What exactly is wrong with the panel? It looks pretty good in the pics but then again the pics aren't close up of the entire panel. What's up with that piece of paper that appears to be right above the power supply? Isn't that kind of a fire hazard?

Man, I don't know how I failed to see this thread before! That thing is pretty ingenious. Do you mind me asking about how much it cost you to build? Also, it looks like you have 2 audio cards on it or is that one that you split up? I sure would love to see pics of the inside of it. But lastly, how has it suited your needs?

I recall a few years ago seeing a site with some pictures of some guys, possibly German or Russian, that had completed a DIY sampler. I believe it was 12bit, I vaguely recall the surface. I do think the site had either video or audio clips...I know that's pretty vague and that's pretty much all I remember about it. :P For some reason, I remember the URL being posted here. Attila, the pc is Duron 750mhz, 364 ram, 30gb hd, cd-rom and cd-rw, i forget what the video card is, I believe 64mb something or other. I thought about building a Myth TV system. However, what I've read suggests that the processor may be a little weak if I want to pause live. I do really like the idea of the MP3 jukebox, and the softsynth with the 98lite...I had never considered that!

I've built a new system to replace my old Duron. I've been thinking about what I might be able to do with it since I don't need it anymore. Something music related or otherwise. I don't know but I'm feeling experimental. Suggestions?

This is what I've been doing and, although, there are many things that still confuse me about the project i'm about to undertake (the MB 64), i'm more familiar with what I need to look out for. It's like moving to a new city and getting lost a few times. Soon enough you'll learn your way around but no doubt there'll be places you'll need guidance to get to. :)

I've been at M-Audio's site looking over their Trigger Finger pad controller, which after seeing I'm glad I didn't pick up the MPD 16, anyway I got to wondering...well what sort of innards do these type of controllers have in regards to what makes them work? I mean the MidiBox platform runs MIOS and all that good hardware that Thorsten has developed, so what is different about the platforms that brands like Behringer and Doepfer surface controllers use? Is there some type of MIOS type language that those manufacturer use? Or is it all proprietary type stuff they built from the ground up? I'm really liking what you're doing here with this thread! Excellent documentation for us novices. I have a few questions...one which i know you'd probably get to eventually, but here it is. About those switch boards you made, it looks like they'll be mounted vertically right? (i have a vestax mixer that has pots mounted like this) I know it's possible to use a nut from the top of the panel to hold the pot and board in place if you've left the clearance to do this. Actually I can't tell from the pics if the pots have threads for nuts. On the other hand how do you plan to fasten the board with the switches to the panel? For those I see no nuts which could hold them. And about the Illuminated dial, That looks really cool. Is the plan to use it to scroll from bpm to bpm?

I'm speaking from a dj mixer standpoint here, but the best way I found is to open the fader up and wipe out the build up manually with a soft cloth. I know some people will use tuner control spray (for example Caig Lube or Radio Shacks "Tuner Control spray"), but I find this attracts build up quicker. Although, if you have 12 or more faders then you probably don't want to be desoldering and soldering all those faders so the spray is the way to go. Whatever you do just be sure to lube it up so it glides smoother than new and it's' not a bad idea to lube the faders prior to first use when they're new. Woah, is that a fader that uses a belt system and the led's are beneath that belt? i've never seen anything like it. Where'd you get it and what's the price point?
