OPL3 is a better chip I guess. I am working on a very large project and will reveal all when it is at least in a musical state! There isn't really much point in announcing something that doesn't work or can't be shared with others.
-
Thanks but they are OPL3 chips, which is not what I am after. Thanks anyway though.

Hi all Bit of a long shot but I'm after a Soundblaster 16 or Soundblaster Pro (not Pro 2) card. To avoid any confusion, the chip will be marked FM1312 or YM3812. I know there are suppliers, but thought I'd ask here in case anyone has some hanging around. Thanks S

Looks like he read your comments! Here is an update sent out: Finally, I've seen a couple of forum postings regarding the sound quality of the synthesizer recording on the Kickstarter page. We are well aware that the recording is not CD quality. The output of the protoboard prototype was simply plugged into the mic input on my laptop to capture the recording. So, we simply have all sorts of noise paths through the prototype, we have an impedance mismatch between the output of the prototype and the recording device, and we have a not-that-great PC ADC capturing the signal. This adds up to less than spectacular fidelity, but for what it is, quite decent at showing off the potential of the project. The unit sounds infinitely better simply plugged into an amplifier/speaker, so I know that the final unit will be able to perform quite well. We shall wait and see (or hear!).

Thats what I thought, its way down the list at the moment anyway.

I had one of those delivered today, but its faulty so am waiting on another one being sent. Was there ever a conclusion to that project? As for the Avecsynth, it seemed a fun little toy, however an additional Arduino is also required.....
-
Hi all Don't know if this is of interest to anyone here: Kickstarter Avecsynth I backed it at the $60 level cos I have too much soldering and fault finding to do already! S

What happens if you swap the 2 DOUT's around?
-
Singing socks, even better! I'm working on a regular synth, although speech is possible with the chip I'm using, not much was ever done with it, so. But yes, I can report progress, yesterday, hooked up the keyboard and played songs using the MIDIO128 V3 matrix, today wil be making a more permanent interface board for it, then it's back to driving the noise generator part. I'll send you an email with some pics as this is going OT. Best regards S

Thats a rather noisy white sock Chris! Can you train it to say something? :-) S
-
Re-check the soldering. Can you swap some of the '595's?
-
Thorsten, thank you so much, I can report that all files seem to be playing now. Regards S
-
Certainly, files sent via email. Thanks and regards Sparx

Hi Thanks for the reply, no MIDI file seems to work, even one which is 17K in size. Same files on the same card work in the midi player tutorial.

Hello all Been trying to get the MIDIO128 V3 playing some MIDI files and I get this appearing in the MIOS Stdio window: [ 713.456] Can't allocate 171 blocks at 850 I've also had some problems with the Sample player so am thinking it might be the SD card Im using which is: 2GB Sandisk with a speed rating of 2, formatted to FAT16. What cards have people used with success? Thanks S

Hi swinkels Which jumper setting is which? When is a volume reducer required? Good work.
-
I sent an email to Donald first but yet to get a reply, he's probably in a long queue at the post office! Those samples don't really do the Nano SwinSid justice, here are a couple more. 8580: Nano SwinSid, no jumpers on a C64C: What exactly is the SwinSId? Is it a 6581 replacement, an 8580 replacement or a generic "SID" replacement? Whatever it seems to do the job....
-
And here is the real thing: Real 6581

Kristal, thanks for your very prompt reply to my PM. Mr Postman delivered a package from Retro Donald early this morning. Ordered Monday, on my doorstep in London by Thursday, pretty good. As requested here are some very rough recordings: SWINSID 6581 no filters SWINSID 6581 with filters Overall, it seems very quiet. Tune is the start of the demo song on the Prophet cartridge.

Get the LCD that is cheapest and can get to you the quickest. (or borrow one) We need to know what the boards are (Digital In's or Digital Out's or Analogue In's)and the application. Don't worry, you'll be able to do it.
-
I use the Prophet 64 Cart on a real C64, tests each oscillator and also a test tune can be played. Am sure there is a BASIC listing somewhere which does this too.
-
OK, first step is to read the site, everyone will tell you this. Have you read anything yet? Looking at your photos, you don't seem to have an LCD attached? Can you get one? This would tell you what application is running which would help you. Where are you located? Can you post some more pictures of the boards?
-
I think it sounds more like a MIDIBox 64? Best place to start is by reading about the different boards and projects at www.ucapps.de Bits you need to read will include: Core board DIn Board DOut board AIn board How many of those do you have inside this keyboard? Is there an LCD attached?

I tried to read up on it vefore posting, but my German is not good. Anyway, a quick email to Donald and I've got one ordered.
