  1. "graphic environment" - mmm, what do you mean by that? the CS layout is determined by the PCBs so it's not "interface design", the case is off the shelf, so that leaves the silkscreen &/or a CNC or manual metal work job on a pre-designed panel. The only thing I can see of any merit would be the silkscreen if you were doing a graphic design course, and then it would be invalid unless you compared the original with the new design and showed how much better it was...
  2. i have wondered this very same thing, and often wondered what kind of smoke and mirrors would be required to grab an amazing grade and look a genius would be required... I also doubt programming an app on midibox would be enough - 99.9% of teachers at sub university level aren't going to have the knowledge or time to understand SDCC, ASM etc etc... But hey I'm assuming based on my experience - for all I know they are handing out PHDs with every Velleman kit submitted in a working order somewhere....
  3. News: The forum has been moved to another server. We are still working on a few errors and dead jimps.
  4. i think bugfight killed Jimp, we see his dis-embodied spirit in the lounge sometimes....
  5. mmm Euphonix, they make my favourite mixers.... the buttons on that controller are gorgeous! anyone seen them for sale anywhere??
  6. i miss jimp....
  7. ultra - have a private chat with SmashTV in the lounge, I think he might have sent a parcel overseas once ;)

  9. I think anyone planning to use a midibox project for a school mark is just plain mad! it's a time consuming process learning the electronics, skills etc etc. I'd build the box for personal learning and find something a bit safer as a school project.
  10. I've got a similar bit of functionality to write and in the back of my mind I have using tables as one of the options to explore. would it be possible to use a table for the same sort of functionality? and if so, what are the advantages/disadvantages?
  11. LMAO! :D
  12. hehehe, it's actually kinda the best thing to do in a situation like that, if you are touch and go going into shock there is a good chance something like that will snap you out of it. I know if I hadn't got up I would have been rushed to hospital (well maybe after 2 or 3 records anyway ;) )....
  13. cheers twin-x, the HV20 looks perfect. Now, they do the same camera with a hard-drive, but I think I'll still go for the tape version, cause if you run out of HD you are screwed, at least you can always throw another tape in....

  15. mmm, I'd ask Twin-x first about the bug list. Speaking from experience it can sometimes be more frustraighting having bugs pointed out when things are still in flux.
  16. oh man, I looked at those photos earlier and thought to myself, mmmm 2 sets of strippers/crimpers in the side of the shot, I wonder if that is for me - then thought, don't be silly that's just wishful thinking. thanks smash - massive smile on my face. now I just have to ask the mail man every day - "Where's my spy camera? Where is my spy camera?"
  17. Hardly any international DJs are using vinyl any more, it's all about CDs and or Laptops. Trust me, if you turn up for a gig with a box of records these days the other DJs look at you as a bedroom/local jock. for me it was the functionality of Ableton 5 combined with post 9/11 security and baggage restrictions which meant I could only carry about 50 or so bit of vinyl as hand luggage (never, ever, ever send your vinyl/laptop into baggage compartment cause if they lose it - no gig, no money and a very upset promoter).
  18. Sasha - you mis-quoted me... what I said was: real DJs (i.e. people who are actually standing in dark DJ boxes every weekend) who also have a clue about interface design Sasha is a big DJ as is Hawtin, but how much experience in interface design have they got? For that matter I can guarentee you that Sasha could spend six weeks in a studio and without an engineer there is no chance of a track coming out of there...
  19. I need to buy a video camera and I'm pretty clueless on what's around these days. I'd welcome any words of advice. Here's my needs list (which I know is completely at odds with each other) a) small & light - it needs to go in my DJ box and if possible a pocket b) good in low light (I know I need a big one with a nice big lens to do this properly but size/weight is a massive issue) and or ability to fit a light onto it. A lot of the filming is going to be in dark clubs. c) large storage - I need to be able to go for weeks/months away from HQ. d) able to take still shots e) reliable and easy to use f) would be nice to get one 2nd hand off ebay to save some cash but not absolutely necessary
  20. my guess is this - they don't have any real DJs (i.e. people who are actually standing in dark DJ boxes every weekend) who also have a clue about interface design working on their team. Bascially the same reason why the Uc33e has black knobs with black indicator triangles that are useless in a club unless you paint the triangles white. Sorry, I don't have a link - hit the ableton site's forum and do a search on Python, I think it's one of those things like midifeed back was on 5, released quitely and not supported as such.
  21. Hi Sasha. Sorry - I thought you'd have known more about Ableton/Python - hence my ultra short reply. Python is a scripting language. Abelton have opened up Live so you can control EVERYTHING (as I understand it literally everything ableton does) using Python scripts. But like I said, I haven't needed to go down that road yet, Mackie is doing all I need. But I probably will start to play with python scripts this year cause ya never know what you might want/need till you know you can do it. dB
  22. mmm, I can't comment on if this is Smash's guest-list or not, but what are you gonna do with the parts without the PCB?? The 6582 - amazing, just that W did it. Even more so he did even one run of pcbs, the fact smash is gonna do more - wow! Remember the price that these things are being re-sold at, and think of the work they have done. Now think of the time you (and me!!) are saving by waiting for the parts as opposed to doing the sourcing and that's without getting into the pcb work , or if you are up for it - do a custom job for yourself - you will gain so much knowledge but I doubt you will save any time and I know you will spend more. way I see it - the first mb6582 is an inspirational bit of work, one I never expected to be able to own/hold/tweak and love. The fact that some people got a set of pcbs and then a kit from smash is amazing and a testament to Wilba's (and of course Smash's for using his time and contacts to source, pack and support the kits) commitment to the community , if kits become available from smash or anyone even more of an amazing result for anyone lucky enough to get one. My point? Wait, hungry, salivating and patiently quiet for that moment to grab a kit if/when you get the chance. But also take a quiet moment to reflect and think what TK, Smash, Wilba, Twin-x etc etc have done for the community and how rare that spirit of giving is today, especially to strangers and maybe when you get the chance do the same.
  23. 240v @ 40 amp NYE a few years ago - marquee out the front of the club to hold and extra 1000 people, someone threw up on the loom running to the lighting dimmer rack. Stupidly once told of this instead of pretending to be too smashed (no not smashTV'ed) I grabbed a ladder and threw the breaker - WHACK woke up I don't know how many seconds/mins later with the club owner telling me to get the fuck up cause I gotta go and play a set... also know someone who lost a couple of fingers due to a lighting desk not being earthed - lesson here is a) always prented to be more drunk/[insert current chemical state of choice] that you are b) always earth EVERYTHING
  24. Sasha - one word - Python, if you really wanna get hard-core go down that route, or like you already planned mackie have done pretty much anything I could think of needing...
