  1. Don't forget, if you want LEDs for V3 Track Group, Parameter Layer, Play, Stop, Pause, Stepview etc., you'll want up to an additional 11 DOUT pins, which equates to 2 shift registers (or DOUTX2). I'm also wondering on the state of the STM Core, as I'm not going to machine my case/start screwing the boards down until I've fit everything in. But, I can be patient... :)
  2. W, how much each? Cheers Andy
  3. Excellent job, very tidy! Very blue! :) How about a video?
  4. Okay, I thought I heard more than 16 tracks somewhere, maybe it was for extra drum tracks. 16 is still plenty, though! ;) If that's the case, I might just keep mine to the same format. Maybe it might be interesting to add displays later. TK, do you have any ideas on how the trigger/parameter layers will be selected? I realise a V2 panel will need to use the function keys anyway; I'm thinking along the lines of a Wilba/V3 panel, where you have Trigger/Parameter A/B/C. What about holding a "trigger button" (or Function key) then pressing one of the 16 panel buttons? Vielen Dank.
  5. Hi At the moment, the SEQ has the current track indicated by the matrix (Group A, B, C, D x Track 1, 2, 3, 4). With the advent of SEQ V4, more tracks and layers will be available, and so I think it might make more sense to display the track parameter layer and trigger layer on 2x 7-segment LED displays. The track could then be incremented or decremented with an encoder or pair of switches. I am happy to give the hardware a go, and will even try the programming myself, but I was wondering if there is any fundamental problem I should be aware of before I get too far into it. Or perhaps you could share your opinions? Also, how is the duo LED matrix handled by >16 tracks? Thanks again
  6. Wow, this is looking great! I've got my V3 all ready to go, but I thought I'd wait for V4. For those of us who haven't put one together yet, are there any ideas for hardware differences? E.g. track groups and trigger layers were selected with buttons, but would it now be more sensible to scroll through with up/down buttons (or an encoder)? Could they be displayed on an additional LCD or 8-segment LED? And forgive me if this has already been implemented, but are 14-bit NRPNs supported? Or 12-bit for AOUT_NG? Some multi-track-analog-pseudo-sample-and-hold CV would be awesome! Edit: of course I mean 7-segment :P (well, 8 still kinda works if you include the decimal point!) Now, this might be going over the top of the architecture a bit, but do four groups of four tracks make sense anymore? One place where the groups are useful is the 16x4 matrix. If the tracks were not arranged in groups, but just "Track X", could you assign individual tracks to the matrix?
  7. Couldn't you just use the MIDIMON project? :o http://ucapps.de/midimon.html
  8. FYI http://www.pennyandgiles.com/docGallery/85.PDF Could be interesting to someone. Haven't looked at prices or availability yet, sorry.
  9. I'm probably not going to go through with this anymore. Maybe later. We'd need to order at least ten for any discount at all.
  10. Well, I'm going with green as well (from Wilba). Maybe some other time. :)
  11. Ha, nearly! Just around the corner in New Zealand (Fosh 'n chops :) ) That's why I posted. Hopefully no offense caused. If so, then I apologise. I'm actually gonna buy some LCDs off Wilba anyway; maybe later I might swap them out for different colours. I'm probably trying to rush things as I am looking to strike while our dollar is high (apparently the highest in 22 years). And I can't wait to start building these things :) Andy
  12. Yep, but I'm sadly unable to read, write or speak any C :-[ I might just grab a MOTU interface that will do the routing/splitting/merging for me.
  13. Hmmm, not too sure where to put this one... Would it be possible to add more inputs to the MIDI merge project? What would the programming be like?
  14. Just PMed you Wilba
  15. Don't get me started with shipping ;) When I look at the datasheet, I see the dreaded Vee. I'm guessing this means negative contrast voltage, right? :-\ Still keen?
  16. It was around a week ago. Maybe I'm being opportunistic, but I don't think it hurts to ask! I mean, the cost of shipping is more than the cost of an LCD! And it's good for the planet 8) Peace
  17. Hi folks I am interested in building at least a MIDIBox SEQ, and was thinking about making it pretty e.g. backlit LCDs, duo LED matrices etc. At Smithy's suggestion, I am looking at organising a bulk order for backlit LCDs. My obsessive trawling has so far mostly unearthed only green backlights for 40x2. However, crystalfontz offer green, blue and white backlight options: https://www.crystalfontz.com/cart/pricing.php?product=4002a I was looking at a white backlit LCD. When the order increases from 1+ to 10+, the price reduces to US$22.36 (saving $13). Other colours are possible, but would require a minimum order of 20 units. (Red would be my prime choice.) So, is anybody interested in 40x2 LCDs with alternative backlight colours? Andy Edit: Skip to the last page to read more about this Bulk Order (organised by Fussylizard)
  18. Hi again. Being on the bottom of the world means everything is expensive (well at least components), and that shipping is also. If I was to order, say, two 40x2 LCD screens from crystalfontz and have them sent to SmashTV, would he be able to repackage them with an order of his circuit boards/kits? Or, does anyone else have a better idea? Thanks (I did email through his site, but did not receive a reply)
  19. Hi there! Awesome site; I have been looking here for a few months, particularly at the uCApps SEQ. When I noticed you could easily add an AOUT to the fray... well, lets just say I'm certainly going to join your ranks now! Just a quick question: Is it possible to implement MIDI merge in software for the SEQ? Or is an additional CORE module running MIDImerge required? I tried a search, but couldn't quite find a definite answer. Thanks again; I'm sure you'll hear from me soon! Andy
