well i hope to find one of these people when i go to sell my esx :).
-
for some reason i've never thought to use froogle. i was about to go to guitar center to buy an m-audio axiom 25 for $180 (some were selling it new for $200+ on ebay), and i found it for $150 brand new and shipped on froogle. thanks! i'm afraid to type in "roland v-synth xt". i got $1000 off what sweetwater sells for a new one at ebay, but who knows...

what business category would this be in the yellow pages? or whatever color the pages are overseas :).
-
regarding the engraving, i asked front panel express to send me a small sample of a black panel with text that is filled white, and text with no in-fill (chrome, essentially). the text will be in din17 1 stroke and will be at the .2, .4, and .6 engraving sizes. i can take good pics if you like and show you the results of the different engraving sizes and colors when the sample arrives. in my design, i have a 2mm thick panel that is 1U, black, no in-fill color (if it works, they said that's iffy to go without color), and has a hole for the lcd and has approximately 55 small circular holes for buttons, each with an engraved label. the price in the quote is $56, so not bad at all.

i have some beer for you then! there are quite a few posts around the forum for how people are making their panels. just search for them. personally, i think after figuring out the cutting, painting, etc, it's worth it just to buy. but a lot of people build their own and there's plenty of information available on this forum.

i downloaded tk's mb seq file from ucapps and used his settings. 2mm thick and aluminum anodized. anywhere from $50 to $200, perhaps. depends on the panel. the only way to know is design your panel and hit the $ button.

i have no idea what you're saying, but if i can use my wiimotes to control midi, that would rule!
-
thanks, that looks like it will be fun to play with.
-
that project doesn't look terribly difficult or expensive. looks like i'll have to build a pic programmer while i await the pcb.
-
their shop doesn't appear to be active. what are the prices?
-
$2000 ps3 and toast with the virgin mary on it? nope i've never seen any madness on ebay.
-
i only use this to store images and misc other files. someday a web page, perhaps. there's more space and bandwidth than i'll ever use and plenty for this purpose. the screenshot also gives the site's capabilities. hopefully it can do what you want. you can have full control over this portion of the site and whatever e-mail accounts you want. whatever@sub-version.net. send me a pm telling me what you want the directory name, e-mail account(s), and password to be for the site. btw, did i miss out on the buttons? i'd like to see what they are and possibly make a purchase! drew

i didn't worry about quantity too much, i just bought plenty of extra because they're so cheap at futurlec. figure a 16 pin connector for each lcd, plus one to the core (and a 10 pin in that funky setup as well). for 10 pin DIL connectors, i just bought a lot. i'm not at the point of knowing if i need 5 pin SIL connectors yet so i can't give you any advice.
-
for the single row 5 pin plugs, i've only seen the ones where you use the crimp pins. http://www.mouser.com/search/Refine.aspx?Ne=1447464+254016&Ntt=*53850579005*&Ntx=mode%2bmatchall&Mkw=538-50-57-9005&N=1323038&Ntk=Mouser_Wildcards don't forget the crimp pins. view the catalog page from there for different sizes. if you look around, maybe you'll find something cheaper. for the dual row, 10 and 16 pin connectors and corresponding ribbon cable, i got them cheap at http://www.futurlec.com. expect to wait a couple weeks for delivery. these don't need crimp pins and are very easy to assemble. for 5 wire ribbon cable, i'd just buy 10 core wire or anything in a multiple of 5 from futurlec and split them apart.

i was just inquiring about those mentor knobs the other day. 511.61 look nice and have no indicator. 513.61 would be a nice matching wheel for the seq. they're awaiting delivery to farnell. perhaps i'll order eventually. they don't give shipping rates (i'm in u.s.) until you order, though. the only other problem would be getting it to adapt to the d-shaft encoders i already ordered. perhaps i'll just go with this knob (http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/item/KNB-150/310/KNOB_FOR_1_8%22#34;_SHAFT_.html) and use my 4mm shaft gluing idea. let me know what you end up doing.

i vote giving this money to tk. of course, i have nothing to do with the raising of the money, so i'll make a donation myself once i've completed my seq! i'm with wilba. i like the competition idea and without the prizes. each person with a prize winning midibox already has their prize in right there in their studio. it would also be nice to consolidate things and get good pictures in one place. it would be a good chance to show off and compare, as well as to take inspiration from other people's work. if you need a place to permanently store images, hold polls, or do whatever else you want, i have a domain and web space to donate (www.sub-version.net/WhateverYouWantHere) and you could simply have an ftp account and full control over that part of the site. i'm not good at web pages, scripts, and all that stuff but i'm more than happy to give up some web space for someone else to use. did i miss out on these lighted caps?
-
sorry i have no solution to that. be careful! i did that when i was ten. three times. in one summer. all were moving cars i ran into. :/
-
i think i found a solution to this problem. the alps encoders i purchased actually have close to a 4mm hole (slightly bigger) from the underside that turns with the encoder shaft. i'm going to buy 4mm metal rods and glue it in, drill a hole in the perfboard for it to fit, and attach the knob. seems like it should be sturdy.
-
duh sorry. i'm used to sites where you just add it to the shopping cart. thanx.
-
did you find them? the only knobs without indicators that i like have a 1/8" (4mm) shaft, so i need 4mm encoders as well!

i'm wondering where in the united states (or order overseas if i have to) i can find the illuminated switches from http://www.rjselectronics.com. specifically, this switch: http://www.rjselectronics.com/pages/detail-product.php?parentID=109&pageNo=7.

check out my third post at this link http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=8408.msg58701#msg58701 i'm new to electronics and i had no problems matching up the lcd connections as well as making a negative voltage converter.
-
there is no point, other than keeping it all uniform. i was going to try to make illuminated caps using acrylic rods. although i think i'll use your suggestion, thanks :).

i noticed on tk's sequencer layout that most buttons have an associated led with it, but some do not. is it possible (without difficult modification) for all buttons to light up? at least while it's being pressed.
