  1. w00t looking forward!
  2. looking forward to it ;D
  3. get some tunes from Jeff (hvsc -> various -> A-G -> Jeff -> ....) they will surely give the 6581's a thorough workout! since they're all made for 6581 :D (or at least a very very large part of his tunes)
  4. NLX: touchy subject ;) the subjectivity of ones SID preference ;D
  5. According to true 6581 afficionados, the 6581R4AR's are the best sounding 6581's out there. They're "4th" generation (hence the R4), and used in most of the c64c (the beige new-case styled c64's, as opposed to the oldschool brown breadboxes). Some C64 musicians (most notably Jeff/VRZ/CML) adore the sound of the 6581, and think the filters and waves this particular SID produces are way better than the 8580's. The 8580's are preferred by the more techno oriented musicians (like PVCF/Reflex...), because of the sick filters and some extra waveforms (hey, that's why most people here seem to prefer the 8580/6582, because of its ability to get dirty like a 303........ which the 6581 can't do because of some well, hmm, it misses some of the extra waveforms in the 8580, and the filters aren't that good). Hope to have helped you a bit :D I prefer the 6581 as well, just because of its cleaner sound, and its ability to do digis using $d418 register on the c64 ;D (Hmm, you can't tell I'm an avid c64 user can you? 8) )
  6. ah, sounds good to me, to be able to hop on the bulkorderbandwagon :) (although i also like the knobs that are on my dmx6fire breakout box...)
  7. wow R4's eh? I'd be interested in 4 of them, if they test out to be good and stuff. to the netherlands.
  8. probably the cap that is making the buzzing sound. This is a nice read: http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/cbm/pstester.txt And the guy has plenty more interesting stuff about ancient c64 stuff. I have to test my own PSU at home as well, makes my c64 go blank at start up >_< grmbl But let me get this straight: you have 3 extra black bricks (opposed to the white/beige weird shaped bricks from even longer ago), which do NOT have epoxy on the inside?!
  9. Get the C programmer's bible: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_C_Programming_Language_(book) that will definately get you started with the C language :)
  10. hmmm sign me up for a full set as well (BASE+CS). ;D
  11. ah, my first post, just signed in so I could reply here (been a lurker for most of the time, and started collecting small parts for a midibox sid, but well, this all-in-one board sure caught my fancy :D) Anyways, sign me up for one baseboard kit, without the PICs, please.
