Yes the word ass is really beautyfull isn't it.

Back to the beast...

Iv'e been sitting just playing around with the shebeast,

and I get filter response, but no way as near as in the sound example at this page:

http://www.ucapps.de/midibox_sid_manual_l.html

Under the section "FILter menu".

What type of SID was is being used in the sound example.

Cuz that sound example is extremely fat!

My 6581 SID(s) sounds like this (resonace maxed out, tweaking cutoff):

Clip5

Iv'e tried two 6581 SID's and they both have these "tiny" filter responses.

Though the 6581 im using now has a much higher audio output.

I nearly blew my speakers!

For those who have more SID experience.

Are my filters shot, or does the 8580/6582 have better filters?

8580/6582 have a lot more "pronounced" filters.  they are complete.  the 6581 was pre-maturely released, meaning it was incomplete... the 8580 was the upgraded, completed chip and the 6581 was the redheaded stepchild.  i personally love the 6581 but then again, i only play electro rock and not techno.

I see.

Well i do love the 6581's too.

But when performing live, i need more puch in the filters.

Im gonna try installing 8580's and see what happens.

Either way, this is the first MbSID iv'e built.

And even if the 8580's have more puch in the filter,

this one is going to stay 6581.

The next one i build will have a wooden box,

6582's and a full controll surface.

<edit>

even if the filters sound a bit "tiny"..damn i love the sound of the beast.

She's just perfect.  ;D

Gotta go assemble the case now.

I should have been more carefull.

I coloured the case using a spraycan.

It turned out well, though i forgot about the clear coating.....

The case gets kinda sticky when it's hot indors...like today..

Dust and other stuffies attaches itself to my precious case...not very smart.

Iv'e also managed to scrath the case..but i wont show that :P

Bottom right picture, one can see how badly i cut the panel for theLCD'n.

Not very nice.

I've exchanged the original red LED with an amber LED.

Goes together well with the silver knob. :)

Despite all the mistakes im satisfied.

It both sounds and looks raw.

There is two 6581's in my shebeast.

I recorded some sounds yesterday...but it was boring.

So i sat down yesterday and produced this little thing.

Israeli Psychedelic Trance inna Astral Projection style.

Been a few years since i used to produce stuff like this,

but it turned out pretty well.

Name of the song is "Mosquitos" and it is aprox 7 min long.

The Mp3 file is at 128Kbps and it is about 6,6 Mb large.

It might be a bit bassy..

Sounds in the song comes from my SID and moog emulators from Scope Fusion Platform (SFP).

Drms from SFP to.

Voice synthesis from Analog X say it.

And the song is right here:

Foona - Mosquitos

Thanx everyone for helping me accomplish this!

And how the hell did i leave the last 7 pages of this thread slip past me in the last few months?

Only spotted it was finished with the rss feed today!

Thanx guys!

But it would have been really hard without the support from this forum.

I bet you allready figured out im having fun, filling those banksticks with presets.

I'ts like i have too much memory.....

And still it would be cool to double the ammount of banksticks  :P

Smithy:

Yes those poo coloured ones, as you put it  so nicely are not very attractive.

I found these green ones at a electronics shop in neighbouring town here in Sweden.

They have em at three sizes and they don't cost too much.

Easy to solder and cut, and also...they are [glow=green,2,300]green[/glow] :)

<edit>

Cr*p!

Im out of 6581's and thats a real pain in the bonker.

One of my SID has a dead bass engine. All i get from it is highpitch noise.

I did have one more chip. Bass engine worked, but audio output level is to low.

I had to use almost 70 dB's of amplification to hear it haha.

But the darn thing works and thats gotta count for something  ;D
