  1. Please don't distribute this, remix it or anything else like that. It is not public domain. This is a jam I had with the Midibox SID synth using only 1 channel of the SID V1.7c. The notes and some of the CC data were generated by the Midibox Sequencer V3.2. The highpass and lowpass filters are using the SID also on other channels. This also shows use of the sync feature as the SID is synchronised with the TR-606 drum machine. After the recording some small reverse edits were made and a bit of EQ/Compression was added. Excuse the large amount of noise, the TR-606 makes a lot and so do the filter inputs its going into on the SID! http://dcerecords.dnsalias.com/MP3/DCE Records - Midibox Seqencer SID Filters Sync demo.mp3
  2. Thanks TK! Im all updated to the latest version now, wasnt too hard. I had the new pic after all! A note for others looking at the toolchain quickstart... Try to keep the path as short as possible to the files being turned to hex. When I was doing the compile I had a long path and it would not work, as soon as I put the whole lot into c:\ivy and ran it from there instead of the longer path it worked a treat. Looking forward to finding all the new features :) Now I just have to get the Aout power sorted, and figure out why my LTC midi out and thru arent working and im at 100%!!!
  3. Hi all, Was just wondering... I have an Aout board in my sequencer which I never connected up as I found the whole power supply situation too difficult being a novice at electronics, not comfortable working with mains voltage nor mounting transformers into the existing case etc etc. I did make a PSU for it some time ago but it didnt work. In any case im wondering how many people out there are feeling the same and avoiding using the Aout for this reason. This is why I was wondering what the alternatives are? I saw on http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=bipolar_12v_psu that you might be able to hook it up to a wall wart at 12v, is this a reasonable solution? If so im more than happy to do this! Does anyone know the milliamps needed to get it happening? Any advise, words of warning etc about this method or another simple solution? I know everyone has been talking about the Aout NG board recently and I saw those posts, but im not sure if the same info applies to the normal Aout module so thought I'd ask. Thanks, John
  4. Thanks TK :) Its good to be back in midibox world! I have it working perfect now. Seems I forgot that it routes the midi to where it needs to go already. I had set my master keyboard to the channel I wanted to record then routed it in the MIDI menu too. When I turned all that off, selected the midi channel only in the event page and sent notes from ch1 on the external keyboard it all worked a treat. As a side question, do you think its worth me upgrading from the version im on now (3.0 Alpha) to the current version? Ive lost my DIN configuration (not standard) and I only have the older style PIC chips (with 4xIIC modules and the old AOUT - still not connected!!!). Was there a lot of gain in features or bug fixes (cant find a single bug in 3.0 alpha) making the change over of the PICS and all that goes along with that worth it? Im very happy with this version, but I havent seen what the new one does in action. Thanks !! John
  5. Hi Everyone, I havent used my midibox seq for a while now, been busy with work. Just got it all set up the other day and its been fantastic to get back into it, but I have come across a bit of a problem, maybe a user problem rather than a machine problem :) Im trying to real time record in notes from the keyboard into the sequencer in record mode and it wont do it. Everything looks normal ie midi in light comes up, all other functions working 100% but for some reason it wont record the notes... I also cant recall which version of the sequencer application im using either (can you hold down a button on boot to see it??). I am using mios v1.9c and from memory the record function used to work when I was first using it... Tried auto record on/off. Midi merger passes notes into the synths past the seq so looks all physically ok... Was there ever an earlier version of the application where record mode was not working in realtime yet? Im pretty sure I never moved onto the final version as my config was a bit non standard and I lost track of how to customise the application to my machine again! If anyone can suggest what im probably doing wrong it would be helpful. Thanks!
  6. Hi Ultra, I physically finished it but have never tested it properly. Moved studios since I started and im set up again now, Ill dig it up some time soon and post. Did you complete yours? Cheers, J
  7. Im in for the components to populate the board when your ready.
  8. Im in for one, and anything else that comes up for the 6582 box, knobs, leds the whole box and dice :)
  9. Wilba, did you count me into the LCD's? If not any left over? Im up for one for sure if so! Cheers!
  10. Wilba, did I give you my updated postal address? Its not Poscode 5073. Msg me if your not sure. Thanks for all your efforts on this! Count me in on any/all parts :)
  11. Im in 100% Thanks for the effort you are putting into this Wilba, and let me know of any other bits needed to complete the project, im in on them too!
  12. Thanks for the advice guys, sounds like I was better off with the old mac, the opcode studio 4 and studio patches! With the direct monitoring, what a pain. I have noticed that the wave files and vsti's dont sync up with the outboard midi gear. If I only use the outboard midi gear then its ok, but that defeats the purpose of having the PC there (except that its a nice multi channels FX unit). After my last live show I feel that I need a much higher capacity for samples than my hardware samplers can handle, a perfect job for the PC, Ive even invested in some upgrades hoping that using cubase in this way would be good.. Seems may have been a waste of $$ after all if this if the sync is out... Apart from spending huge amounts of cash on upgrades, anyone got any other ideas? I dont really want a "computer music studio" I just want something to add FX on real hardware inputs, mix it, record the midi, record the audio, and play back long samples in time... Is that too much to ask? :) Cheers, John
  13. Hi Guys, Thanks again for the responses. I had taken a bunch of other screen shots of the config when I read: "and to try with and without the direct monitor checkbox ticked. BTW- The realtime monitoring with effects you mentioned, will only be available with direct monitor off" from Jidis. When I turned it off I could hear the SIDs instantly!!! Woohoo!! Whats the disadvantage of having this off? I also have another seperate question about using Cubase SX3. One of the midi inputs is my Midibox Sequencer. Ive been contemplating how I can best use this as inputs to cubase. As I am in a multi port situation, its not that simple! Ideally I want to be able to assign multiple instuments from the sequencer which are ultimately on different output ports from the PC ie (ive simplified the midi device names to just numbered ports to make it easier - which are made up too, just looking for a conceptual answer): MBSeq Ch1 always goes to sid 1 (PC output port 1 ch1) MBSeq Ch2 always goes to sid 2 (PC output port 1 ch2) MBSeq Ch3 always goes to sid 2 (PC output port 1 ch3) MBSeq Ch5 always goes to sid 2 (PC output port 1 ch4) MBSeq Ch6 always goes to MS2000 (PC output port 1 ch5) MBSeq Ch7 always goes to EMU Proteus ch 1(PC output port 2 ch1) MBSeq Ch8 always goes to EMU Proteus ch 2(PC output port 2 ch2) MBSeq Ch9 always goes to EMU Proteus ch 3(PC output port 2 ch3) MBSeq Ch10 always goes to Novation Drumstation 3(PC output port 3 ch10) MBSeq Ch11 always goes to Kurzweil K2000 ch 1(PC output port 4 ch1) MBSeq Ch12 always goes to Kurzweil K2000 ch 2(PC output port 4 ch2) MBSeq Ch13 always goes to Kurzweil K2000 ch 3(PC output port 4 ch3) MBSeq Ch14 always goes to Kurzweil K2000 ch 4(PC output port 4 ch4) MBSeq Ch15 always goes to Kurzweil K2000 ch 5(PC output port 4 ch5) MBSeq Ch16 always goes to TX81Z ch1(PC output port 5 ch1) I used to achieve this easily on my old macintosh computers by using an opcode studio 4 combined with the studio patches application so that any midi routing you could imagine would happen, then be recorded into logic. Now Im using cubase, I cant see an easy way to do this... Looks like which ever channel you select will get all inputs, even if you filter it down to just getting one input it doesnt solve my routing problems.. Anyone had any experience with this? If it makes it easier my sequencer has multiple output ports (IIC's 1-4) which I used to use. I dont have an 8x8 midi interface for the PC, I do have the 2 output ports on the C-Port (and 1 in) a midisport 2x2, and a m-audio oxygen 8 with one output port making a total of 5 output ports and 3 input ports (the cport input isnt reliable). I guess if I get an 8x8 usb midi interface ($$$$) then I could feed each instrument from its own port.. Can I do it without spending up?? Thanks guys! John
  14. Thanks for all the suggestions. The C-port has a 1:1 in to out happening. I muted the various inputs in the C-port mixer (usually needed in reaktor for proper usage or you will get the monitor signal and processed signal over each other). I have followed doc's suggestion with the track with the input and output selected, ans also the rec and monitor buttons depressed. Still nothing. I can however record the inputs then play them back normally, just no real time monitoring with FX (or without). I have attached an image to show how it is all set up. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance, John untitled.JPG
  15. Hiya, The tracks I am using are midi tracks to trigger the external synts, which in turn pump the audio into the C-port which I can see in the mixer, but it wont go into the output. The only outputs for audio I can see on a track basis are for audio tracks, or VST tracks. When I put in a VST track and choose the master out it works fine. Its just the audio coming into the PC that isnt being routed to the outputs as it should be. Any ideas? Cheers! John
  16. Hi all, I've just hooked all of my studio back up and have been trying out my midibox gear with Cubase SX 3. I was wondering if anyone in our little community here could answer a simple cubase sx question for me... Ive got a C-Port ADSP24 rack with the PCI card, 8 in 8 out with midi etc etc. Works a treat. In cubase I have set up the asio drivers, named and configured the input and outputs as I thought made sense. I can see the input levels coming in via the mixer (from my SID synth) but no audio is being routed to the output (the output meter isnt moving). VST instruments do make sound and make the output meter work... Odd.. Am I missing something simple here?? I do recall earlier cubase versions requiring pressing some button on each input channel to route it to the outputs, but I cant find anything similar. The manual isnt helping, nor the help system in the program... Any thoughts would be cool Cheers, John
  17. Hiya TK, Just wondering if you ever got the start stop going?? Im pretty keen to use it with the sequencer! All the best, John
  18. Hiya, Don't know if its still supported, if you can easily get all the IC's, or if it can be integrated into the V3 system (I doubt it) but have you looked at the http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp_shx8.html page? This is one of those cases :) I'm sure anything is possible with some hard work... I think in this case it would be very hard work. When you go to V3, make sure you put in 4 IIC modules, it makes this machine a totally different beast - that is if you use midi too.. If not it wont really make much difference. All the best, John
  19. Ultra, are you sure you are not me posting in my sleep like in some kind of freaky Phillip K Dick novel?? Sorry to repeat some info here, but I had to say something as there's a common wavelength here... I too found this project mainly seeking a hardware replacement for SEQ303 myself, I was a heavy user of it, and still am when im in the mood! What version are you using as it sounds like a few features may have been released in later versions?? I have V2 only, it was the last update made that I saw before it vanished. In any case, the V3 Midibox sequencer can easily replicate everything found on SEQ303 and more except that the step based cc's are more limited in the V3 Midibox sequencer compared to SEQ303 as SEQ303 could have Note, velocity, and 3 assignable CC's with a value per step, and another 1 with a common value as well as a common gate and glide. However, in the V3 Midibox seq its as easy as making another track active on the same port and channel, setting it to have 3 cc's only and there you go, more cc's per step than SEQ303 (Ive used up to 15 tracks on the V3 Midibox seq as 3 cc's each + 1 track with note, vel gate to run just one midi channel!). When you hit random on the midibox seq it will give random values on any layer, as well as notes, as well as linking the loopback as TK said... The "gang" feature on SEQ303 can be used on the V3 Midibox seq (the all button) too (or not used) but the behaviour when a note or cc hits the top of the range is different. The main difference is the Midibox sequencer will also add random rest steps and random gates per step (if wanted) too. In general, the Midibox sequencer leaves SEQ303 for dead as it is more feature rich, let alone the fact that you can touch it :) The only thing from SEQ303 you will not find on the Midibox sequencer is how you can record every change you make into a midi file in real time on SEQ303, but if you plug in logic or cubase onto the end of the chain you get that too! As much as I love SEQ303, the Midibox sequencer has out grown it, a lot. On a totally different note, after much thrashing I have not found any new bugs other than the ones already mentioned, but, I would love it if someone could take the time (not matter how simple they think it is to do already) to explain a step by step example usage of drum mode, and of the loopback channel please (for internal controls) as I have had little luck with either and am quickly drawn to other easier to use features as I don't get what I want instantly! Last time I tried to use the loopback channel n(to control an ARP's key changes) by recording in real time the note changes I wanted, it didnt work (I dont mean its a bug, user error for sure!!). After TK said that realtime rec didnt work in this mode (if I understood correctly) I tried to manually enter the changes and still got nowhere. I know im missing something really simple! :) All the best, John
  20. Hiya Ultra, I think putting this into a 1ru rack would be a breeze, however I cant say anything helpful about the encoders as I couldnt imagine how 8 encoders would run the whole show... Im sure they can, but it doesnt look like it would be a direct replacement for the 30 buttons as theres really 5 interface "groups" being the 4 delays with 3 +- settings each, and then 1 "main" settings with 3 sub settings with a +- each.... The screen does lay out with 4 settings across the 2x16 display (dont bother about a 2x20 as its wasted) but I couldnt imagine an easy way to group them all under the screen so I'd say put em where you like :) It wouldnt be confusing to have them to the side. On another related note.. I thought I had midi I/O problems with this project, but I dont. I set it up with the default application, all the buttons work, the screen works, MIOS studio can upload to the box in interactive mode, but yet no midi out comes from the machine.. I havent seen much delay wise happening. I think I configured it correctly, and I did see some midi events coming out of it into midi ox, but I havent had the time to investigate fully. All the best, John
  21. Thanks! What a great idea! Ill have a look for some :)
  22. I'm pleased to say that I have been thrashing the new build and so far have not found any problems at all. This is not the results of my testing, just a comment :) I would like to use/test the loopback feature more but im having trouble using it. I have tried this: 1) Set track 1 to arp mode and add desired step values 2) Set track 2 to loopback mode and recorded some key changes (track 2 is loopback ch 1) 3) Play back sequence, key changes to arp not working What am I missing here? I can add more detail if req, just thought to keep it simple. PS, the new memory format pages and other extras are fantastic TK! The copy and paste modes work as expected in all situations so far, the port mutes have worked perfect (recording the midi in logic using a multi port i/o is now a breeze!) Ill post more detail about testing as soon as I can. Thanks, John
  23. Thanks TK for taking the requests on board, I think it will make for a better sequencer in the long term! I will do my best to test as many combinations of features as I can. I'm not going to be near my seq from the 11th to 20th so don't take any silence in that time as everything is tested or that i'm not doing it :) Ill test some before and some after those dates. Im not really familiar with the drum modes and chord modes (as much as I could be). I will need to do some reading on their usage before testing them. I'm especially interested in testing out the song modes more too! Thanks again!!!!!! John
  24. Hiya TK, Havent made any comment on the sequencer since the last build as Ive been so caught up using it! Im keen to help beta test the release canidate, do you have any test prodcedures or is it basically to do everything we can and see what breaks and how? Are there particular problem areas you have in mind to test more? Before no more features are added, I would like to suggest that getting the copy/paste/clear functions working so that when copied that all settings not just note and cc events are copied ie every menu item that has changed for that track, and when pasted that all those variables are pasted too, and that when a pattern is cleared that all settings are cleared as well as notes and cc events. Also I think that a memory format feature is required for easy reuse of memory without time consuming changing the code or manually changing all the settings back to normal yourself. In my view these changes would make a much more complete sequencing tool. All the best, John
