  1. Not with 30W laser :-\
  2. I started to file down the holes for buttons and just realized it is not problem in thick layer of powder coating... the problem is that it is mechanical CNC so I got 2.5mm radius where should be square! That really sucks! >:(
  3. Now is the time for some updates... I received the panel and case today I ordered just 2 days ago. I was expecting it at the end of next week. I ran to the workshop (sleeping room) to check it on my synth, and another surprise followed, but unpleasant. What happens is that they bent the edges of case 90 degrees as I draw, but other way than it use to be. Another problem is that powder coating isn`t thin as I saw on some other cases, so all my openings are too small. :( That problem I can fix by filing down the coating layer (i guess). I thought I will avoid using a file this time but I was wrong. I called the service but they don`t work at Saturdays so I must wait till Monday. I`m sure they will send me a new one. Besides this, I am satisfied how it`s made. Here is some pics. and here is the error
  4. I understood, but I explain it because few people asked me why name it if it`s DIY. Sure you did, and you made it so small. Mine is much bigger and definitely much heavier than yours, but I still love it... ;D
  5. You can always add DB connectors on your 1.7, so when V2 is ready you can make brake-out box with additional hardware. TK already said he want throw away his cases. I like it better to have all in one housing, but this is not bad solution if you in a hurry to finish it. I`m not waiting for V2 to finish mine. ;)
  6. You are trying to get back on track now. Heheh. OK Identity and personal aesthetic touch is only two things that I can give to this great project. I just change the code a bit to disable the sounds of bankstik according to your instructions and that is it. Never wright a word of code myself so ...I waned to do it more personal this way. ;) Names are not reserved only for industry products. Right? Why don`t we all give our children names? :) And here is the answer (form Wikipedia) why I called it Endorphin:
  7. You shouldn`t worry about it.I`m not informed well about law in your countries but I really thought people stopped worry about may they say something. :-\ It reminds me of communist regime in my country years ago... People shouldn`t "think too loud" some things if they don`t wanna spend years "hammering the stone" on one of our remotest islands... Oh, how I hate politics, or should I say politicians! >:(
  8. I don`t mind anymore to have different sub-topics in this "blog", ...about hard drives, planes, comics... you keeping it alive and make people come by. ;D I hope next week I`ll have real update as I am expecting the panels I`ve ordered. Until then let`s have some fun. ;)
  9. Michael, you are true example for all of us. ;) I read somewhere about service for storing files on some backup satellite which is paranoia step beyond. :) I don`t think makes much sense but good marketing idea if you want to charge data super security. Companies that lost big money with their lost data wont risk again and would probably pay some extra money to think their data are even not affected by nature disasters. I think it is better idea to have backup space in different continents. Once I managed to save my data from dead HDD pretty easy. One chip burned, and I couldn`t find service to repair it so I decided to take whole PCB from other, smaller one, also Quantum HDD, similar PCB but not the same, and put on my broken HDD. I conect the HDD and was able to see and copy all data. :D What happiness! The chips was more hot than seamed right, but I didn`t destroy it. :)
  10. That`s similar to what I`ve done to SID soldered directly to the board, but I could easily test the SID and replace it without trowing away whole module. I can`t imagine to solder chips to OPL3 to discover that I fried them while desoldering. As I understand YAC512 and YMF262 are very sensitive to overheating... or maybe it is not SO sensitive :-\
  11. I really like how it looks black & white. :) Always wanted to make some monochromatic box, but display is critical part.
  12. George, I truly understand how you feel, and reading this I can recall that bad feeling about it. As David said, I miss some data more than any ex-girlfriend. It is lost without return. I also have problem with backups like you. Compiling full DVD is a big problem for me. I like order and to fill DVD with mp3 for example is nightmare, only because I like my music to have ID3 tags and folders to be tidy. It takes time, and most of all everyday DISCIPLINE! No discipline over here :P The lost of music is not a problem, it can be find again but I lost much of precious, personal data, from audio, graphics to other kind of creative projects which cannot ever recovered. You think I backup regularly now... well, no. I have few GB of free space now on 120GB HDD and I had few on 30GB HDD. So, as much as I have, more I download, hence more messy it becomes. I also bought 1 GB flash for only "necessary things" for dragging around which is always full. ::) And when I check to delete some files, seams I need everything. I`ve seen some BBC program about data lost some time ago, and there was people that had nerve brake down because of that... they lost big business projects. My friend cried like a baby after she had a HDD crash. It can be devastating experience. I hardly recovered myself. I learned that quality of disk really don`t matters that much for not losing the data. I had some cheap internal HDD that I dragged in my belt bag every day while driving the bicycle for 15-20km in the time of NATO bombing. I must say the ride was pretty ruff! :) ...and it worked great all the time, but I had a crash of much expensive one that I never took out of PC. I think, if you want your data to be safe you must back up regularly, and If some data means very much to you, backup twice! Discipline it the word. Good luck George and take care ;)
  13. What a great Lo-Fi idea. :) I have no SMD experiences, and few days ago I completely disappointed myself trying to desolder some IC for practice using TK`s wire technique ...what a failure. I thought of cutting the board myself but same time... it must be bad idea. Now I know people are actually doing it which is great, but still I would rather learn to solder/unsolder SMD`s
  14. That is really cool feature, but using Alps motorfaders just to zero pitch is maybe too fancy, if you ask me. They are not cheap, and you wouldn`t really use more than 5% of it`s potential. :-\ If only Panasonic motorfaders are still available, it would be good idea. ;)

    PCB Dimensions

Download Eagle and use it to open *.brd
  16. Because I don`t update this blog often enough, so everyone (including myself) forget what was it about. ;D
  17. ;D ;D ;D ;D ...that is so funny! I must get one...
  18. Outer pins should go to "+" and "-" and inner pin to AIN input
  19. Well, I`m not the one that`s going to give you some answers but I would really like to see that display on my boxes and quit endless quest for those PLEDs. This seamed realy good substitution with high contrast ratio, and it is graphical which is plus. Thanks Stryd.
  20. That illuminated panel looks nice. Instead of using paper it is better, and very cheap to use transparent laser print foil on top of some acrylic sheet for diffusion. I made something similar for my pirate radio and the result is great! It is easy to make and very cheap. Mine is made even cheaper, as my diffuser was piece of PVC foil. Check out the result. ;) Illumination is kinda fake, as the light bulb (yes, light bulb) burned in the time I wanted to take a picture, so at the picture sunshine is used for illumination. ::)
  21. ...I could. :)
  22. ...same, but don`t let your girlfriend find out. ;D
  23. I am using 22nF caps too (block) as I couldn`t find better quality - styroflex with low tolerance. Never have chance to test different caps but seams they affect sound more than I think. :-\ I really like the sound of my SIDs but worth some more effort if they can sound even better.
  24. I finally found some time to cut another, corrected dummy front panel. The weather was awful for traveling to remote part of town but it payed off. This time all went perfect so I can order real, aluminum front panel and enter super final stage. :) Here is how it looks... much more evil with black cardboard. ;)
