  1. Looks really good.. and shiny :) Looking forward to see the finished result. Hmm, i wonder how it would look if the text is transparent and there were light inside the box..
  2. Sweet :) Will there be pictures?
  3. How did the upload of the MB-6582 app to the cores work out for you??
  4. Great, now i can switch between Cubase and Foxit reader instead :)
  5. MIDI i guess?
  6. Man, being able to use MBSID as 'traditional C64' hardware unit controlled by a tracker-like software is a dream of mine... and it's the only feature that MBSID really is missing.. if you ask me ;) This is why i initially bought a MSSIAH cartridge. Using the ASID protocol might be a lovely solution (though it has some small problems with some sid-files/features still) if anyone should ever feel that programming a tracker interface with a simple 'instrument editor' then i hope they'll be able to make use of more than just one SID ;) I kinda gave up on this as i figured the best solution were to program some special MIOS stuff to replace the traditional MBSID firmware, so it is able to change instruments and stuff fast enough to work... but i would be first in line for testing and suggesting features!
  7. The control surface pins are dictated by the software, have a look at the source code in 'setup_6581.asm'. If you just need to know the 'minimal surface' pins to hook up to your DIN module then that should do it for you. If you wanna do anything fancy as assigning the pins yourself or use Core/J5 as DIN then you have to compile the source yourself. You really wanna do some reading before digging into this whole control surface thing.. i know because i found it pretty puzzling myself :) I'm really not trying to act smart or anything but it may be a nice thing to get the 'entrails' running properly first? Remember to check out both wiki, forum and ucapps pages.. chances are that someone before you had a similar problem ;)
  8. What a joy to know that you're getting happier :) The release you're talking about, it's not normal for the default patch.. does the sound just keep sounding or does it fade out eventually?? I myself has a 6581 which is partly dead. One of it's flaws is exactly as you describe; The last note will hang forever and never closes :( Do you have another 6581 you can test to see if the 'release-problem' is really SIDchip-related?
  9. As far as i know the SID and Core should be connected like it says here in the wiki http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=midibox_sid_faq#how_do_i_connect_the_sid-module_to_the_core-module .. it worked for me anyways ;) The wiki is a really great place to look for info when you're stuck!
  10. Thanks TK! Man, it's the internal patch... i thought the internal patch was patch#000 :-[ kinda invisible or something
  11. Finally got my box expanded and thought i'd play around with the patch editor .. it seems that the last patch transmitted to patch001 is being sent to all my banks, so if i send 'warm lead' to patch001 in bank D then bank A, B, C, E, F, G also receives 'warm lead' on patch001 ... i can't confirm much about this behaviour, i just discovered it today If my box is the only one with this problem then the booboo is clearly on my side, so could anyone please confirm that they can upload patches in the very first slot to a random bank without overwriting the first slot of the other banks too ??
  12. I'm pretty sure you're right, and i also think i found out the booboo; the female 7pin DIN connector i used to plug in the C64 psu to maybe did not allow proper ground connection, everything works now :) and i even stuffed the parts into my existing mbsid with no problems... pictures will be available later :)
  13. Hi Jon Nice to see you here too MSSIAH is great but in the end i also turned to midibox, now i don't use my MSSIAH anymore!? After i modded some C64s and soldered a S2S i moved on to core and sid modules, i now have most of the parts to build my MB6582 but i have yet a lot to learn before i dare even start on that one ;) Anyway, welcome aboard :)
  14. Hmm, could it be that they were damaged somehow? Man my multimeter is not fancy enough to measure caps i'm sure, but i never experienced one that wimped out on me... still, i'm open to all suggestions!!
  15. You mean C4 and C3? They are both in place... all components are soldered, the only thing i did not put on the core was a few DIL header pins.
  16. My first guess was a faulty socket too, so i replaced it but the core still has the same behavior. I tried different PICs too, still no luck :(
  17. I have two cores that does not work properly, i've tried all the (few) tricks i know to get them to behave - first i thought that their problem was similar, but when i hooked them up with an LCD i could see that they behaved each in their own way.. i sincerely hope that someone inhere can spot my booboos so i can complete my dreammachines To not confuse matters i will ofcourse only describe one core in this post :) The problem: The core reboots sporadically... well, if the core is all alone it reboots pretty consequent, almost rythmical. if the core is connected to a SID module and an LCD it reboots less often (may be because the LCD and SID module drains some current or something). The strange thing is that if i lightly rest a finger or two on top of the PIC the core stops rebooting The situation in general: The core works so to say.. i can upload mios apps to it (tested the ID-changer app and mbsid app) and when the core is connected to a SID module i can play notes via MIDI between reboots. I soldered two SID modules and the core reacts the same regardless of which SID module is connected... also i can see the standard text in the LCD 'T. Klose, mbsid v0.30 - CS not connected' (or something), with each reboot the LCD first briefly shows the MIOS version number and then quickly goes to the 'mbsid'-text The PSU: I actually have three C64 PSUs and they all drive my first build just fine (http://www.audiosonic.dk/private/midibox/), they all give out the same readings on my multimeter, and they all give the same result with the faulty core - my dream was to add 1core/2SID to the box in the pictures to get 2 stereo parts. The physical facts: I measured the core's voltage and it gives me 5V all the right places - i went straigt for the solution without the VREG (connecting the C64 PSU's 5V directly to where the VREG was supposed to sit) which is the way i made my exsisting mbsid work. I checked that i did not misplace any discrete components, and i even ran over the whole board resoldering every joint to make sure there is proper connection... i must admit that i did not fit all the header pins as this was supposed to be a slave-core, but that shouldn't cause any problems as far as i'm informed. I also tried to connect the 5V to J2 instead, but it's the same deal If someone can give me some suggestions to where i may find the error i will be happy as hell and start fixing stuff instantly :)
  18. Ooh, another danish MB6582 builder :) welcome Morten... We can maybe help eachother out if we get stuck ;)
  19. Please be carefull with hydrogen peroxide (called Brintoverilte in danish) I played quite a bit with this trick (hydrogen peroxide att 45% + a dash of OxyVanish) and it develops extreme heat... actually, i threw keys from a white keyboard in solution one evening which did not help that much. i decided to leave it in solution over night.. and when i woke up the next day the 'spacebar' was warped to the extreme (looked like a molten lego-brick) .... also the buttons got kind of a camouflage pattern (their original color mixed with VERY white spots - kinda like a caries-attacked tooth) which means that peroxide is strong enough to not only remove the yellowing but also to remove the original color of objects!!!! The heat can be overwhealming - my first potion i threw away because it started smoking and foam was building in an extremely alarming rate... i´m not saying this is dangerous or bad, but caution is strongly advised and a few testruns will definately result in a better result... Also, hydrogen peroxide is caustic... not so much on your hands, but do not get it in your eyes - it alters the proteins of matter, an irreversible process, kinda like frying an egg. The proteins have been altered and the egg will never be able to reach it´s original state!

  21. Thanks Rutger, this is really hot stuff!! Played with it yesterday and i love it even more.. If there is room for 'tooltips' in the ensemble page (like in the patch-pages) it would be of a lot of help for me :) i allways forget the function of the ensemble flags.
  22. Aah, thanks :) i just misunderstood then
  23. Hmm, my LCD works fine but i have no resistor on D3?? I just cut the wires for D0, D1 D2 and D3 ..... is the resistor needed ??
  24. Yeah man, it's a compliment :) Stupid of me i didn't see the typo myself... thanks for the link!
  25. Wow.... that looks really sexy!!!
