  1. how big?
  2. :o that is mad!!!
  3. any news on Carrillon? They are owned by Turnkey.....
  4. ouch - that's not good! Turnkey were notorious for crap customer service and that "Record shop" service attitude. Their sister company MediaTools next door were much better to deal with and had some truely awesome demo kit and rooms. It's getting harder and harder to find places to demo kit for sure, I know a lot of places that have stuff in stock and still won't demo it. The scarey thing is that group were huge - so it probably means a whole lot of people in that sector are in big trouble!
  5. and not Beardyman but on the same sort of tip:
  6. that's Beardyman! and he is the BOMB!
  7. Ahhh - I see you are hiding the plastic bits, I kept mine on the other side to you...
  8. I used the upside down header trick on the dB Live - I don't remember seeing it anywhere before I did it, but I don't think I was the one to invent it... BTW: I noticed you've removed the plastic bit from the headers - I didn't do this - I soldered in upside down and then used a flat head screwdriver (wide bit) to push the plastic down to the pcb - means less chance of bending pins.
  9. mmm, I'm looking at the PDF again and it looks like there are 6 positions supported - the 6th being auto release. But all the stuff I read said to move the ring in the 6 pos switch to make it a 5 pos. Looks like I missed wiring a lead (running leads from the PCB to the Lornin switches as I'm waiting for the case and didn't know the exact measurements for the hole positions) - nice one for pointing that out! I think Doc said it best about the GSSL "you gotta try really really hard to make it sound bad".
  10. the minute someone writes it down as a feature it's no longer an Undocumented Feature ;) If you leave the switch at 6 pos it leaves the Common Floating, I guess this is why you are getting some freaky stuff happening.
  11. great news that your unit is working! sounds like an ground issue was the problem.... Hehehe - I've set my switch to 5 pos - but I'm gonna set it to 6 if I get some cool fx like you are saying!!! That's not a problem - it's a circuit bend "undocumented feature". the release is only meant to have 5 positions...
  12. the compressor is alive and well and sounding AMAZING! I defo recommend this project to anyone else who needs a decent compressor. snebenan - what are the symptoms with your unit?
  13. that's not a pirate - that's a glitter bandit wearing a Pirate's Hat with a Zoidberg Skull on it - which is all very odd....
  14. it's gotta be the real kind of pirate that sails the high seas matey!!!
  15. the lack of pirates is the real cause of global warming. see - this chart below proves it!
  16. if so it's a very good disguise! sorry to hear about the loss - that's gutting! it's this sort of service that causes these problems: <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tN94ePhsd4&hl=en"></param><param'>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tN94ePhsd4&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tN94ePhsd4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
  17. Ultra - ooops when I said learning LC I meant learn the Mackie Control protocol, the LC application didn't help me much except for LCD feedback for meters and stuff (which aren't in the dB Live, but might be included on the dB 8 )
  18. nice work Sasha - looking forward to seeing the finished version!! And yes learning LC is a must! At least until I can find a way of becoming a Ableton affilated developer and get access "under the hood", I've discounted the Python route as not being workable at the moment and there is a lot more I'd like to control that LC won't allow.
  19. mmm, it seems only the Asian supplier has them in the package I need and they only do min 100 quantity.
  20. oh and that stockist is asking $30 per Chip via buy-it-now on Ebay...
  21. yah - I can work with the SMD version... I'll check the page and start looking right now. Thanks Prof!
  22. it's official Rapid are the best electronics company in the UK. They even have people working on Sunday! I placed an order last night about 2am, realised I needed to change some parts, "deleted it" and re-ordered adding the extra parts. After checking this morning I realised both orders had been placed and were getting ready for dispatch - eeekkk! I hate wasting money like that. I was going to wait till Monday and check if I could do anything about it then. I just got a call (12:30pm Sunday) from Rapid "You placed 2 very similar orders - do you want them both or shall I cancel one?". I'm super impressed! Also good to know if you need stuff urgently in the week that you can place the order Sat/Sun and have it to you double quick.
  23. oh dear - that's not good news!! does that mean the Digikey/Mouser orders will never be filled? Or should I stick some on back-order with digikey to make sure I get some when they next ship??
  24. I'm trying to get my hands on 5 x Burr-Brown BUF634P buffers, but there seems to be a worldwide shortage, Digikey, Mouser, RS all have them on back-order. They are $6 a pop from the places listed above but someone on ebay wants $15ea! Anyone have any in a draw they would like to sell me or have any suggestions where I could look?
  25. thanks Prof! I want to keep the parts as per the original spec, some of those caps have signal running through them so I don't want to risk colouring the sound, it's the "SSL Sound" I'm building that baby for... I do love Rapid - their service really is great (especially for the UK)... BTW: if you are ever in East London near Brick Lane give me a shout and come round for a beer!
