  1. I have to agree with mickey. Although when SMD is phased out, I am going to have to quit ;D I hate BGA packages I doubt that soldering short issues will decrease with premade boards using BGA or SMA packages. I work for a major electronics manufacturer and using smaller parts only makes it harder to find the shorts themselves, especially under BGAs. You wouldn't believe how many times they have to be reflowed! The community will probably find themselves filling out RMA forms for sending their premade boards back more than actually getting to work with them. TK, does have an interesting word on how the support effort would change though. I also agree that too many rules makes everything too complicated. TK Quote "Today we've reached a status where the majority of people prefer to buy premade PCBs, they buy premade panels, they buy premade housings". I think we will know when things have shifted in the wrong direction, as every MIDIBOX of the Week will be the same ;D

I didn't expect to get much applause for meshuggah, I still don't agree that they aren't skilled enough. It's alot easier to setup machines to play different time signatures, than to play an instrument live and keep the time. But hey! They are a prime example of what is being sought after, (multiple time signatures) and that was my main point. I do have to say they are definitely an acquired taste.
  5. Under the MB hardware Platform/LCD module you should find some info regarding compatible LCD's for the projects, I myself have been wanting to use some huge LCDs, but the controllers need to have drivers written, or the access time is too slow for any realtime usage. Basically if it uses one of the compatible controllers such as the hd### listed on the lcd modules page, you should be able to use it. I haven't seen any 50+ characters, however you can use multiple LCD's like (2) 2x40 etc.... Hope this helps some.

Yeah it seems it is possible to do what you want. Especially if it states that "every track" 1-16 in length. Sounds to me like you could set one at 12 and another for a different length. I was wanting to ask that question myself. I understand what your are trying to achieve, you want to make the sound like you said "evolve" so that every bar etc.. . is different until the two tracks add up and start the process over again. That method always reminds me of Meshuggah, they all play in different time signatures, sounds real crazy, then after a certain time they all the sudden seem to sync right back up.
  7. Sorry to hear about your monitor, I've had some recent problems with mine also. Seems my 1/4/xlr neutrix combo, seems to lack the 1/4", and I am reduced to hooking up the stereo mains from my mixer instead of the monitoring section. Every time I want to record hot, I find myself having to turn off my monitors. What type of monitors do you use/prefer? I have been using my event 20/20's for about 8 years , and I believe Its about time to do some comparison :) I have thought about suggesting adding a gear/software review section, maybe even start a post to in the forum/.org. I trust others opinions in the ucapps community more than reading magazine reviews, I have yet to purchase something based on a mag review. So far it's working well:) Well I hope your monitor comes back soon- Later
  8. Arumblack, that somewhat reminds me of a controller I saw a long time ago. It was a multibutton controller, that fits around the back of a guitar/bass neck. it had buttons you could push with your thumb while your were playing your guitar. I always wanted to try one out... Would have been great for chords, and pads to layer out your sound.
  9. I'm glad you like it, I lost all interest in other plugins when I started using Ozone. Sorry I didn't point out the cpu load, I am running dual xeon 3.06's and have forgot about cpu loads. Now I'm just trying to balance bills ;) Still--- processing each section seperately (Batch like in wavelab) and then doing the same for succesive touch ups can be do-able for others using slower cpus. Although running realtime on multitracks makes izotope hands down the s*it Pay C------What do you think about the spacial section? I about crapped my pants when I heard the difference it has on the stereo field. I would love to try a mixdown with it in 6.1. -Sephult

Hello I know there are severaly play modes such as Forward, Reverse, and Ping-Pong. As for the 12 step, I am unsure, but I believe you could program some things to allow you to. There are clock dividers however.... If you have any questions just ask, I myself will probably be venturing a new Seq soon, maybe I can help make that 12 step possible. Well brain needs coffee, morning coffee .............zzzz later -Sephult
  11. It is possible to do what you are stating, but yes some MIOS program is most likely needed. I have not tested out the support for more than 1 module yet, since I am still developing my ideas. My own personal midibox is an orignal MBplus :) Still rockin' though. And my only other MIOS controlled box was for a 8 button controlled forklift :) Still holding out for the motherload Design! I myself have not yet looked at the switching matrix concept, along with the fact that the .pdf link and forum are acting strange right now. I guess the server is being serviced. However I am interested. Well I will see if I can find any more info that could help you and I'll post in a day or so. -S

    Ebay fun

HAHAHAHA! Why didn't I think of that, I would pay a fortune for a vintage air guitar ;)

  14. Great suggestion Moebius, A friend of mine is into survelliance equipment, and I suggested he do the same on a VCR for taking monitoring footage when a sensor is triggered. Still in the planning works though. I thought it would be kewl to design a CD audio clock to midi bpm for syncing MIDI to CD's, I noticed roland's dj2000 mixer has it, and was wondering if anyone has tried it out? Or anything similar along the line? Would make a kewl MIDI-Toy of the week. ;D
  15. Hello, I am sorry I do not have time to review your entire message, as I am on a lunch break. But--- The DIN board runs with 4 IC's to run 16 encoders. Using two din boards with 8 IC's give your 32 encoders. MB64 supports 2 DINS with 8 IC's at a max of 32 encoders and no buttons. But the MIDIO128 project will support 4 DINS. Hope that helps. I will try to look over the rest later. -Sephult
  16. I think that this community is well handled to protect itself. I have been wondering if Thorsten has been thinking the same, as I have not seen a post yet from him regarding this subject. I am also pleased that he hasn't had to take personal measures, (which wastes his time). I am not worried about the security of our community at all, and I believe this issue was handled correctly. I am also proud that I belong to community that can handle it's own issues rather than pawning them on the creator. I also feel strongly that the only other reply we can give to this topic (regarding copyright, and what is right/wrong) is............ DIY
  17. Sorry I had no luck either, I will keep an eye out though.
  18. I agree about the exciter, I used to steer away from them, but trust me Izotope has some nice features. The harmonic exciter has mix levels for each band, contains either 4-5 bands which is just a line superimposed over your input that you can adjust to frequency. You can make it however subtle you need to. When you put a subtle exciter and a tiny amount of reverb on the higher portion of your mix, and add a little boost with some compression and the maximizer it comes out really crisp. The midrange on the exciter adds some nice qualities too and would probably make heavy guitar tracks crunch. Although I haven't tried it myself yet. The stereo imager is the best I have used yet, It allows you to select your imaging by band, and allows you to widen and delay each band either to the left or right. Would be great for filling out the stereo mix for drums. I believe the website has screenshots and a bunch of info. I would have to say that this is the only plugin that has ever really been useful to me. I would highly recommend it even if you were to steer away from the exciter, the rest of the plugin lineup is really top-notch and again the UI is the best I have seen.
  19. I agree with moebius, as sonar and cubase should be way overkill for just using it in this project. I will see if I can find anything else to suggest also in the next day or so.
  20. The difference between m64 and m64e is the handling for encoders. You seem to be going in the right direction, but you forgot your core pcb :) Look under the MB hardware platform link on the sidebar, it should give you info for all your LCD needs. I guess the non/detent encoders is a choice. Using detented you can select individual steps easier, and well you can figure the rest. If you browse through the forum, you might run into some methods for making labels for the panel layouts. I have seen several different ways, like transparent prinouts etc.... You might want to email someone who already has one done, they might be able to divulge some secrets to you. Well I hope this helped... If you have any more questions I'll try to help :D
  21. I have only purchased with CC. Don't get so upset, everyone around here is willing to help. I bet Smash himself would be the best to contact and more than willing to help. If you check the members list on page 6 his email is listed. Or you can just let me search it for you. (mailto: ucapps@coinoptech.com) I know your frustration with CCs, I know lots of people with the same problems when it comes to corporate webbuys. .....But, hey Smash is not a corporate profiteer, and I know if you ask nicely he should give you some answers. ;D
  22. I usually check with with allelectronics.com I am not for sure if this is prepped with the proper controller, although it does show the proper pinouts. Maybe someone in the forum can help verify this. Here is the link http://www.allelectronics.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=365&item=LCD-105&type=store For $6.50 I doubt you will find anything better or cheaper. I do agree with the others that it is alot easier to debug and have a "monitor" for use with your box. But hey its not required.

  24. I would have to say Izotope Ozone is hands down the best plugin I have ever used. It is basically a mastering DX plugin that contains Graphic EQ Multiband compressor/limiter/expander A nice band selectable reverb (Adds some crisp high end) A multiband harmonic exciter (Also really nice for high end) Stereo Imaging (Band selectable with phase scope) Loudness maximizer The interface is awesome, it reminds me of the the interface used in the playstation game Syphon Filter. The stereo imaging and harmonic exciter are awesome, especially when trying to get that extra high end to come out. The reverb also gives the mix some sparkle on the high end when the band is selected right. I would recommend it to all
  25. Sounds like a fun project! I myself built a senior project involving the sequencing of a midi controlled forklift. I am unsure of what your rig is, but I can tell you that it shouldn't be impossible :) I basically used a dynapad t200 touchpad with the first version of cubase to loop a sequence. It was soo simple, each note corresponded to a seperate DOUT to switch over relays for the power to the actuators and motors. I would say just to use a basic audio/midi program like sonar, and track your audio clips corresponding to the midi sequence for your actions. I personally have not used jazz++, but I believe you could use any type of stable audio/midi sequencer that responds to transport controls. You would probably just need to set the sensor as a transport control (Play) for playing the sequence, and some kind of message at the end to set the cursor back. If I remember correctly, I believe sonar comes default so when playback is stopped and another play command is sent, that it starts from the beginning. When you get your show up and running you should upload some pictures/video. I lost my old videos for my project, and there hasn't been any documentation of any animatronics/robot control. I know the community would be pleased to see to your efforts. --Well good luck
