Doepfer boards are expensive. For 128 knobs / buttons you are looking at around 400 euro for just the boards. I guess you save the time for not have to solder and program them but still...

I've found out that 8 additional knobs on a core feature is not available yet.

Now thats all cool ;) But is it possible to use 'step' encoders or potentiometers where the knob it 'locks' to a next step? These are used in CD players to skip to the next or previous track, sony has got them on their pro units. How are these called? And where can they be sourced in the UK?

Luckily enough, I've got one. It is a bit scruffy but it works, I am taking a SID out of it but not sure where it would be. Can take a picture and post it.

I am about to buy these very soon... did you have a lot of trouble soldering them by hand? I am not even sure what is wave soldering... So regarding the size, if I am to have 16 encoders in 4 rows, what would be the minimum size panel space they would occupy in your opinion? I am trying to figure out if I will be able to have them on a commodore 64 but I did not receive the one I won on Ebay... 10.50 + 10 postage, sweet... Thanx!

Thanks for replying! Well, I am not sure if I really need DOUTS as I am not going to have leds... just solid close-your-eyes-and-twist-the-knobs controller. And I am trying to keep the number of components down because of the enclosure. I do not want to have to squeeze them all in. It would be good to know if those 8 knobs + 64 encoders are available on 1 core...

Thank you very much for your reply. Like I said I need all the help I can get alongside all the reading... You also wrote about 4 x DOUTx4. What do want to do with them. Or. What are you going to control with your midibox? Maybe thats the mistake. I want to build a controller that will be as universal as possible to use both with my Reaktor ensambles (I am a Reaktor builder BTW) and some Ableton FX. If J5 is not on yet, I will have to reconsider amount of encoders and buttons... perhaps I could have 16 buttons and 56 encoders?

Dear Midiboxers, After months of research, I am getting ready to start building my first midibox.I do not have much experience with building elecronix so please bear with me, yes, I am a beguinner. ??? ::) I want to have it inside Commodore 64, I think I will start with drilling my own top panel that should not be that difficult as my design is quite straightforward. I am planning to have a controller with 64 encoders and 8 buttons. So I believe I need: 1 x core 4 x DINX4 4 x DOUTX4 1 x LCD 1 x USB GM5 Module 64 encoders 8 buttons I have a few questions I am hoping to get answer to: 1/ Is my list correct and did I miss anything? 2/ C64 uses 5V DC and 9V AC power supplies, can I use those? 3/ I will need to source really small encoders to fit 64 onto the panel of C64, does anyone know of a good source to get small encoders? 4/ Do you think I will manage to fit all this into 404 x 216 x 75?
