Troubleshooting my Core MIDI interface
nILS replied to banjobater's topic in Testing/Troubleshooting
Diode polarity: You can test that with a multimeter. For instance by measuring resistance with a multimeter - should be 0 in one direction and infinity in the other direction. See: http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_3/chpt_3/2.html The MIDIOut (upload requests) does not go through the opto so a broken opto should still give you upload requests. "Ready." on the LCD means that MIOS is on the PIC. That's good :-) But now I'm wondering, since you said you got the PIC with only the bootstrap loader on it: How did the MIOS get on there? -
I ain't scared of DEsoldering the OPLs =)

Yes it is. 2 x 8 = 16. On your LCD pins there's going to be a mark of some sort indicating pin 1. The rest is just counting.

Any interest in a standard PCB layout for the frontpanel components?
nILS replied to sonicwarrior's topic in MIDIbox SEQ
RIIIICOOOOOLAAAAAAAAAAAAA! -
@Sasha: Hehe, actually the layout is rather old. So it's not really inspired by Wilba's new FM layout and Wilba is not responsible for it either :D @Brother303: Actually, the buttons on the bottom were just meant to be a tiny keyboard to allow for testing patches and the likes ;-)

Seeing this reminds me of my fiddling around with it a while ago. The second one was just a test to see how to fit the DINs and DOUTs on the front panel PCB.
-
Really nice looking! Good job!
-
Yep, once the design is verified I'll most likely post the .brd file. This may take a bit, as I said, but it will happen :D
-
Yogi: Way cool ;D You'll be one of the first (or the first if you beat me to it) to build the mbPokey board. I'll post the source for the pokey app soon (it's compiling and looks correct BUT it's not been tested yet obviously). Just in case someone's wondering - I'm rather busy with exams at the moment, but I'll be back to working on the Pokey after Christmas :D

Need Updated PCB Layouts (CORE_R4, AIN_R4 ...)
nILS replied to yankohurta's topic in MIDIbox Documentation Project
Communication with Smash is usually pretty easy - your eMails might just have been sucked up by a spam filter - you might wanna join the chat some time as Smash is there a lot :D -
Crypto - sounds reasonable and should work ;-)

Majjam, don't rush it - you're doing a great job!

Most of the "car burial grounds" I got parts for my car from charged by the kilogramm for electronics and other small stuff and by randomness for hoods, doors and the likes. The paying by kg part was always fun and pretty cheap though.

Wie jetzt Controller oder SID Synth? Weißt Du denn eigentlich, was Du genau willst?! ::)
-
lol (DIY = Do It Yourself) != (Do It Fast || Do It Cheap) Aha. An welchen "Controller" hast Du denn da gedacht?

Alle Fragen, die Du hier bisher gestellt hast (Preis, Step-By-Step) sind schon beantwortet worden. Sogar schon lange bevor Du hier warst. 4) So. Jetzt hast Du einen Überblick und bestimmt viele gezielte, genauere Fragen. Schieß los.

Power: Ummm, since you're not using any audio stuff you could just take the 5V from an USB or PS/2 port of the laptop ;-) DIN module: Since you're not connecting any further boards to the Core you might even get away without one. After all, not connecting any other boards leaves a lot of pins on the pic empty. Get one though - it's a pretty cheap item and will keep development simple. Getting the kits - which is a good way to start and an easy one, too - will limit the size though. The core board is 3.1x2.35 inches iirc.

Welcome aboard, Jero :) Place to start: Read up on ucapps.de You dimension idea: Yes, this is possible. It'll take some fiddling and you'll definitely have to etch your own boards (or have the etched) or build the whole thing on a perfboard, but it's definitely possible. Cheerio, nILS

The transistor will be left out for now (in my test setups) as the Pokey is virtually indestructable according to the information available to me at this point. It will most likely be in the final version though. Just a small update on the status of the project: I finally got all the parts needed and will get started on the mbPokey board as soon as I find the time, which will most likely be the beginning of next week.

Ich wage noch eine Spekulation: Es war nicht das dritte DINx gemeint sondern DOUT. Na gut, war ja nur eine Spekulation. ;)

Yeah, let's *not* carry a box that has lots of electronics in it and a reddish display on it around. "OMG! Which wire to cut - there are too many!" :D
