taximan replied to Hermes's topic in MIDIbox SID
Me again, I ended up getting one off ebay for £29gbp,the price seemed right enough and I like the looks of the unit, thanks for all the advice though guys. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200564041652&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT cheers Paul -

Mb6582 plus 4 SSM2044 VCFs - use of a passive 4 channel stereo mixer?
taximan replied to Hermes's topic in MIDIbox SID
Me again, Hawkeye,I found this and would value your opinion on it http://www-fa.upc.es/websfa/lab/111/audio/audmixer.txt the reason I fancy this one is that I can follow the diagram easily which is what I need. I will be adding seppomans' ssm 2044 (I built 3) into the equation at a later date and probably the ssm2164 (I built two) but thats down the road a while. I thought about building one for the mbfm and one for the sid,any opinion on this? Thanks in advance Paul -
That is one nice build....congratz. Paul

Mb6582 plus 4 SSM2044 VCFs - use of a passive 4 channel stereo mixer?
taximan replied to Hermes's topic in MIDIbox SID
Hello Hawkeye, I like building stuff up and would like to build the device you mention for my mb6582 based sid (wilba's boards with 4x8580 and 4x6581 with shitty home made enclosure).......problem is I can't visualise circuits very well and need schems n pics. Any chance of helping a silly old bugger out? cheers Paul -
Only an opinion but I actually think the cheaper 9090 panels look best,at the moment I am waiting delivery of the pcb's (july13-15th all being well). As for the klee I am not settled on the layout yet and still have a lot of stuff to finish before I am actually ready for a panel but I will be in touch. edit........are the first two panels in the sequence above (9090) on the timber work bronze? cheers Paul

Hiya, I just ordered the 909 boards from Trevor's ebay page and would like to ask,is it a big/complicated job to get the mb808 sequencer working with it? thanks in advance, Paul

Thanks Nebula, When you say the uncoated ceramics are a bit fragile do you mean in the physical sense,as in 'they break easily' or do you mean electronically as in 'they don't suffer over voltage etc?' cheers Paul
-
Thanks for the answers guys but I don't think I explained clearly enough,I was comparing ceramic disk http://www.rapidonline.com/sku/Electronic-Components/Capacitors/Ceramic/Ceramic-disc-capacitors/62494/08-0050 to multilayer ceramics http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Capacitors/Ceramic/Radial-multilayer-ceramic-capacitors/62498 The reason I ask is that most of the online stores I use for bits and pieces don't stock the multilayer type whereas the ceramic disk type are readily available. cheers Paul

Hiya, In a lot of build pictures I see people using what I can only describe as a shiny cermic blob type capacitor,my question is can a normal ceramic disk type capacitor be used instead? tia Paul

I don't know but let me know when you find out

Hiya Flemming, I know the boards are angled but I think I may be able to get around it okay,I'll solder it up when the bits arrive and post a picture (if it works that is). cheers Paul

Thanks Sparx, This wasn't the problem mate but thanks for trying, btw the led's I am using don't have a flat on them so it may look on the photo as if the led's are the wrong way round. After going bozz eyed for a couple of hours last night following tracks around the board it turns out that some connections between the cs and baseboard are the problem,I have ordered some extended headers and sockets so I can connect them 'sammich' style. I had originally used ribbon cable but I saw the joints as weak,so I then hot glued over the joints to strengthen them. I then desoldered the ribbon cables and make some 'sammich' like connections using some ic sockets I cut up.......I don't know why but I just don't like using the ribbon cable. Here lies the fault.........residue from the hot glue on the solder pads that was invisible blocking current.............live and learn huh? cheers Paul

Hiya, Eveything works on my cs except some leds. I enclose a picture of my control surface with black arrows showing the leds that won't light up. I have tried replacing the leds...not them I have swopped all the chips around on the baseboard (just to see if the fault moved, which it didn't.) So does anyone know if these leds have a circuit in common with each other? any help or suggestions appreciated. many thanks

What he says too ......I knew nothing about electronics when I started here but it sorta grabs you by the nutz. edit.....I still know nothing about electronics (just thought I would beat Nils to the punch)

Ponoko front panel for Wilba's control surface pcb
taximan replied to findbuddha's topic in MIDIbox BLM
Hiya, Could anyone please tell me if the centers of the buttons have been decided upon yet? I have just received some bits and pieces to start fiddling around with a cs,if I have this right the cs needs to be 17 x 17 buttons, but I would like the buttons to match any pcb's that might be made available. cheers Paul -
Wicked stuff.....got a smile outta me mate. cheers Paul
