bolts of how it works Regards Rowan
  22. Nice work! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Is the firmware avalibile to download anywhere? I'd love to try it out in the future Rowan
  23. Just had a look at the new boards on you site, Smash you have done an excellent job of the lay out ;D Much respect! Rowan
  24. Hi, I was in NZ, based in Auckland. I got alot of my parts from a place called Surpulstronics on Queen Street, It's a great store. But not much help if your in wellington. After 3 years of building MB's in NZ I never managed to find a source of MF's. My best advice is buy a BFC2000 (I don't think the faders are touch sensitive) and pull it to bits or contact a service center for someone like Yamaha (music works) or Beheringer (Rockshop) and try to get parts from them. I don't know who distributes Tascam in NZ, but they recently released a control surface with 24 motor faders which is reletivly cheap, so parts from them might be priced OK. Don't bother with Mackie, the faders from the Mackie/Logic control are $125 a pop :-X. Another avenue is to buy bit's of grear from trademe and rip it to bit's. That's what I did with this: http://69.56.171.55/~midibox/forum/index.php?topic=3726.0 best of luck Rowan
  25. Thanks, I'll be back with more question soon no doubt. Kind regards Rowan
