* can i have a 1.5mm aluminium frontpanel from fpe with proper holes for flathead screws (in german: reichen 1.5 mm für eine senkkopfbohrung?). The fpe designer says, i should use 2mm for this project, whereas 1.5mm are selectable for the other .fpds. If only 2mm are possible: does this still look good on the PT-10? I am aware, that the tactile components are optimized for 10mm spacers plus 1.5mm panel, but i could shorten them to 9.5mm ;-).
As it says on that page:
"Also, it should be noted that due to a rule in the software, you cannot always specify 1.5mm panels over a certain size, so the frontpanel has 2.0mm specified in the file and a note that thickness should be 1.5mm.
Be sure to confirm in email you want 1.5mm thickness when ordering, as they can and do make panels of this size in 1.5mm aluminium, with engraving. If they say they don't, I will personally remind them that they do."
in the note section of the checkout program, just put in something like "*NOTE* Panel must be 1.5mm thick." if its not already added.
The program doesnt let you select it, but schaeffer DO make them with 1.5mm thickness if you like!

Stereo mix jack - 161-7300-EX
http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=161-7300-EXvirtualkey11180000virtualkey161-7300-EX
Ooops!
I just realized now that this jack is too big to fit the standard size hole on the mb-6582 back panel.
The solder points / holes are tiny also.
Luckily i had one in my older sid build that fits.

It seems he has unmarked screws in 20mm, im going to try them.
Even though you're meant to use 25mm, which probably support the weight better, the 20mms have enough length to fit through,
and fit a nut under the pcb.

Spring washers are optional, and would go between the head of the screw and the PCB (where it secures PCB to spacers). They might scratch the PCB but the mount holes have a plated ring around them so it would only scratch that, and can't damage any tracks. I say optional because my original MB-6582 doesn't have them, and they aren't loose yet.
Thanks for the reply. Hardware ordered now, time to finish that friggin mb-6582!

I dropped the original mount holes into the FPD for those who are interested. I just have to figure out what countersink I need.
I just want to say first hand, that i used that exact file, and the holes are perfected aligned for M3 COUNTERSUNK screws only.
If you do not want countersunk holes, you will have to change them in Front Panel Express to normal holes.
Thank you mmalluck for you taking the time to put it up.
Here is the panel screwed in:
Im thinking of going with these Black countersunk head bolts instead,
so they arent as visible as the stainless steel:

I dont like the engraved numbers, in that pic, so i sent the seller a message asking if he has them without engravings.
Ill buy them anyway if he doesnt.

Hi wilba, i just have a quick question regarding the 25 x M3 Spring Washers.
Im assuming they will go between the head of the m3 x 6mm screw and the PCB itself?
Rather than between the 10mm threaded spacer and the PCB.
Would it be better to use a flat washer, as the spring washer could mark/damage the PCB?
Im wondering why the spring washers would be more suitable?
Thanks.

So, you still got the damaged panel ?
Just so other people know this is now property of nILS!
-
It could also be the case of Mike not being able to stock PIC18F4585s for reasons beyond his control.
Thats something you must keep in mind when dealing with the one-man operations.
Some people have posted crazy and insulting rants in the past for failing to think of this!

No, are you referring to the audio socket above the LED?
LOL! Yes.
I had completely forgotten the audio socket was directly above it.
-
Did you use some sort of black LED holder thingy Wilba for mkI and mkII?
-
My initial guess was using noise and a high pass filter.
I found a tutorial here however, half way down the page.

Received a letter in the door from Schaeffer today. It was just a copy of the invoice.
Then to my complete surprise, the panel was delivered by UPS an hour ago.
I was expecting it to arrive on Thursday, as it was still in Germany last night.
The replacement looks great, no paint outside the engravings, no residue.
I'm really pleased, and it was nice of them to sent it by some premium UPS, you can check out the deliver speed below:

This company has one of the best levels of customer service i have ever experienced.
I would thoroughly recommend them.

That looks pretty cool Luke! Nice and compact 4 x sid(V-sid) beast!
Not sure how i missed this first time round.

Coincidentally, I just got an email from Front Panel Express to complete an online customer survey and received a $20 discount on my next order.
They must be watching us , *squints eyes from side to side in shifty manner* :shifty:

Schhaeffer got back to me sehr early in ze morgen, 7:15am!
saying they would investigate what went wrong, and sent another email 13 mins later:
"It seems that the colleagues doing the quality check didn't realize that
the colour was not yet dry. When the panel was shrinkwrapped, the colour
was drawn out of the engravings."
They have agreed to re-manufacture the panel and ship it up tomorrow, i should have it by thursday.
Top quality customer support and service imho.
And thanks to Wilba and the dudes in the chat for the support.

Edit! He changed back the poll results! boo!

Howdy,
received my Schaeffer / FPE panels for MB-6582 and i noticed a few minor defects with the infills on the Front Panel, nothing too big a deal.
So i said i'd put up a poll to see what people think. Im not sure if this is the "norm" or not.
Here are the clickable thumbnails:
In the Mod Matrix, the white line next to Pulse Width is duller than the other white lines.
Note: Lines appear bent on right hand side, due to bad camera angle.
* R is messy
* N in Menu is very messy
* V is messy in Curve
* T in oscillator has a bit of a tail
* White smudge around N in Envelope
Also, how does anyone know hot to clean inside the Red Lines?
I remember it asked on here before, but it was asked before the forum change-over, so the search wont show the post.
Any feedback/suggestions would be appreciated.

Screws instead of glue (MB-6582 frontpanel)
in MIDIbox SID
Posted · Edited by Smithy
Yep, I have a 1.5mm Panel. It looks fine, holds the screws in place perfectly.
Some peeps in the chat think its a bit risky, but the countersink looks substantial enough to my eyes.
I cant see the screw breaking through it. You could always go non countersunk if it makes you feel happier.
Im close to the JB Welding stage now, i will probably do it tomorrow when i feel more alert.
If you would like me to take a close up shot of the countersunk holes i can.
Im an FPD noob, so I dont know if you can copy and paste the dimensions of the hole as well as the hole itself,
but those dimensions were spot on.
The dimensions are the exact same as the holes shown in the Pactec PT-10 diagram of the panel. (the pdf file)
Theres a pic of it in the other thread, and wilba confirmed the dimensions in his post.
