  1. Hiya,

You are not that far away from me in Chesterfield......small world huh?

Are you building anything or are you just getting the drift of things for now?

    cheers

    Paul

  2. Hiya, Well I got mios uploaded okay it turns out the new usb hub I am using had some kind of driver issue which just resolved itself somehow. I ended up giving mios studio another try after the usb hub updated it's own drivers and everything went okay from there. Sparx, appreciate the helping hand mate....I can't explain why I am so happy staring at a blue lcd with the word 'ready' on it...lol. cheers Paul
  3. Hiya, I will try and explain where I'm at first. Built my first ever project (core v3) I downloaded mios studio and java as instructed (to my pc) Mios studio will not communicate with my 'no name' midi to usb cable but midiox will. As stated in the documentation my core is searching every two seconds. I read that I could work around the non working mios studio issue by converting the hex file using a combination of perl and midiox. I installed perl and have been trying to convert the file but I am stuck (through lack of familiarity with perl/programming) I can get to here but I don't understand what I need to do from here on,could someone please guide me through it? many thanks Paul
  4. Hiya, Thanks for your input guys,I can see problems with a chair for sure but with the sensors and electronics/software combinations available I am sure something safe could be developed (just thinking out loud here btw). A guy that has had to rely on being pushed and carried everywhere would just be happy (ecstatic maybe?) at just being able to move around a level plot (parking lot/shopping mall etc). The other thing I was thinking of was the control of prosthetic limbs (my dad just lost half his leg to gangrene/bad circulation and the other leg isn't looking so great)....I have seen 'bionic' hand arms and legs on the web but the prices are very prohibitive at the moment. Keep the ideas coming guys....their is something here that could help a lot of folks out. Musically....wow!!!!! the possibilities are astounding. cheers Paul
  5. Hiya, Does anyone know what components would be needed to make one of these? The obvious start is a pair of scrap headphones for the headband and well....it's a start. My friends son has celebral palsy and is wheelchair bound.........can you imagine what something like this controlling a wheelchair (or whatever) would do for someone in that position? I know it's not a midi project as such but the possibilities are enormous.....I think. http://www.emotiv.com/apps/epoc/297/ cheers Paul
  6. Hiya, Cheers Wilba for your in depth explanation, personally I am going to give them a miss now I have read your reply. cheers Paul
  7. In reply to sparx....it was an opl3 pcb....I have already ordered one from mikes though. Cheers Paul
  8. Hiya, Thanks Sparx and Nils cheers Paul
  9. I totally agree with what you are saying about quality and prices,I have been ordering from Mikes myself and have no complaints but I just screwed a board up and the postage is more than the board itself........so I just thought if the boards could be sourced in the UK it would be lower postage costs leaving more cash for parts........which has to be a good thing.........I think Cheers Paul
  10. hiya, Does anyone based in the UK offer pcb's etc? Postage costs are killing me from abroad. cheers Paul
  11. Hiya, I just found this listing on ebay ....I am nothing to do with the seller and therefore can not verify anything about the sids.......I just know a lot of folks are after them for sammichs and sid machines. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...d1#ht_500wt_956 cheers Paul
  12. Hiya, I am building my first project and don't really have much confidence,so I rely heavily on a mixture of schematics and pictures plus documentation. I do try my best to get by without bugging anyone (too much ..lol). I could do with a better picture than the one I posted here showing the connections of the jack plugs out. If anyone has one or can take one and put it up here for me that would be most appreciated. many thanks Paul
  13. The resistor in question was gold banded which I believe is 5%,anyhow I came down on the side of caution and went to maplins for a new 1k resistor......cost me more in petrol than it did for the part.....sign of the times I suppose. Anyhow thanks for chipping in guys, appreciate the help in here. Paul
  14. Hiya, I just received my kits for the mbfm but in the core kit I have 2 x 1.2k resistors and 2x 1k resistors when both parts lists I have looked at state 3 x 1.2k and 1 x 1k, is this a problem or should I go out to my local store and buy a 1k resistor and throw the extra 1.2k resistor in the parts bin? cheers Paul Edit...found a good tool for noobs like me http://www.the12volt.com/resistors/resistors.asp
  15. Hiya, I had an email today saying the kits would still be provided but without sids, did you get the same email? I have ordered a c64 from ebay and I am also in the process of buying a couple of sids from the fleamarket in the forum.......I hope the kits still are indeed being shipped, mind you I suppose I could always try and source more sids and build an mbsid. cheers Paul
  16. I need two x 6582a sids for my sammich that is on order,I will pay immediately with paypal on confirmation of order. many thanks for looking Paul sids obtained
  17. Thanks for this app,I have been driving it with an old dr rhythm dr5 I recently bought from ebay, making some great sounds. Your work is most appreciated. Paul
  18. At that price I could afford one per day..lol. I just re read the item description and it doesn't show -12v (this is where my noobiness shows) is that a problem? Also if this psu was to be connected up to a board is there a chance of blowing any of the mbhw components? Thanks in advance Paul
  19. I already bought two c64 psu's but stumbled across this on ebay and wondered if it's any use for the projects on ucapps? http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item35a227c78b Mods,if it's no use can you please delete this post so as not to put anyone wrong? Thanks Paul
  20. Thanks for the detailed info frailn,I have ordered the psu from the link (weight 2.4kg!!!!) the postage was nearly as much as the psu. I will be buying the 4 pin connector you mention as well. So my mbfm parts list now looks like this .... Many many thanks Paul
  21. Guys, Thanks for trying to put me straight with this but rest assured I have come down on the side of safety and put the power board in my part box...probably never to be seen again..lol. Okay now for the serious stuff,I am a noob (as I guess you guessed) and have been trawling forum posts and documentation from ucapps, trying to figure it all out myself (which I think is the best way to learn by the way. The thing is this,I am building a minimal mbfm as a way of getting my feet wet as I have a sammich on order and I am also on the seqv4 waiting list (wilbas kit). I cannot get my head around the power supply needed for the mbfm (the +/- 12v) If anyone could tell me what exactly I am looking for I can get my nose back into my maplins catalogue and see if they have anything. To summarise this post, bad bits gone in bad bits box,I need a dummies explanation of what 12v transformer I need. (I followed a link to pollins but I can only order beer and kebabs in german so that was a non starter). All help really appreciated. Paul
  22. Based on your reply I am going to look elsewhere and not use it. Many thanks for your input Paul
  23. I was going to throw this digibox away and decided the case might come in useful fom my mbfm project as well as being a subject for soldering/desoldering practice. This is a shot of the power board These are the leads out from the power board This is the information on the board itself I tested it with the meter and the 12v is shoving out 16.3 volts (can I choke it somehow?) The 5v out is showing 4.87 volts which I suspect may be enough. Long post shortened...is this power board useable for the mbfm box? Cheers Paul O
  24. Thankyou Shuriken, I just wanted to make sure before I ordered parts. Paul
  25. Hiya, I am going to build a mbfm while I wait for seq v4 and sammich kits to be made available, during researching the mbfm parts I came across a slight difference and wondered if it matters or not? In the ucapps list it states 15 x polarised Cap 10µF / 35 Volt In mikes shop list it states 15 x polarised Cap 10µF / 25 Volt So my question is does the voltage matter or is it some kind of error? (opl3 module) many thanks Paul
