Whoops I mis-spoke, I meant the chips will have the new bootloader only. Reason: If a builder can't get MIOS loaded, not too likely to get an app loaded either etc.... Best to get the MIDI ports to a known-working state early on, MIOS pre-loaded would make that process harder. ;) Best! Smash

Sorry about the confusion, The Eagle3d libraries don't have a model (yet!) for the caps I prefer in the kits, I'm planning on a "what's in the kit" type page soon with photos....Still looking for a decent digicam for macro shots. (any suggestions?) :) Best Smash

Cool! Now that Sasa knows, Stryd please edit the code out of your post, so we don't make it so easy for the next round of eBay boys to wipe out the copyright notice. Even though it's not hard, Let's make them work for it. :) Best Smash

Whoop now understood.... ;) I'm wondering if a cool junkbox animated screensaver is needed, using the LCD design tool from Captain Hastings (was it CH?).... At the very least an animated splashscreen like Stryd_one is suggesting. :) Best Smash

<opinion> Adding whatever text you want to the display in your own app is fine, altering any copyright notice is not. There is a reason that making a change like this is not so easy. If you respect the efforts here at all, changing the copyright notice in any way should be against your religion.... ;) </opinion> If the word "junkbox" is that important, have your -app- display it proudly while running, but let's not float any instructions on copyright notice modification to anyone, for any reason. That's the stuff the non-coding eBay boys would love. Just because it can be done is no good reason, and a verbatim read of the GPL prohibits copyright mod and ends any rights given for use by the GPL. Hell I'll give you a second display for your box to show whatever you like if we could just drop this now. ;D Not intending to flame or start any shouting, just calling it like I (and only I) see it. Easy latency measure: Sample a click noise (anything with fast attack) and wire to the loudest tact switch you can find for the trigger.....then record both the tact switch press and the sampler output click into any audio ware that shows the waveform, then measure the time between clicks on the waveform view. I'm pretty sure they do, was just trying to give more choices for a quick build... The original SIL pinheader pads/holes are there too though, and will be forever. ;) What I really want is pads for common 1/4" jacks there also, but it just did not fit without massive moves. (takes up half the PCB!)

Almost back to the topic....I am not able to find phono/rca jacks to fit this SID rev, so next run will have several different footprints for various rca jacks. I used the one I -thought- was right from the eagle lib, I should have known better. :-\ Best Smash

Wow I did not realize you are in TX! Anywhere near Dallas? I still live in Oklahoma but these days I'm in DFW twice a week. The offer is much appreciated, but at least let me trade or pay for the shipping etc. Wanna come see a show? :) Best Smash

Actually these are full-blown rock show style production, minus big lighting (daytime+outdoors) I'm a partner in a production co. in Dallas, and while we specialize in video production (http://www.avicreative.com) we also have a sound system and moving lights. We call that "division" AVI Showtech, and we started it mostly to go do shows and have fun with the gear......Now it's more like work with these last minute shows (did not have time to find loaders for the first show, 2.5 tons + for just the mains and I'm still recovering several days later!) But the money is decent (already spent on more PA gear), the shows are fun, and I can't put into words how good it feels to have 20k+ clean watts on the gas pedal (main fader).....ya just don't get that on the club gigs... ;D The coinop stuff (arcade and pinball) almost seems like a past life these days, still have a garage full of games for when the stress level peaks....Naturally one of those is an original Williams SmashTV upright. ;) Best Smash

Yes there is a difference, and I always need both types. How many do you have and what would you trade for them? ;) Best Smash

Thanks M! The new DIN kits have SIP resistor packs in them, and the new DOUT kits have DIP resistor packs instead of discrete resistors. Also, the new CORE kits have two PCB mount MIDI jacks in them, so no need to buy MIDI jacks unless you need some panel mount types. BTW thanks for all of the kind words, you guys are the coolest, and I'm proud to be a part of this community! I did not take offense at anything said, most know I would speak up in a millisecond if I did.... ;D And yes the CNC router(s) are mostly collecting dust. Last time used was to drill+route a SID proto, months ago: [img width=460 height=420]http://www.avishowtech.com/temp/P1010121b.jpg Its simply a case of not even having the time to start anything new like that, much less the hours of "operator time" that it would take. A future situation -might- allow me to hire a freind to babysit/load stock on the NC to eliminate this $$$ shafer madness. (they do great work, but stock designs could be done sooo much cheaper) Off to the post office! Smash

Hey All! My store is open once again, at this point there are two backorders pending (both need changes due to the revisions). I'm about to head for the post office to send out this stack before me. :) Please note that I'll be completely tied up for the next two weeks with the unexpected last minute bookings, but I'll do my best to fill a few here and there during that time. While the shows only take two days of setup/show/teardown each, I'm trying my best to juggle the travel time and tiredness with normal family life and some attention to the store......so please forgive me if I use the stated "4-6 weeks" from my order form to get your order to you. :-\ I fully expect things to slow down a bit now that we have two of the shows behind us, I guess I'll know on Saturday.... ;) Again sorry for the insane wait times, I really did not expect these rather large budget shows to pop up last minute.....I wanted to do some shows this summer but was not expecting a few big ones per week! ;) I'll link a couple of short video clips soon to show what I'm up to if anyone is interested. Any questions about the boards, kits, etc? Postal run, sleep, spend the day with my son, then off to Dallas again for the weekend shows.....too bad I'm still sore from the last ones! :P Thanks again for your patience, kind words, and death threats. All are appreciated! Best Regards SmashTV

No. That's not acceptable. If you have questions ask them. We get cranky from answering the same questions over and over, and some of us happen to know where the answers are in all this documentation, but that is what this forum is for: To answer questions, even if the answer is "look here in the docs". He's just trying to spur you into diving into the docs, to better your understanding of the project. ;D We all forget how much all of this makes a head spin at first look. ;) Best Smash

Oh no no no! I'm on my smoke break.... Damn boss (me) is a slave driver! I don't want you to stop posting......Let people get annoyed or whatever....we'll move things around as needed. If they get tweeked about a crosspost etc. just let me know and I'll fix it up. Best Smash

Don't mind me, just sweeping up...... ;) Please don't get the wrong idea here, I'm not picking on ya or following you around, just trying to keep things neat and tidy. Back to the kit mill..... Smash

Here ya go, new thread! ;) Very interesting thread hijack BTW..... ;D Best Smash -
I just merged two of the LCD issues threads here, since you guys are both fighting these displays........ One of you has a working pinout, one of you needs a pinout, etc..... Time to trade notes! ;D Smash

I'm still slowly chipping away at the backorders, I have a stack here ready to go out tomorrow and I'll be packing a few more before my head hits the pillow tonight. I did change my core doc page to reflect the corrected board, and get the store page itself ready to re-open (added a couple of things for the new layouts like 10p ribbon cable).....had 3 hours of travel time to get all that solid today, and I never want to edit html on my palm pilot again..... :) Best answer I can give is ASAP, and clearing all orders/re-opening store is dangerously high on my list right now, considering I have $12,000 worth of last-minute-booking shows to do this weekend.... Crazy how everything hits at once. Very soon or die trying is my plan, I wish I had a better answer.... :-\ Best Smash

There is a thread in a car-mp3 forum with a non-standard pinout that looks promising: http://www.mp3car.biz/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=169814 No idea if that will work or burst into flames.......Also know I found a thread in a different forum (in spanish!) that -looks like- one guy is telling another that he needs an inverter.....so yours might be an extended temp range model....complete explanation on extemp LCDs is in the wiki. BTW you can find 4x40, 4x20, and 4x16 displays from various different manufacturers.....with this same part number......making a datasheet search more like a waste of time. There are thousands of companies in China making character LCDs, cloning each other's designs furiously. Best Smash

close....except the pic is telling the 4051s which input to let through via the ABC lines, scanning through them as fast as possible (almost as fast as a DIN scans buttons, but slow enough to allow for needed settle time).....The 4051 datasheet has a table showing ABC state vs. selected input....(sorry no link, i'm on site with me Palm) ;) The ABC lines will be switching way too fast to read without a strip-chart style logic analyzer........but.......You can set the ABC lines manually for some low speed testing, just tie the lines hi/lo as shown in the chart, and the ain should switch inputs as expected. (obviously with ABC lose from the pic, in case it is sending something unexpected on ABC) Luck be with ye! Smash

110% agreed on this.....you guys have the ability to inspire so many by showing off some real world control. You balance things out here in a big way by doing something thats not a "synth thing"...... ;) I'm always having to try to explain to people in person what I do, so I start by handing them a core board, then I fire up the palm to show pictures...... Keep in mind I live in redneck hell, so it goes something like this: "studio controllers" while showing off the big guns from the gallery....blank confused stare.... "old school synths" while showing off the quadsid and playing a sample mp3.....again blank confused stare.... "pipe organs" with more pics on the palm.....the "idea bulb" pops up over their head, and something like "oh wow" comes out of their mouth. :) Best Smash

wow the blood/coffee level was way wrong when i said Since there is no bus clock there in your app, that's a bad answer! ;) The A,B,& C lines from the core tell all 4051s what input pin to read, and each 4051's output line has its own wire to the core....So if the core wants to read pot 1, it sends a 3 bit word (via ABC lines) telling -all- 4051s to route input 1 to output, then listens on core J5:A0 for the value to read.... My gut still applies though considering that the ABC lines are used by some non-ain apps for din/dout bus......;) So since its only reading the same pot(s).....follow the ABC lines to make sure they are wired right, all the way up to the pic pins. Also be sure your app is expecting an ain and not unmuxed pots, that -might- cause same symptoms. On the static thing: 1. I hear ya brother! I can always tell when i'm extra charged by the friz level of me mop..... ;) 2. The odds that this is a static death are very low, considering all the 4051s are acting the same. Best Smash
