  1. nice video. Dioioib looks around for Doug and checks his waiting list number like he is at a deli counter.
  2. is this german "oneonelevenilsisghey" ? :)
  3. Those are the same buttons and encoders I used for my project and the same supplier. I would totally jump in on this one its only a year too late. If others are thinking of going in on this group buy I would personally recommend the tactile switches I believe the encoders are w/detent so as long as you don't mind that feeling they are great, however you can easily take the apart and remove the detent. http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=encoders essentially these are the tactile switches: http://www.bdis.ca/~briandurocher/public/midibox_errors/parts_mb6582_000004060409.jpg http://www.bdis.ca/~briandurocher/public/midibox_errors/dioioibmb6582june2009.jpg however, I would recommend ordering your LCD screens from mouser too if you have not all ready as part of this bulk order, they have some really nice 20x4 Optrex screens and if you are bringing them into Canada, the less shipping you have too pay and the least amount of brokerage the better.
  4. I would recommend following the advice Wilba recommends for testing the SID by starting with one and adding more as you go. The last thing you would want to see is another bridge rectifier problem fry all your nice Sids. Probably just common sense, but good advice.
  5. as per request here is a photo of the tac-switches I used in my box. http://www.bdis.ca/~briandurocher/public/midibox_errors/parts_mb6582_000004060409.jpg I believe I sourced the part from Mouser but I am unsure as to what the part number is. I'll attempt to track down the invoice.
  6. Sure thing the max mA is 60 and a recommended mA of 30. I am going to rip the 2 lcd's appart and put new LEDs in them. there are only 2 and the display is very easy to take apart. The leds are right angle SMD and look like 0805's.
  7. ok so the screen works now. I used the HEX to Syx converter tool, and uploaded the data using SyxLibrarian for Mac. The backlight on the unit is not working could this have been burnt out during the initial power up?
  8. With the new screen the backlight stays on for a little while during the first power on however after which it will not come back on. This time there is nothing on the screen at all.
  9. Well the 16x2 is not a screen I even intended on using with the mb6582, I just wanted to hook it up using a modified version of the mb6582.asm to see output. All tests and comments are directed toward establishing a connection with a 20x4 LCD. The output in the video and pictures is the same for 20x4 LCD connected to J15 on core1, core2, core3 and core4. Firmware is version midibox_sid_v2_0_rc30 setup_mb6582.hex unedited. I followed the info Wilba wrote in this thread: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,12955.0.html Currently wiring a new LCD. Will test ASAP.
  10. Wilba: the 16x2 LCD is displaying nothing on screen at all but the back light is driven by the mb6582. to answer the question will this LCD work on other cores, no it does not its the exact same output, on all other cores. I can not confirm if the screen works on any other devices as I have nothing to connect it too other than the mb6582. I will try wiring another LCD tonight to see if this one is just burnt out. Lets hope not.
  11. Ok here are some additional photos Showing alternate connections for Backlight, nothing is actually connected to this. http://www.bdis.ca/~briandurocher/public/midibox_errors/dioioib_3mb6582_lcd_000001060309.jpg Header on the board. http://www.bdis.ca/~briandurocher/public/midibox_errors/dioioib_3mb6582_lcd_000002060309.jpg This is the connection to the 16pin's on the LCD. The 15 & 16th pins have been disconnected at this time as I was testing a suggestion listed on the wiki about improper backlight wiring causing issues. http://www.bdis.ca/~briandurocher/public/midibox_errors/dioioib_3mb6582_lcd_000003060309.jpg Let me know what you think. I followed the pin / wire diagram tutorial from the wiki and matched that to the datasheet which is almost a 1:1 match.
  12. So I am having some issues with the Optrex screen I purchased a while back, I did have it working for a short period a few months back. But, I placed the project on hold and upon returning to it, the connectivity seems to be broken. I have reinstalled the .hex file using MIOS studio. - no effect I have rewired the LCD screen -no effect tried a different LCD 16x2 with a modified .hex file and do not get the same problems but I still don't get output on the screen. But I do get a backlight with this one. My powersupply is 1.0A @ +5v and 0.75A @ +12v. Screen is: http://www.optrex.com/products/partdetail.asp?PartNumber=C-51847NFJ-SLW-ADN and a video of the problem can be seen here: http://www.viddler.com/explore/dioioib/videos/10/ thanks,
  13. The encoders from mouser are really nice, I think they are Alpha brand 16mm. But everyone is correct most of the parts are super easy to find from digikey or mouser.
  14. Thanks Wilba and nILS, for reasons I can not explain I replaced C3 and greenwired the traces +C3 to c4 and a few others. I now get 8.92v off V1. So i either pulled up a pad, had a broken trace, or a defective cap, or defective C64 powersupply. I am now running off of an iOmega Jaz drive powersupply, with +5v @ 1A and +12v @ .75A.
  15. Thanks nILS. Yes the board is rev2 6582. Caps C11 and C1 are soldered in for the correct polarity. Voltage regulator is soldered in correctly. What should the voltages be on the pins for J1A? I am wondering if there is an issue with my C64 powersupplies.
  16. So I have checked the voltages across the 7-pin DIN, bridge rectifier and V1 for use with PSU option A. The output from the C64 powersupply is fine at 10v AC, and 5v. After the bridge rect. it's about 13v DC with out load. Now when I try to read a voltage of C12 there is nothing from Pin 1 of V1 to GND there is about .001v. Any ideas. I replaced V1 all ready. Any ideas?
  17. all received. They look great. I can't wait to build them
  18. Well I am in for 4 of those Optrex 2X40 screens.. If we start a group buy, for them.
  19. Well I am in for sure I have 16 boards on order. So I could probably do about 20 chips
  20. Well this looks a lot like the connector on the C64 http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail?name=CP-2370-ND
