so it is done?
:frantics:
Of course not! What are you, crazy? :frantics:
Hehe, 3 leds are not working, sometimes one or 2 encoders only work one direction, so basically it needs to be rewired /re-soldered, checked for shorts.
Otherwise its running fine, need to add feedback pots then and it will be done!
-
So: no worries, pay attention to what you're doing and you'll be fine!

Very Basic, one oscillator drums.
Could be a lot better with more sounds and variation, but it was my first attempt.
Can't wait to try making polyphonic drums, MB SID has huge potential for drums.

If the X32 lives up to the hype then it does look like a great desk, I had better start saving :) Judging by the picture, they obviously haven't quite finalized the design yet.....
Sorry to hear that your DDX3216 is poorly, from what I have heard, they are usually pretty reliable so hopefully it is just a simple PSU issue?
Cheers
Phil
After a while of messing around, the crackle seemed to disappear.
The only real notable changes i made was changing the sample rate from 44.1khz to 48khz, and rebooted.
Edit: I can confirm that it must be a warm up issue - the crackle totally disappears after about 20 mins after the mixer is on.
Still a great mixer though, well worth the money,
i almost payed the same price for a new DJX-700 way back when they came out, and this is a lot more mixer!
The headphone output can be noisey also, the desk is well worth buying and spending the money saved on upgrading caps and op-amps.

Another digital option is the Behringer DDX3216. It was basically a copy of the 01v and each XLR input includes a TRS insert, they seem to fetch about £300 on Ebay, they received some pretty good reports back in the day, SOS did a review back in 2002 http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/apr02/articles/behringerddx3216.asp
*cough!*
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/X32.aspx
I actually bought a ddx3216 this weekend, but on closer inspection afterwards there is a crackle coming from the output - any output,
regardless of what input is used, even the built in tone generator has a crackly sound coming through the output.
I'm hoping its just a PSU issue (and not a dreaded DAC issue), and speaking of PSU that is primarily where the corners have been cut to make it affordable.
There are many reports online of PSU's failing.
This thread is a beautiful resource though, on upgrading the op amps, and later on in the thread; re-capping all caps in the PSU:

Also it appears Phonic have entered the lower price range of Digital Mixers:

Well my Czech isn't perfect but essentially it's very positive build report, at the end he concludes that it would be nice to have the model with 8 SIDs and CV but this sammich will keep him happy for now.
I'm glad to see a Czech midiboxer :)
Hehe, i was just being a drama queen! going to read the translated version now.

I found a linky to a page on the sammich with 3 nice audio samples at the bottom:
http://www.bodyia.cz/sammichSID
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT GUY IS SAYING ON THAT PAGE BUT I LIKE THE SOUNDS AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THAT PAGE CAME UP WHEN I WAS REALLY SEARCHING FOR PICTURES OF THE BEHRINGER DDX3216 BUT A sammichSID ONE CAME UP INSTEAD AND I WAS LIKE THAT IS PRETTY COOL.

Looks like i'll have to be keeping my eye on this page every once in a while:
http://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/businesses/importing/exchange-rates/index.html
-
You have to look at the official exchange rates that the customs offices in each country / in the EU use. Usually, these rates are updated once a month. Still, if the value is at the brink of the NOK 200 / (put in your local limit here) limit, it remains a gamble, due to the time it takes SmashTV to handle the order, and shipping time. I am not sure how this can be handled satisfactorily in the future?!
Maybe upon request would be better then.
I never knew the customs offices had their own interest rates,
that sucks.
-
Can i haz a refund too?
Great job Smash. I wonder if you could add the Core32 board with IC also?
I guess it would be nice to have a script that takes it out if the exchange rate puts its value above 22 euro.
Its currently just under 21 euro.

I would like to build it into a bigger box with keys - Korg MS20 style. Has anyone build something similar?
You bet!
Alkex built a midibox sid keyboard that is so Korg MS-20 like, it even has patch cables for modulation!
To save you trying to find a 4 year old thread, here it is:
-
I just lol'd so much at this pic:
In future, try soldering the LEDs at a lower temperature.

Ooof! Someone was without their coffee that day it seems!

Now I only need some proposals for useful default assignments for Knob 1 (Modwheel) and Knob 2-5 --- anyone?
Best Regards, Thorsten.
It would probably be a good idea to set up another thread where people can propose their favourite/most used assignments.
Detune is the only one i can think of for now, as i haven't had much time to play with mb-6582 recently.
A dedicated knob for changing the Bank would be nice but might be tricky with a non-detented encoder.
Selecting/highlight the Bank number in the root menu via one of the 5 buttons under the LCD may be a better idea,
so that you could use the Menu encoder, or Inc/Dec buttons to change the Bank.
-
I guess PCM playback would be possible if the sid file was played on an SD Card, and a special sid player app was written for the core.
But that would be quite an effort.
-
I think you are referring to 'Hot_Mommas' by 'Jammer' (see my reply #11 above) and I believe it uses some clever ring modulation and possibly changing filters. No PCM samples at all at all. It is totally awesome though eh!? I love it. I tried playing that particular tune back through ASID XP and then muted each channel in turn and it seems one of the channels controls the shape of an oscillator on another channel. Or something.
Thanks a lot for the reply, i really appreciate it!
I think a skipped over a lot of posts just to get to the videos, hehe!
Edit:
Check out this gem of a thread on non-pcm c64 speech synthesis:

If ASID XP plays it properly then my version will play it properly as well, if you set the flush mode to ASID XP ;)
How do you set the flush mode to ASID XP?
I'm forced to use version 0.1 of your dll, as the the newer version tries to blow up my processor!
-
Ah, yes, I seem to have forgotten to move the old writes to the secondary registers back to the first ones.
Fixed now.
Do you happen to have a list of sids that are especially problematic to play back ?
I could contribute to the that list i'm pretty sure!
Well done on getting Commando to play properly, asidxp and nils hacked .dll couldn't play it properly.
Edit: Asid XP plays it fine actually.
Dude what the hell is the name of the sid at the start of video 3 with the speech?
Does this mean you were able to support PCM playback for that sid?
Or is using some other tricks like Ring Mod to generate the speech.
-
Needz moar vocoder!
THe drums are really cool.
Love the modulation on the bass, what are you triggering there?
-
Wow, thats a beauty!
I wonder how it escaped midibox of the week. Maybe he didn't post it on the forum.

I've a slightly different question, regarding Knob Assignments in the Lead Engine.
You can change the assignments in the menu by changing Pa1 or Pa2.
From my understanding these Parameter Assignments are saved within the Patch itself, and not globally.
Is there anyway to save these assignments globally (for all patches) via the mb-6582 itself, or via editing the source code?
Maybe there is some default/initiliazed setting in the Source?
I'm particular interested in having a dedicated detune knob, and don't want to have to set it manually for every existing patch.
-
Ah so it was you phile who I was talking to about the 01V in the chat!
I was trying to remember/figure that out recently, asking everyone! hehe
Man i didnt know the Behringer DDX3216 existed, i must look into that.
And it has LED indicators on every channel! NICE!
£300 is about the price of the old 01v also.
-
16 channels may sound like overkill, but when you have a MB-6582, you have 8 input channels alone (if you do not passively mix them together), add one or two stereo synths and one or two fx machines and you need them all...
Yep, 16 channels is what seemed logical to me when i was considering buying a mixer recently.
This mixer is cheap and supposively has excellent eq and mic pre's:
http://www.dv247.com/mixers/allen-and-heath-zed-14-live-recording-mixer--48358
Its 14 channel though.
I was thinking about going down the midi controllable digital mixer route also,
Automation of eq, and loading of "scenes" at the start of each track would help do the work of one man in a live situation.
The older yamaha 01v mixer seems ideal, but it has no inserts so you'd have to use the internal eq and effects.
The newer yamaha 01v96 looks nice, but its too expensive for me.
