  1. Serato Scratch Live does sth similar ;)
  2. Yeah, it's just easier to say "The way it's set up now" than "the way it's planned to be and will hopefully be set up after you helped me with the programming after I miserably failed at it" ;-)
  3. * Ensemble/Bank buttons removed * Added secondary function to the menu/up/down buttons to go to selection mode for patches, ensembles and banksticks. * Added Arpeggiator/Sequencer "Start/Stop" button (position temporary) Some more visuals:
  4. Ja, doch, denke schon. Das Wissen kannst Du dann auch mal gleich in die 1,8m DIN/DOUT Kette beim sidLive einbringen ;D
  5. I don't have any experience with thicknesses above 3.5mm or below 1.0mm. But within that range bending it parallel to the grain more than 45° degrees usually leads to complications. It's not a porblem of the aluminum being brushed though - the grain comes from the rolling (is this the correct english term?) of the material.
  6. Looks nice so far, but I'm not quite sure how you're planning to put the hole thing together yet. From my experience as a "metal bender" for a certain german sports-car-manufacturer something's telling me you'll get in trouble bending 3 sides of a sheet of metal into the same direction 90°. Besides, the edge on backside will be "open", as you only have flanges for the front top and bottom sides. What material are you planning to use? If you're using Aluminum, keep in mind that is has a "grain": Bending it parallel to the grain usually tears it even if you heat it up before bending, so you might want to cut the pieces accordingly.
  7. Yes it would, they way it is set up it now. Again, the way it's set up now is not the way TK suggested. Exactly - that's why we're still looking into different configurations as we're not completely happy with either one of the ideas yet ;-)
  8. No, I don't. Adding the functionality to the buttons was just an easy way to have a have way of "fine tuning" rather than having to use an encoder. Adding your idea to the buttons is still possible - but thinking about it made me realise this would lead to two buttons with 3 different functions (press, shift+press, hold+menu encoder), which is probably not really that good an idea.
  9. Nope, it's one "click" per value.
  10. All I can say is that with detented encoders it's pretty hard to accidentally change values while using the button. Don't know about undetented ones though.
  11. Wilba already brought that up today. ;-) The way it's set up atm is an up down button pair, which flips through ensembles and (with the shift button held down) banksticks. Good point. ...which makes sense and once again moves the envelope buttons to some remote locations :D
  12. Will look into that. That could be fixed with shift making the buttons Ensemble/Bankstick. Single color LEDs. I just used two colors to see, which color will look nicer and actually make sense there. The colors of the LEDs/illumination isn't fully making sense yet. I plan to have the colors hint to the function of the controls, as I did with my SID and IIRC as TK did on his SID panel as well. As of now "select" is green, "modify" is yellow/orangish and "subselect" is red. Kinda. ;D Again, this is just me trying to remember what the last two rows were for ;-)
  13. Once the CS questions are settled, we'll take a deep dive into the vast amount of keyboard options available and come up with something that's easy to source and affordable.
  14. You could get the needed hardware from doepfer for instance. Nice quality but fairly expensive. Or you could buy something like this: Simple Controller-/Masterkeyboards are fairly cheap. Basically, all you'll do is replace the case wit your own case, hook up the MIDI Out of the keyboard and the MIDI In of the new case to a MIDI merger and run that into the core.
  15. Just a quick updated to what's happened there up to the image linked above: * added the matrix (there ya go bugfight and TK) ;-) * added feedback (thx bugfight) * fixed "Banstick" typo (thanks sineSurfer) * got rid of several buttons * added switch to turn on/bypass external filter * encoders are now equidistant and further apart from each other But we moved along a bit further since last night: (bigger version: http://www.schickt.de/temp/iwannahavethat59.png) * moved stuff around * added volume pots for the 4 pairs of SIDs and merged them with the feedback knobs into a "mixer" section To generate more panel space we experimented with a 4 octave version (adding ~15cm to the panel width), but found that this leads to an overall size we thought was too big, besides a lot more space -> a lot more controls => stuff is harder to find ;-) A quick test render can be found here http://schickt.de/temp/iwannahavethat54.png Further ideas, comments, questions?

    panel artwork

You'll have to drill/cut all the holes through the foil though. Which is incredibly annoying and can be pretty hard, when it comes to a lot of small holes like in the mod-matrix.

    panel artwork

I just played around with it a bit using a test version of the sidLive panel: 1) Using one text object for multiple lines of text - removed about 40 objects: saved 5€ 2) Drawing all lines in CadStd (as linked in the other forum) and importing them: saved 25€ 3) Removing the countersink for the 6 screws holding the panel in place (I can do that myself): saved 9€ Result - basically the same Panel cost reduced by almost 40€. That's nice. Also I totally agree on the coloring, on a black anodized panel you don't necessarily have to fill the engravings. Basically you get an inverted "black on aluminium" look that way. Saved another 25€ So with just a little time put into it, I could have saved 65€ on a 120€ panel. That sounds fair, doesn't it?
  18. Side-note: Right-handed people are on the wrong side ;-) Thanks for all the feedback so far. I love the way this turns into a productive discussion, so I'll just point out some general things being talked about here: sineSurfer: the lines feel too thick against the rest of the design The design itself (colors of the LEDs, lines, labels) is not final in any way. It's merely a rough draft to show what the buttons are. sineSurfer: somehow the envelope buttons location feels weird as they are not related visually to anything else around... Yes. They'd have to be in the top-most row to fint in with the layout. But there wasn't any room, so they got shoved down there for now. TK: my first thought: why are the waveform and ring/sync buttons so dominant? A good point. We're a bit torn between really only adding the controls one'll most likely need live and still having a lot of stuff on there that's neat for programming sounds. Atm the tendency is to get rid of some of the stuff though. TK: There is no "Poly" engine, it's called "Multi" engine (as you can play up to 6 instruments) Right, this is a typo/temporary labelling issue. It's fixed in one of the two images already I believe. TK: The modwheel makes "Knob 1" obsolete. Yep -> will be removed TK: CutOff and Resonance knobs are too close together. I find the spacing (which is the same as on my SID) perfect. But, we'll take this into account. TK: The modulation matrix is missing Nope. It's been left out. I personally don't miss it at all ;-) It's being reconsidered though. Bugfight: suggest adding feedback, which rocks. Yes. Definitely. Thanks for the pointer, how'd I miss that? With that in mind - keep going! :D
  19. /me orders 25 Yes, Wilba's board will fit in there and be used leaving us with a *lot* of space for external filters. About the feedback - some more details on that?
  20. ...and you'll have a lot of gray hair. And like me even less than now. ;)
  21. As a couple of you already know, seppoman and I are working on a different take of the incredible v2 capabilities: An 8xSID with a major focus on live playability. The whole thing will look like this rendering: Different angles, bigger pictures: http://schickt.de/temp/iwannahavethat27.png http://schickt.de/temp/iwannahavethat28.png The layout is basically done. Before finalizing it, I thought it would be nice to show it around a bit and possibly collect some useful ideas from you guys. So, any questions, ideas and comments are highly welcome. Cheerio, nILS
  22. Wow 72x2 LC display. Nice :D Sorry that I can't help you finding it though.
  23. Am besten beides ;D
  24. Smash, it seems to me we need to reorganize, structurize, efficierize, productiverize, overall betterize [add more random -izes here] your workflow. I mean, how hard can putting stuff into bags be? Every drug dealer gets that right. What you need is ze german work ethic! Get your lazy imperialistic ass to work! Hope everyone got the irony, I *know* Smash did. Seriously, Smash's doing an incredible job there. Don't bother him, bother me. Write your "when will the parts ship" PMs to be - I'll answer each and every single one, I promise! BTW, Anyone else ever notice that his packages seem to be able to survive a nuclear war unharmed? ;D

    *whack*

Nope, its use got reduced by means of some bullshit language reform. Since "ß" is necessary to distinguish some words they couldn't completely drop it. For instance in a CAD drawing it could say "Masse der Zeichnung entnehmen" (= "take measurements/masses from the drawing") :D Bastards. They're trying to ruin german.
